I-Team: Hidden cameras reveal dark side of solar power

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga – A hidden camera FOX 5 I-Team investigation takes the shine off some big promises made to Georgia homeowners about solar power.

With rising energy prices, you may be paying closer attention to those ubiquitous ads on social media:

“The government will cover the cost to install solar.”

“Get paid to go solar!”

“Reduce or even eliminate your electric bill by using solar energy.”

Amie and Nathan Tatro of Lafayette saw the same ads. So they signed a contract with Power Home Solar — now Pink Energy — to outfit their home with solar panels, a deal that cost $91,000 with monthly installments over 25 years.

“It’s not turned out to be what was promised,” Amie admitted. “Almost everything he said turned out not to be true.”

  1. cheers, establishment and mafias will never let you take advantage this is their bread and butter i think the world should have shited to solar much more earlier but these focal fuel producering countries will not let the technology improve and local mafias disguised as establsihment are their buddies. let the oil run out and then you will see how this and other alternative technologies improve

  2. The tax rebate on car, solar, etc is what will hold the county/world back to a cleaner environment. The point was made and I've said it several times, is they're just giving you your money back, when to really get stuff off the ground it needs to be a grant like the rich and stimulus theives got. Because without paying in the taxes, energy and fuel savings never gets down to poorer people. And of course these people are just crooks, trying to steal your rebate.

  3. The dangerous of the company representative person who comes to talk and negotiate with the customers. They have the art of talking! We recently got our house roof renewed by 1st choice. The company talker told everything nicely, ask us to pay for labor of taking gutters off and putting on and the window panel, however, they did not take off or put back on any gutter and did not fix the window panel professionally right either!!!

  4. People still don't get it ? There is nothing wrong with any of the technology we had or don't have but the problem is unfairness among the gender that no one know why it existed and should not continue

  5. this is funny friend nj asked about solar for his roof. 1st question by me fast was how old is your roof.. he did not get it.. i sure do.. If the roof is not new then it will need replacing before solar is worn out.. Light bulb goes off…so who removes and reinstalls solar on new roof? roofers might remove but not nicely if disconnected, they sure aint reinstalling it. Im still laughing.. again how old is your roof dont know?

  6. Well the price for solar electric energy produced in solarpower-plants build in the desert dropped below 1,5 cent. @FOX how unfoxy is the price of your whatever power-plant?

  7. Solar water heaters work well. Those have been used for years. I laughed when the push to sell back excess power was being promoted. First, the electrical grid in your area must set up to allow it and that must be approved by the respective counties. The brand of panel is important too.

  8. First off Solar does not reduce your energy. If you are tied into the grid net energy is not possible because you have to be removed from the grid to do so. If you have a transfer switch it is either hooked up to grid power or solar power as backup. The issue raised if you cannot shut off the solar power to grid you can kill a lineman if you do not have a transfer switch. Transfer switch’s are just that they switch you from grid to emergency power. Net credit power is not possible for safety reasons.

  9. no power company that I know of offers 100% kw per kw back on your bill. Those that offer anything its only giving you back the generating cost of that power which is more like 2 or 3 cents per KW. The power companies by government intervention got out of paying you back for transportation costs. That in itself kills the "you get money back" promise.

  10. 20 years of payments for Solar panels that are only 12% effective, AND, they are only rated to last a total of 20-25 years. Who pays for your new roof when the Solar Panels ruin your roof? YOU. And Insurance does not cover it if you ruin your roof with the solar panels.
