I survived 96 hours on Royal Caribbean's worst rated cruise ship

Allie recently sailed on the oldest Royal Caribbean cruise ship that is regularly rated among the lowest reviews. Grandeur of the Seas is the oldest ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, and we got so many questions from our viewers wanting to know if it’s a mistake to go on her.

  1. I too just sailed on 'Grandeur (Sept'23) on a 5nt. Overall, I thought it was okay. The biggest surprise and a huge disappointment was the lack of care by the staff. This was, in my experience (D+) a huge surprise and really stood out. Especially the windjammer. Staf NEVER cleaned the tables during the dinner rush. This was absolutely amazing and if anyone was a first time RCCL or cruiser, they would never do it again. Really a surprise and poor experience.

  2. Been on this ship around three times. It comes down to great deals vs more amenities. If you want a chilled environment with great service this is the ship for you. It was older but not that bad 🙂 Adjust your expectations and you may be surprised. 😊

  3. Go looking for trouble and you’ll find it. Send a couple of Karen’s looking for trouble and you’re gonna get Karen action….. this is pitiful

  4. Sailed on my first and only cruise on The Grandeur in 2018. It was small, but nice. I agree that it could’ve had a little more entertainment particularly for families. My daughter was 6 at the time and spent most of her time at the Adventure Ocean. We went for 9 days in July, so it did get old after a few days. Luckily the weather was nice the whole trip so we got to go visit at all the ports.

  5. Grandeur was our first royal cruise, which we took this past July. It was not too bad because we were on an itinerary we had already gone to so we just wanted to enjoy and relax. My son came with/ & they don’t have a lot of things for the teens to do, but he made friends during the teen meet & greet so he ultimately enjoyed himself along with a few excursions we took. That being said, the ship is a little old & I feel there are a few things Royal can do to update at low cost. What made our experience great was the service, the food and each other. We wanted to spend time with one another & this was our first cruise experience since the cancel of our cruises in 2020. So overall, we were so happy that we booked on Wonder coming up next year. Can’t wait to see and experience their newer ship line.

  6. I’m 41, and I must say that I prefer a cruise that is smaller and not as crowded. My first two cruises were on Freedom of the Seas, and it was a blast. No cruise is going to be perfect, but to me, the smaller the cruise, the better. I don’t need bells and whistles. Just a balcony room, alcohol, and tons of food, and I’ll be set for life.

  7. I was on the Jewel ouf of Orlando this year, and the 5th deck hall smelled like Raw sewage. Like it was backed up somewhere, and the methane gas was building up.

  8. When i was a teen in the 00s, the only fun thing we had on a cruise was shuffleboard and a basketball court that closed at sunset. The internet was in the librar, but you had to pay per hour. No mini golf, waterslides, floerider, ect. I remember playing a lot of card games with friends i met. Its amazing all the things cruise ships have now.

  9. I was on Oasis in April and on Serenade in August. Believe it or not, I thoroughly enjoyed Serenade much more! But to each their own. I am much more of a chill and relax kind of person and had plenty of entertainment options. I can see how some may get bored on smaller ships but for the price it was unbeatable!

  10. Just cruised on Vision of sea for 2nd time and as far as food goes only had 1 bad experience and 1 meal I didn't like. I did notice if you see something broken in your room tell them they will fix it with in minutes if the parts are on board . I do recommend ear plugs if your on deck 2 or 3 for your room . 9 nights is a little to long on this class ship for me, but I haven't been cruising long.

  11. I just got off Grandeur of the Seas and the crew was absolutely fabulous. But, the ship itself was small and not much to do. I ended up just hanging out by the pool and just hitting the gym. Oh, and someone threw their pads down the toilet which clogged the toilet for multiple rooms.

  12. Not everyone wants the floating funfairs at sea ,some people actually like the smaller ships that can get into the ports the big ships can't also you don't get the crowds and lines you get on some of the mega ships.

  13. I worked on Granduer of the seas and it was a great experience. I would recommend couples and old age people to broad because we don't have as much activities on board but we make sure every guest safe and we give good customer service. SEE YOU GUYS NEXT YEAR GODS WELL THANK YOU

  15. Was on the Oasis last month and we pulled into port next to the Grandeur at Coco Cay. it was tiny in comparison to the Oasis. Already booked for the Symphony next fall 2024.
