  1. Times were different in 2016. Everyone was different and people change. Internet culture was different and not as main stream as it is today. To hold people accountable for the things they did on the internet 5 plus years ago is total cringe.

  2. of course u don’t think that his old content was harmful because your white passing and didn’t have to deal with the racism that was sparked from that kind of content:/

  3. Ian's use of slurs was a huge part of why I came to normalize casually racist meme culture around 2016 and for the next few years afterward. He, Joji, and Max reinforced the logic that using slurs shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary, and even though I never felt comfortable saying them myself, it made me feel like it was perfectly normal for my friends to spew ironic hate speech (although now I realize that it wasn't so ironic for a lot of them.) All of this, of course, helped push me into aligning with a lot of alt-right positions that set me back so far back in my social development that I've had to spend years unlearning that garbage, and there's still more more work to do. More importantly, though, Ian's rhetoric enabled his fanbase to create a nightmare scenario for black and queer people who were in middle and high school during those years. Many of his former fans still live with the "all of it's okay or none of it's okay" mentality, and it continues to harm the marginalized people in their lives.

His old Content Cops may have good critiques on Leafy, Keemstar, RiceGum, etc., but the slurs completely undermine any value the videos would have otherwise, and thus they needed to be taken down. And even though I believe that Ian has changed for the better, this apology video is a starting point at best. He was extremely irresponsible with his platform and amplified racist behavior, regardless of his intentions, and so he's gonna need to do much more before many people are ready to forgive him, if they ever forgive him.

  4. Hmm. This is an interesting take. Feels odd to disagree with Charlie. It's like he's unaware of how much of an impact Ian had on racist incels and how they viewed his content as validation for their own warped views. I appreciate Ian's apology and like seeing his growth.

  5. im sorry but it is very weird and fustrating that you a white popular content creator is going to just water down idubbz content effects on ppl as being edgy this is just continuing this cycle that this behavior is excusable and when ppl speak up about this we are just overreacting. like please think for a minute the shit u just said

  6. I think this very well might be the first miss I’ve ever seen from Charlie. Idubbbz did COMPLETLY fuck up a large generation of people for a long time. I deeply regret the actions and things that I said influenced by idubbz content. There are so many people I’m never gonna get the opportunity to apologize to because either I don’t have the ability to or because they don’t want to hear it. It’s completely reasonable that he made this apology, and it’s equally understandable that many people don’t accept it because the damage has been done.

  7. Even if Idubbz content wasn't harmful (which it was to the minority groups and internet celebrities it made fun of) it created a huge community of racists and losers that he took no accountability in creating until now, which I feel like Charlie isn't taking into consideration

  8. His current self is a great example of how modern left wing political tribalism makes a lot of people, especially straight white men, hate themselves.
& I say this as a leftie. I loved his old work. But I find the man I see before me to be broken by the modern world.
I've been trying to mellow out recently myself. I honestly get it. But I'm not going to apologise for being young & in a different time/culture; nor am I going to be guilted into being someone I'm not in the modern age if I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
The same person can come across vastly different in different circles & he doesn't seem to get that.
