It is rare that an artist goes as left field as Bowie does on Ziggy Stardust, while remaining both palatable and ambitious

in other words I like it a lot.

  1. It’s definitely not his best imo. Don’t get me wrong it’s great and so iconic but when it comes to just the musical content I prefer other albums of his like Aladdin Sane, Heroes, Station to Station, etc…

  2. Such a wonderful album, I really hope you end up checking more of his work, he made so much, some bad, but a lot of it good, there's something for everyone!

  3. I highly recommend checking out Bowie’s “Berlin” trilogy- Low, Heroes, and Lodger. He did these in collaboration with Brian Eno around the time he was living in Berlin while recovering from his cocaine addiction. They’re incredible, lightning in a bottle albums which toe the line between rock, pop, and ambient.

  4. Honestly, Ziggy is the perfect album, it tells a story that's interesting, it's short, it has no bad songs on it, it flows cohesively and is also made by one of the true greats of Rock music.

  5. This album is schizo gold, kanye west on the cover, 5 years announcing the ‘death of rock’ and the birth of punk (therefore the end of the world), all the weird lyrics about headaches and new love

  6. 1. Would've been even better if Brad had listened to the ZIggy-related non-album tracks (definitely, Sweet Head and Velvet Goldmine, and, dubiously, John I'm Only Dancing and Round 'n Round)
    2. "Pink Monkey Bird" means anal sex recipient, well he did say "church of man love"
    3. The Starman chorus is a bit of a Harold Arlen lift – It Ain't Easy was done better on the live BBC session where Dana cuts through – "Just watch me now" is a Lou Reed reference
    4. "This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed at home, I could make a wild mutation as a rock and roll star"…
    5. Pure Bowie = phrases like "leper messiah" and "sucked up into his mind"

  7. With David Bowie’s Songwriting & Vocals along with Mick Ronson on Piano Melotron String Arraignments and His Other Worldly Guitar Solo make Ziggy Stardust Bowie’s Signature Album

  8. Station to Station is what turned me onto Bowie. I'd heard everything before it and really enjoyed it, but there was something about this recording that sealed the deal for me. Give it a ride!
