I NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO ME * Archery hunting deer on public land *

The hunt continues! And it’s a lot harder than any other archery deer hunting I’ve done. The public land here is hard to access because of water and wildlife… like the cotton mouth / water moccasin that I almost stepped on while hiking through shin deep water or the poison ivy that has spread systemically through my body. The fun continues 🙂

  1. I'm quite allergic to poison ivy. It doesn't spread from scratch nor can it spread if they pop. It only spreads from the oils you may not have washed off well from you or your clothing. Get that handled and the spread stops. It's counter intuitive, but, a good itch relief is to run the spot on your arm under scalding hot water for as long as you can stand. It's the weirdest relief but it makes it feel better for hours for me and cuts my healing time down much shorter. Good luck.

  3. Hopefully you will build up some resistance to the poison ivy after going through this. Have you had deer get spooked by the permethrin spray going to try it out this weekend.Thank for the video!! & Good luck

  4. FLORIDA IS Great vacation state forsure no doubt about it. But as far as whitetail hunting goes not very popular at all. I don't recall watching any DVD's or hunting TV shows on cable in Florida. There has to be a reason for that.

I think your charisma and charm will be put to the test keeping your viewers entertained. Bowhunting in Florida appears to be very boring to me. Aren't you worried about algaters there so common what do you carry for protection.

  5. When ever I get poison ivy I will scrape it with a razor blade until it bleeds then pour rubbing alcohol on it. Yes it stings but it feels great at the same time. It dries up faster and I use Ivy gone takes 3 to 4 days and it's gone

  6. What I use for poison ivy was ferns. Wip the under side of the fern leafs to stop the iching. Not shure if Florida has ferns but here in Washington that's what I use if you get into a patch of ivy. You should invest in a pair of hip or chest waiders. My mom used to put bags on my feet when it snowed out so my feet didn't get wet when playn.

  7. Allie,

I’m a Florida native and I’ve had poison ivy several times. It is probably poison sumac that your getting into, looks like a vine growing up the tree. You can go to the doctor and they will prescribe you some pills that will dry it up in 3 to 4 days. If you see a tree with vines growing up it do not climb it!

  8. I am highly allergic to poison ivy. In my youth I never got it, around 18 yrs old I was covered with it, I had to get pills from Doctor to help relieve it for that episode. People can become sensitized to it thru life-time exposure. I even got it in winter after skinning rabbits bare handed – it came off their fur onto my hands. When i walk thru brush I am always looking out for it. Good luck avoiding it in the future..

  9. Poison Ivy is a pain, it will spread so don't itch it if you can avoid it. It's also one of the ones that many people are not allergic too. Poison Oak and Poison Sumac are way worse. They can be even worse, hopefully you didn't come in contact with either of those. Good luck with the itching.

  10. First, love the channel. Second, not to sound like ya'lls parents but, PLS go get snake boots! Poison ivy's got nothing on a Canebrake or Diamondback bite. I've been hit three times hunting and they've saved me serious pain, weeks to months of hunting days, and most importantly maybe my life. Talk to people and try on different ones before you settle on some that are going to be uncomfortable. Please check out the hospital's /medical centers close to your hunting areas to know which is the closest that carry anti-venom. Once again, it could save your life and it's better to know already than having to look up after it happens. It may seem overcautious to some but I'd rather have that knowledge and not need it than need it and not have it. Third, a hunting Southerner's medicine cabinet always contains Calamine and Benadryl. Learn to identify sumac. I'm certain I saw it on your video and given the area your hunting would guess that is what got you. It's more potent than ivy or oak.
Good luck to you both. You'll figure it out. Live and learn

  11. Found your video today. Wonderful to see young girls hunting. You look like my daughter that I raised hunting. I’m a woman hunter that started hunting with my husband at 23 now 63 and we’ve never stopped. Love it! Keep it up👍🏻

  12. Being up here in central MN & having a genetic predisposition to poison ivy I know what you're going through Allie. My father finished his last 6 months in the Army stateside. He was in Germany and had poison ivy so bad & they couldn't do anything for him. He had shots his whole life & sprayed the property to rid it of it. I personally haven't had shots & I've had poison ivy every month but December. I even got it with a food of snow in January. We had 12" of snow & the ground wasn't frozen. I was drilling & installing wood fence posts so they would freeze in tight over the winter. I got it from roots in the ground after my father had sprayed for years & there wasn't any growing in that area during the summer. I used Calamine lotion which seemed to dry it up better. Anything oily only made it worse. If I put cold water & Calamine lotion on it I got some relief. Then I would put tube socks over my forearms & hands @ night cuz I would wake up @ night scratching. If I did that I would put the Calamine on & cover it with the socks. Once u get it to dry out half the battle is over. I haven't had it now for 15 years & perhaps it's behind me. Probably worse down there with the heat & humidity which is the worst thing for it. Good luck & get back to the north👍.

  13. One who is super allergic to poison ivy, I've even got it from smoke burning brush, go straight to the Dr and get the good stuff to dry it up. I believe poison ivy has a range of 10+ days before it's starts to go away. Stay away(don't scratch the small blister, that will make it spread. Watch for the super flaird up one that look like they are multi layer. Those may leave scars that will take years to go aways ( understand this what I've experienced) take care and love the new video content.
