I Spoke With Amazon Games About New World Part 2 (Mounts, Weapons, Instruments, Future Content)

5/31/2021 – Last week we broke down the first part of the conversation that took place between myself and Amazon Games about New World. This included the Studio Director – Richard Lawrence, Game Director – Scot Lane, and Creator Relations Manager – Greg H. We covered a lot of different subjects and today we’re going to be talking about EVERYTHING else that was discussed that day.
Massive disclaimers will be needed because a few of these topics (specifically two) are big spoilers for what Amazon may be planning for the future. The mounts topic for example we’ve previously covered as something that seemed like a “maybe it will, maybe it wont”. Today that changes. It’s now a “when”.

They wanted my feedback on several of these topics on top of allowing me to ask any questions I had about the current state of things. I managed to cover most of the bases although I did not remember to ask more about PVP, but we give feedback on that subject a lot anyway so it’s fine.
Also using this opportunity to relay some extra feedback provided by both you folks in the community and ones I have personally held onto.

As always, diving right into this mega topic surrounding the seven topics of my conversation with Amazon Games about New World.

Topics:

1. Mounts
2. Gameplay Systems or New Zones
3. Social Features of New World (Multi-company Alliances, Musical Instruments, Tavern Features, Tournaments)
4. Future Gear Sets & Cosmetics
5. Future & Current State of The Lore
6. Weapons Topic
7. Expansions, Naval Mechanics, 4th Faction

  1. Took much longer than I thought it would but we're here! This was a nostalgia trip for me to make because I had an excuse to bring up past MMO experiences I really enjoyed.
I know I'm spamming them everywhere at this point but another DISCLAIMER that what we talked about in the conversation doesn't have a definite timeline on when it'll happen
or if some of it will, but it's very interesting to know where their mind is at, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for the social features & potential gameplay system ideas especially.
Let me know what you folks would like to see!

  2. Because we are adventuring in a new land.. i don't feel we are under stress to defend any of our positions.
If a few of the towns could degrade from attacks, would be fun.

  3. first topic. defo go for detailed mounts even if it takes as long as it has to take for a good polished product to appear. quality over quantity is always my motto. for example theres no point to absolute mountain of things to do if they are not worth doing. second one. More events and if dynamic events would be a thing it would be wonderful. prob one of the things guild wars 2 absolute nailed was their dynamic events, it makes the in game world more alive. third part. more co-op stuff would be nice, and i mean stuff besides dungeons/raids/pvp. gathering in a tavern to listen to music and talk with people would be great, tournaments would be great as well the more alternative things to do besides end game content the better. dont force a player to rush to max level and just spam end content till they get sick of it, give them alternative stuff to do whenever. for "class" weapon a scythe or something like that to match a necromancer raising undead and debuffing enemies.

  4. Appreciate your constant updates, it has put a lot of the questions many of us had at rest. Love your informative and guide videos Ser keep up the great work.

  5. No mounts needed at launch. Often just dilutes the exploration aspect of the game. If they do add it later it should be an in depth system with progression and exists in the game world even when not being used; not something that just appears/disappears when summoned.

  6. Wow so much information and content. First Thank you for the videos. I think that an alliance would be redundant because of the faction system, it acts like an alliance already. You are 100% spot on with the social aspect an your ideas. I would love a Bard and musical instruments as well as NPCs in the community. I for one want to see the daggers and Darts or throwing stars to make a rouge/assassin or faction based religious character like a necro, druid or cleric. But I do enjoy the simplistic start of this game that will allow for expansions and further development. Not giving us everything all at one. I have been playing MMO since UO and EQ and it is refreshing to "start from scratch". I don't think we need a mount system yet and they can ties the arrival of horses to the LORE in future. Maybe elephants, mules carriages and chariots as well. As for tavern games I am all for this as well but there may be an issue in EU with their wagering laws. Again thank you for the videos.

  7. Bard weapon would be great – lute, drums, flute would all be workable. I've seen stuff where flute does interruptions, drums do battle buffs (best distance) and lutes do some form of healing of disease/poison (verses injury/bleeds which would be life). The nice thing about using these three instruments for support combat is that they also are the base instruments for a band and could be used for social.

  8. Please no mini games, no gambling, none of that. Why do we need gambling inside of the game? Why do we need Texas holdem inside of the game? This would ruin it for me. Slippery slope as well. We say we are okay with gambling and next thing you know they are adding in RNG Loot boxes onto the cash shop. Say no to gambling! It ruins life's people.

  9. Character creation needs work I think. I'd like to see a height slider at minimum, but adjusting body type with a slider or presets would also be nice.

  10. 1. mounts are not needed at the current moment, Running somewhere in the game takes maybe 5-10min at the most. If they add more areas or more PvP ways to use mounts, that would be awesome! I think they have to figure out a way to add them into the PvP so that you can dismount the enemy, and also not just get back on to run away.
    2. I agree that they should work more on the existing zones. New zones are always cool, but I think there is so much empty space that could have some meaning to it other than just being a location you went to for 1 quest. There is a ton of potential for the beautiful landscapes they have already created. The more dynamic events and such is definitely needed, with a lot more PvP ways to level. Maybe these carts need protecting and have a bunch of gold in them and depending on the faction you have to either defend or attack it, either way getting gold for winning the event and exp. Also random "hardpoints" that could spawn in zones that can be fought over for gold and exp would be nice. I know faction missions and forts are both pvp, but forts don't give the player anything and pvp missions weren't really pvp. Invasions should also definitely be open world with factions defending their forts/towns.
    3. Taverns. Yes please. This sounds stupid, but it is a ton of fun to play card games in-game after just finishing a hard as hell boss fight with your group. Minigames like these just create something fun to do and make you want to stay in the world, even if you're too tired to do another dungeon. Relaxing, just doing some fun stuff is what makes mmos like these different from other games.
sorry for the long ass comment lol
Great video! Everything was done awesome and easy to understand! thanks for all the work you put into them

  11. I'd like to see some fishing competitions/events. I think fishing is a great addition to the game and tying to some of the tediousness of leveling a gathering profession can be not only rewarded, but encouraged by those who need more satisfaction out of it.

  12. I would love necromancy and nature magic. You talked about dragon age early in the video and one of my favorite parts of that game was the shapeshifter magic and that could be cool for nature magic. Have one tree be shapeshifting and the other be nature control which could be about vines and plants for cc. And necromancy could be the summoning type magic where one tree is summoning undead and the other is focused on life drain and other necromancy magic.

  13. I think that it's great Amazon is asking these questions, however feel that these are questions that should have been asked and considered more heavily on a year or two ago when it was decided to change direction of genre. Anyone that has played any of the successful titans in the industry knows they never created these games with end game pve or pvp as the goal. Its always been about the small things that made them so great in the end. I think it'll be a hesitant curiosity rather than excitement that gets me through the doors to start.

  14. In new world there are no vendors to sell your items to obtain gold, it is all based on your MP and individual interactions with other people. Therefore roaming the world and obtaining items during your travels from place to place, is a part of making the MP lively. We do not need mounts until the game is farther in release when this mechanic becomes obsolete because everyone " has everything."

  15. For the mounts, I dont want rushed. I want them to hold off on it until it feels right to add them into the game. I also hope that if they add flying mounts, that they make them very diffecult to obtain so not everyone can be seen flying around.

  16. They don't need to rush mounts or more weapons. Lets see what the content has in store and go from there.

Still very curious how endgame gearing goes. I wish that question was asked. Are we always going to be running a gear treadmill, or something more akin to Gw2 and ESO where we can build gear sets

  17. Imagine naming every video game under the sun which most of us never played or even heard of because most of us are playing wow or ffxiv the 2 titans in the mmo world. Interesting how u never used these for comparison. You do know that ffxiv has housing, a massive social experience, musical instruments etc. Great video non the less. Always enjoy your content

  18. Good stuff man, thanks for sharing all that with us.

As mainly a crafter who needs to move a LOT between cities and values Azoth, I really wished there were a basic mount system from day 1, but I am ok with waiting if they want to do something bigger.

  19. Guild wars 2, while having a very generous fast travel system has lived 5 yrs without mounts. When they were added in the 2nd expansion, they were praised as the best mounts in the genre. New world should really take their time to implement their version.

  20. Not many games use flails or whips despite being cool weapons hope they add flails soon. And treasure hunting like osrs clue scrolls would be amazing, its such a good system

  22. This video was full of “I’, “I”, “I”. While it is nice for you to wish and speculate the possibilities that many could probably get behind, this “Part 2”, was not really that. No real new or relevant information. Was more a Christmas wish list video of what is personally wanted in New World. AGS needs to be communicating more to everyone and directly engaging everyone for a very good consensus on the path forward after launch.

  23. Mounts seem to be a big topic now in every mmo, it’s not how it used to be, mounts now are just another means for players to rush the game, same with rushing the XP to get to the end game. Even in 2004, when wow came out, you did not have a mount, it was available at a certain level (30 or 40, don’t remember) and you had to have gold to buy it and gold was not easily made (Paladins got there’s free).
So, at some point they should have mounts but as long as there is a way to move around the map I.e. fast travel, I’m not concerned about mounts.
