I Played Kingdom Hearts For The First Time*

WHEN YOU WALK AWAY, YOU DON’T HEAR ME SAY “PLEEEEASE, OH BAAABY DON’T GOOOO!”

Big thanks to Elizabeth (@fleethelair) for the fantastic thumbnail art and my brother Mavrick for helping me to set up the emulation software that I used to capture the gameplay footage.

I hope you all enjoy this video. It’s a bit of a new format for me and I hope that I was able to communicate my authentic experience playing Kingdom Hearts all the way through for the very first time.

  1. Crazy how fast these videos get to 1,000 views now. Just shows how much the channel has grown since I started and I'm so incredibly happy about that.
I wanted to pop down here into the comment section and just thank you all for watching this video, sharing your Kingdom Hearts opinions, tips, tricks, and memories, and for supporting this new type of video from me.
I love hearing everyone's experiences with this game and greatly appreciate those of you who have been requesting me to further explore the series as well as get into other games I've never played that you're recommending.
Lastly, to those of you who have been roasting me by making fun of my gameplay, pointing out where I'm wrong in terms of the lore, or just having a laugh at my experience, I have one thing to say to you: Keep doing it! 🤣
I genuinely appreciate feedback of all kinds and am always willing to hear where I've goofed up or can improve. I get better with every video by checking and seeing what you all think in the comments and (despite the bad reputation the comments section gets) there's real value in that discussion.

You're all the best. Every single one of you. ❤❤❤

  2. I recently had my first playthrough of kh1 to finally get into the series (i knew nothing) and stupidly chose proud mode after coming off playing games like bloodborne, Elden Ring, and i got whooped by the tarzans jungle lizzard/clay boss for like 3 hours😂 proud mode pre cure is a pain in the ass

  3. I LOVE that you played the ps2 version rather than the 1.5 remix! I definitely prefer the camera and triangle interaction in the remix, but it's the version I'm most familiar with and I'm always sad when people kinda forget that it exists lmao. playing the ps2 version recently, I was trying to find guides to help streamline making the ultima weapon, and I had to sift through a bunch of guides that were specific to the 1.5 remix. there are also some cutscenes added in the remix to show Riku's perspective, but I prefer it being more of a mystery to both Sora and the player

and if you're trying to have the authentic childhood KH1 experience, the camera and command menu jank are an absolute must-have lmao. I once almost cried laughing when I went into first person to look around and got a face full of Goof

  4. Kingdom Hearts was my first RPG. Ever. Until then, I had mostly played movie tie-in games like Monsters Inc. Kingdom Hearts changed my life forever. It taught me that games could have a great story and amazing characters. I had the same problem with save files, so I would just start over and over again until about a year after I got this game. I think I was 10 year's old. I eventually found a strategy guide for Kingdom Hearts, and it was awesome. I'm 31, and this game franchise has just gotten bigger and better over time. I understand that it isn't perfect, but it takes me back to a time that was simple and clean. Kingdom hearts was the gateway to many more games like the Persona series or the Yakuza franchise Castlevania, Devil May Cry, Ace Attorney, Assassins Creed, No More Heroes and so many more. I enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy the rest of this amazing confusing brilliant and life changing series that I love very much.

  5. Should have played the remakes can skip cut scenes in those versions, plus has the final mix which adds all the Japanese content that wasn't in the original American versions.

  7. I just started watching the video, and I'm going to finish it after making this comment, so ill say I don't know everything that you say within the video yet. But I did want to say that I absolutely love the concept that you're trying to do this as blind as possible! Ask to be honest this is how everyone experience these games when they were younger and growing up! If you do continue this journey while you could play The originals… As I've seen a lot of people say in the comments about the fact that people may have told you to play the remix's I honestly agree with that sentiment just still doing it blind so never get told by your friends or anybody else you know what's actually happening in the games or what's going to come up or anything like that.

As for me I've always seen that Kingdom hearts mystery of the story has been a big part of actually what makes it very engaging. But again I'm just a random person on the internet and already I really like how you're doing your video here so, I hope to see more of your content!

If you do end up reading this comment thank you for taking the time out of your day to read it as I understand time is a valueble thing for everyone these days! ^•^ hope you have a wonderful day!

  8. Another one of these games i just loved to play as a kid but could not for the life of me acutally beat haha. This one was really vague about some triggers to progress some story elements. Plus all the menuing as well as a couple actually hard fights. But it was always a magical experience

  9. Always love seeing a fresh-faced individual experience this series. I've been a fan since I first played the original game as a teenager, and I'm still obsessed now, so thrilled to see you had a good time with the game. Subscribing so I can see the KH 2 video when that comes. On that point though, are you considering playing the between game, Chain of Memories, or just going straight to 2?

  10. Also i have to add. While i understand the distaste for the gummi ship sections, they only get better or at least more fun if you really build a faster and stronger gummi ship. Makes it more exciting as well as go by faster.

  11. Aaaaand just like most of us i assume you actually did not finish Monstro. But you can not be blamed for that haha. You could find a new ability (im a chest) in that world which allows you to access higher areas and those lead to another boss fight and finish up the world.

  12. I played most of the series and tbh my favorite was number 2. I don't hate 1 but it was a bit janky-feeling. I had fun with some of the spinoffs (like '358/2') but the numbered ones were more fun to play as a game. The rest felt more like games for the lore guys.

  13. I just completed Kingdom Hearts for the first time yesterday, from the collection so I could fortunately skip cutscenes. I tried Ansem a few times before deciding to reload from before the fight and going back and completing the Hercules cup and going around to find trinity spots I hadn't gotten to. This gave me an upgraded wind spell, the curaga spell and of course some munny and levels. I used the munny to buy and equip accessories which minimized dark damage and then beat Ansem's second fight in 2-3 tries, and the boss after that on the first time (basically brute forcing it, keeping the wind spell up and healing between just bashing the enemies).

I thought the roughest part was actually the start on the beach. I walked around for way too long with one mushroom missing. Deep Jungle also gave me some trouble, as I was searching a lot of the areas for what to do next, when what I had to do was return to the tent to trigger a cutscene. Overall I enjoyed it and will probably keep playing the series after doing something else for a while.

  14. fun fact: atlantica is 100% skippable. If you complete Halloweentown you don't have to do it at all, and the only major things you miss are a spell upgrade, the world's keyblade, and a migraine

  15. Fortunately, if you were to play KH Final Mix 1.5+2.5 you would find that your issues with cutscenes and the camera to have been fixed. They added cutscene skips and analog camera controls in the updated versions. But yes I remember as a kid fighting Riku in Hallow Bastion and memorizing the entire cutscene and mocking Riku every time he talked. That cutscene was super long, too, so it was just punishing to die at that fight.

  16. 34:10 So you actually can see Pinocchio and Geppetto again after completing the Monstro world. There's a house with a house on the path to the right of the accessory shop in Traverse Town (the 9ath with the stairs that takes you up to the entrance to the Second District. I think it has a green door. Prior the Monstro level that door is locked, but sometimes after completing it the door unlocks. I'm pretty sure the only indication the game gives you of this is that the window next to the door is lit up now. You can talk to Pinocchio and Geppetto here and you can actually get Gummi Ship blueprints from them, and I you can even get a Keyblade in a chest here. The Keyblade is The Wishing Star. I looked it up to double check I was right about it and the stats are interesting. It has +5 strength, +0 magic, and has a short reach. It also has the ability where every last hit of a combo is a critical hit so that's pretty neat.

  17. I'm just gonna put this here as a warning for the future, the phrase, "Keyblade Master" is actually a mistranslation. In the Japanese version, it read closer to "The Keyblades Chosen One" which isn't that different, but the former insinuates there's only 1 Master of the Keyblade, when there just isn't. this is fixed for later games in the series, but is never explained why it was phrased in this way for this game. Think of it like the Kingdom Key has Chosen Sora, rather than the broader term of the "Keyblade"

  18. ok so… you did miss a lot from Monstro. there's a door above the other door in the mouth area. the one riku goes into. going in there finishes the world and there's a whole thing with Pinocchio and Geppetto you complexly missed

  19. 15:29 It’s pronounced “truh-VERSE.” The fact that almost every Kingdom Hearts YouTuber pronounces it wrong is my single biggest pet peeve with this franchise and I die a little bit more inside every time I hear “TRAH-verse.”

Other than that, great video. Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game franchise of all time and has been since I was a kid when the first game came out. Always fun to see another person get interested in the series.

  20. Not only am I an unironically Kingdom Hearts lover; it may be in my top 5 stories all of time.

Yeah, I do have to begrudgingly look past the campy and cringe moments or dialogue (or learn to love it ironically) but the convoluted story not only isn’t a bother, it’s a selling point.

I love how all over the place it is. If it was just a bunch of loose threads everywhere like Phase 4 MCU, I wouldn’t like. But everything is importance. I thrive on every new character, every new plot twist, new scheme, every new faction, new manifestation of darkness. Sometimes, many times, I wish things were explained more clearly but the complexity itself I live for.
