I PLAYED 70+ HOURS OF STARFIELD – My Honest Impressions

From trademark filings to impressions, we’ve finally made it and it’s honestly kind of unbelievable. After sinking over 70 hours into Starfield on Xbox Series X, there is a staggering amount of “main content” still on the table for me to see. While I have yet to fall in love like prior BGS games, I could see myself getting there in due time. The quests, writing, and gameplay stand as a major improvement while some “BGS Purist” elements enter muddy waters. Ultimately, I feel Starfield has met the expectations I’ve set upon it.

  1. Honestly loving starfield, not exactly what I wanted tbh but it's still amazing.
Hate the low # of companions tho, was hoping for a bunch of personalities, instead we got constellation and the kind of people who would work for them

  2. So I'm at 55 hours played. Beat the UC on my first play through then ran through the main quest in 12 hours or so, got to new game+ and did the free star collective and ryujin industries quest lines, now I'm banging out UC again, next up is crimson pirates and I'll go unto new game +2.

So far my only complaint is that there should be more filler quests in the beginning of all 3 of the "good guy" factions. They should have added 4 or 5 more quests at the beginning loading them will information about the faction like how they operate, their command structure, what they are and aren't willing to tolerate, any possible corruption issues, ect. Each faction is only about 4-5 hours long if you mainline it through them, what I like about free star collective is the instant access to their bounty board so you can do what I did and do 10-15 of those missions before continuing the quest line so you feel less like you are a noobie being given an extremely important mission which is how all these quest lines go.

UC being the worst example as it starts in their first off world quest. Immediately you are pulled into an extremely important issue so if you are role playing you feel the need to mainline the quest line as if this was IRL any time wasting would mean innocent lives lost. An issue from previous BGS games main quests they got out of the main quest in starfield but kept in the factions quest lines.

My biggest tip to seriously extend play time per playthrough regardless of the level of role playing you intend to use is to start constellation and go through the first mission with Sarah so you can have a follower if you want one as well as a quick bit of credits. Then literally just walk through Atlantis, you will pick up 4 or 5 side quests. When you get to ant of the major cities, don't run, walk. I missed tons of side quests my first run through the game because I was sprinting everywhere. Starfield isn't skyrim or fallout, stop running everywhere or you will miss out on a lot of content. Same with fast traveling, only fast travel to your ship or the major settled planets where you get scanned. For all the other planets fly there, you will have lots of random encounters including side quests if you fly to a planet instead of fast traveling to an objective.

Let that main quest stay where it is until you are ready to start making progress onto new game+ at about the halfway point the questline becomes more dire so you feel more inclined to start mainlining it when you are doing a deep role play.

I'd do free star collective first, nice questline, gives you that bounty board for fast ship upgrade missions with the hunting crimson fleet bounties and lots of medical supplies and ammo from the ones where you go planet side. And the quest line rewards are nice too and make missions for other factions a bit easier.

Also save up a few skill points before you start UC, the simulator is amazing for upgrading your ship skills but you dont gain XP for the ships you destroy so unless you have banked skill points you won't be able to do more than one tier of ship skill objectives which is a major waste of its potential, can save you tons of deaths in early ship combat by getting those shield skills up so get that unlocked and bank at least 3 skill points before starting UC but id also get piloting and have 6 skills banked. Can cut out like 10 hours of fighting ships before you can pilot rank C ships doing it this way and trust me, you want a rank C reactor.

  3. 41 hours in.
Have not even properly joined Constellation. As soon as I could back out of the conversation (when you are given the room in the Lodge) I immediately swept through the entire Lodge picking up everything that wasn't nailed down and sold it all off.

Since then I been going off on my own (until the Adoring Fan joined me) to different planets and basically powering up my character through combat, resource gathering etc.

I got lock picking up to Master, maxed out "Wellness" ….got the first Pickpocketing skill and the one that allows the ship to target enemy ship parts.

Upgraded the Frontier ship with additional habs with workbenches along with extra cannons and lasers, few shield and engine & reactor upgrades etc.
Done quite a few side quests.

For me it just feels EXACTLY like an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game. Say screw the main quest and just go off and build up my character and abilities. I use the Lodge storage box thing to store every resource I find.

Maybe it's just the way I personally play Bethesda games ….but Mattys view of it not being like previous Bethesda games in terms of exploration just does not ring true with me AT ALL.

I think Matty's biggest issue is with him being an influencer and under pressure to rush through the game to give a verdict/impressions video. I would HATE to experience a Bethesda game like that.
I take my time with these games…spend hundreds of hours just doing my own thing before even touching the main quest.

  4. Super boring Bethesda space theme is meh compared to others like Star Wars mass effect. No stats just perks lame water down mainstream RPG. Lucky I got to play it free on game pass. I’d recommend outerworlds over this game has more wacky fun while making your choices matter.

  5. I'm so confused as to how you've played 70 hours and haven't done more faction quests. I'm 48 hours in and have one more main mission and have completed 2 faction quest lines. I'm not criticizing by the way. Play how you want. I just can't imagine doing the side quests that much cause a lot of the side content is pretty meh aside from the faction content which is quite good.

  6. Remember how terrible Fallout 4 was? Yeah Starfield makes F4 looks like a masterpiece. Wait till all the backlash comes out for to these youtubers for pumping the game and watch how fast they change their opinion, kind of like last time. These people have no morals.

  7. I've never agreed with a reviewer more than I do now about the UI in Starfield.
I FUCKING LOATHE the UI in this godforsaken game!!!!
The camera angles for 3rd person mode is a nightmare as well.
So far I CAN NOT imagine playing this game over 50 hours like a lot of others are talking about.
This thing better impress me quick. I really hate this shit.

  8. So I think these BGS open world games have always been for purists. Starfield is no different in that respect. I think it's a masterpiece personally. Like a Paul Gauguin or a van Gogh you can see crude brush strokes, weird perspectives, ugly beauty. Greatness is very often not perfection. Sometimes things speak to us on many more levels than those we routinely use to define them as such. As I've played this game I've gone through a fair number of different emotions about it, but as it has unfolded itself like some vast, intricately inlaid puzzle box, yet again the sum has proven to be greater than all of it's parts. This is BGS with all cylinders firing, we may never see it's like again.

  9. Theres no point to the ship, you can just TP from the map to wherever you want. not much to do on planets. no WOW moments.. Runs like crap, textures are total dogpoo, looks bad for 2023 game. I dunno, not impressed. No mans sky kills it and fallout 4 and skyrim are just better.

  10. My favorite Bethesda game of all time is Morrowind, next would actually be fallout 4 because of the base building crafting. Third would be Skyrim. Do you think I would enjoy starfield? I would also mention Bethesda traditionally is one of my favorite studios in general

  11. Thank you for the truthfully transparent video. I tried it for a very short time. As a fallout vet, I found myself very overwhelmed by the start as I was treating it as I would when I start a fallout game. Now I’m excited to jump back in later tonight with a different focus.

  12. I don’t understand why they haven’t taken note from fallout new Vegas? Like you can shape the world how you want it and every play through feels different. Why am I hearing that one of the biggest RPG game studios Dosent have RPG elements! There’s a reason NV is the best Bethesda game. Because it feels like an RPG. Skyrim is awesome too but it doesn’t feel unique every play thorough aside from the weapons or magic you’re using. Smh man. I’m disappointed and I haven’t even played it yet
