I Made a Game Illegally
Whether you’re a hobbyist in a game jam or an employee at a triple-A studio, game development is notorious for “crunch culture”: incredibly long hours that push you beyond exhaustion. But, with proper planning, can you make a game without crunching? In this video, I make a game in one week, working for just 2 hours/day, to answer the question: “Can you make a game with no crunch?”

"Realistic time"
2 hours a day
🤨What's crunch to you? A solid work day?
This was absolutely a game. Maybe.

I am the type of person who gets asked to make music. It's not the worst thing ever…. well maybe it is
The alarm at 3:09 literally jumpscared me so hard
Liar
That's my secret Cap, I'm always in crunch.
Having been a software engineer for 12 years now, I can tell you with confidence that there's no such thing as accurate estimates in software engineering.
Whenever you estimate something add 20 or 50% on top of it because you'll probably end up going on tangents, fixing weird bugs and refactoring stuff you didn't think of so your thing can work.
This game is really similar to an older classic Icy Tower. I can definitely see the inspiration here.
by only giving yourself the time you think everything is going to take, you're putting yourself in the same type of situation as "crunch"
am i the only one that thought him throwing the plushie in the closet
and it landing straight up was impressive
Looks really cheaply made lol
"Doing it from scratch is a lot of fun." are you insane💀💀💀
My man just speed-run the game developer career

Just in case you were wondering a negative can’t be under a square root, and therefore you must use an imaginary number. The answer would be i square root 1.
I think the 2 hours day was the most questionable part. I doubt anyone would try to really argue for a 2hour workday that's just dumb in terms of overhead.
I would was the shortest reasonable workday is about 3-5 hours. Because as much as there is a ceiling there is absolutely a minimum requirement for a certain type productivity.
And in this case I would set the bare minimum to get anything at all done at about ~30 minutes horrendously inefficient but the bare minimum of time for "progress".
But depending on your type of work there might not be a minimum days per week requirement. But for software development I would say 2 to 4 depending on how many days without work you took in between.
Example:if I had a 24 hour week I would likely on average work 6 hours on 4 days. I said average, because somedays I will still go to maybe about 10 hours. Because I am having a good flow/streak. And then end up only working 3 every few weeks. Or ending on 4 hours on a bad day. Because sometimes there is just no point in hitting your head against a wall.
Also:
Small estimates are only easy if the job is trivial in terms of complexity and you know the tools in and out.
There is a game called high risers that is literally that
I’m gonna munch I’m gonna crunch
that plushie is adorable but im too poor tbh

of course you can make a game in any time. You can make a shitty game in 10 minutes, so what.
No one talked about the Among US X-Rated Game Title.

TECHNOBLADE NEVER DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
It still is possible, just don't give yourself a time limit. Unless you're in a game jam or in a Triple-A studio, there's no reason to.
For 3 years there is not many changed in the sense of progress of your skills didn't it? It's the same 2D platformers, lazy, secondarily, cliche, boring. Where is pushing boundaries? Achieving? Work with a team? Ideas? I guess YouTube videos and game jams became so comfortable for you, because you unable to create actually big and thoughtful projects. Cowardly hiding behind comfort of making mediocre games and plushy toys. Are you sure programming is your passion? Is this why you program? Maybe you can learn C++ by book already and make an actual game you can sell and be proud of? Or maybe don't care about the code and just make the game?
RPGMaker games sometimes have deeper meaning and stories than a jumping frog on a time limit. What is the point of doing that over and over again? You have YouTube support and views. People would literally sell their soul to be sponsored by creating journals of their development. You can hire people for your project, commercialize it and sell and all you need is to talk with writers, and musicians. But you program past midnight for a frog?
I want you to prove me wrong. Honestly I do. I want to see you at least trying and documenting your journey, if you would just make that video enjoyable in a way of witnessing your actual progress in creating games. But that would mean you need to get away from your comfort zone.
but what was now the illegal part?
I like how for staging the timer going off it’s very clear that you just set it for six seconds lmao
