Honda’s Transalp was something of a cult classic when it came out in the 80s and 90s. Their new attempt is another parallel twin with a 270 degree crank, like so many other bikes in the category. Does the 2024 Transalp bring anything new to the middleweight adventure bike market or is it just another option people look at before buying a Tenere 700?

  1. I love mine! My quickshifter tends to be a little bit jarring between first and second, like coming away from stoplights, so I think you're right that it's best when you've already got some momentum. And I'd love to have cruise control too, but I'm satisfied with a good throttle lock until I spring for an aftermarket solution. The absence of an ABS button is probably the most telling that it's not as purpose-built for "adventure" as say the BMW GS, even those 1150s built 20 years ago, and I think they had an ABS button. If I'm honest with myself about that last one though, I'm in the >90% of ADV riders who put >90% of my miles on the bike in conditions where I don't need or want to disable ABS. I'm just not that guy, but I don't think Honda built this bike for that guy.

  2. For some reason Honda thinks that the North American market only wants blacked out bikes….my new CB650R is gorgeous all black but I had absolutely no choice in colour….in Europe I would have had 3 other choices.

  3. Do you know what company got the ABS/Traction control selection right? Moto Guzzi. On the V85TT you can quickly go to "Off Road" mode on the fly, which turns rear ABS off, and provides the least amount of TC. Or I can set the "Custom Mode" to no rear ABS, no TC, and choose my throttle map. When you turn the bike off in either Off Road or Custom mode, it retains the information and leaves the bike in the rider selected mode, TC settings, and ABS settings.

Moto Guzzi isn't the "go-to" ADV brand, but they got right, what many got wrong.

Oh, and it has cruise, and a 6 gallon gas tank 😀

  4. A loss of power due to noise emissions regulations here is fine, as youre just a $300ish flash away from full power. Basically applies to all new bikee now, just isnwhat it is. Flash it.

  5. I have the '19 cb500x no abs 🤦 (NX500) & I thought that was an ADV bike? I paid like $6,000… Look at the CF-moto 450MT or 800 ibex badass bikes many more features than Honda.. I went out riding with some buddies who ride Harleys & the new guy who I just met was talking shit @ 1st like "we'll see if you can keep up with that little Honda we ride fast" all the way thru the next 40 mi ride I was right behind them, I would have been in front I just didn't know where we were going 😉 I put a different sprocket so my speedometer is a little off I did not think to turn on my GPS on my📱my buddy on the Harley said we were going between 85-90 mph lol i was about 6-6,500 RPMs & redline 8,500 rpm

  6. It is funny how polarizing this bike is. People either love it or hate it. I very much like the jack of all trades aspect of this bike. I can realistically only own one bike at a time at this point in my life, so a jack of all trades is what I was looking for. It's not the best at anything, but it is decent at everything I need. If I could have 3 or 4 bikes, it might not be in that stable. Veridian cruise for the win on the CC issue by the way, it has worked great for me.

  9. I don't know I'm the only one, but I REALLY WISH manufacturers would get rid of "user modes" through damned menus! ….GIMME SWITCHES AGAIN! Simplicity would make riding fun again!

  10. 1,100 miles from Eureka to Los Angeles ? The whole dang state is only a touch over 800 miles long …hopefully some major side quests going down 👀 Chico To San Clemente, which is longer distance is only 560 miles 🤔

  11. Purchased my TransAlp back in February and have been loving it. Only two gripes – which I knew going in – was the lack of cruise control and tubed tires. Veridian Cruise solved the cruise control issue and it works great, so that's a non-issue now. Regarding the TC/ABS being a annoying to turn on/off, LSK Technologies should have their dongle to remody that available in the next couple months so it will just be a matter of holding down on the crosspad for a few seconds to turn them on/off, plus it will remember your settings if you turn the key off which is another huge plus. Wheels are the same width as an Africa Twin's (wheel spacer p/n's are the same to), so I'll be keeping an eye out for a set on Flea-bay this winter to go tubeless.

  12. For a color option, I don't mind the black, but could use more red and grey/silver in graphics to break it up so it's not just solid black with a stripe. Some pretty good wrap kits coming out now for the T/A so plenty of options to totally change the look if you want to.
