Time to iterate and repair the flaws in our first battlecruiser design, or at least the flaws according to the crusty old Admirals in the design department. We also get to finally do some combat testing of our ships as the long awaited war against China begins.

The 1st blood with the BC and DD showed promise for the bigger Fleet VRS Fleet due up. Will be very much a test of the early IJN designs and the crews. Looking forward to it.
Question: Given the Mod is balancing as well as creating a more vanilla type experience, was the battle as you envisioned the Mod behaving?
It seems like thw long nose has returned once again lol
Alternative Title: Japan’s Yorick
You could probably get more out of the BC since the 7inch guns are running with nearly 10 inches of armour on them
I see you have mostly learned to keep your distance a bit when attacking transports with a destroyer. 🙂
Russian Ai really did you dirty by going for southern Sakhalin last episode.
This shows the core of UAD is a good game, it's just crippled by poor balance decisions by the developers. Remove mines and submarines, and you spend more time designing and fighting, less pointless clicking. Make sensible balance decisions, and even a battle you're supposed to win with a BC vs a pre-dreadnaught posed a fun challenge, having to make sound tactical decisions to keep your ship from being badly damaged or sunk.
Damn that Washington naval treaty
@Brothermonro I've always liked using pitcrate. Because if you're running around screaming because you or your ship is on fire. That kinda makes it hard to shoot back.😂
When you get Mk3 16 inch guns (and have a BB with them), can you make the Amagi-Class Battlecrusier with a main armament of 5×2 16 inchers?
You ought should try my battleship/dreadnought but it’s old like 1912 for British Campaign
That thing has 18 15” guns because it wiped and the battles the enemies has but it has poor armor but I spiced it up with lengthened gun barrels it became a Anti-Battleship
But ONLY original version
Are the growth rates working as designed? How is the US getting like 11% growth lmao?
Is there a reason your not selling capital ships to minors this time around? I know your last campaign was Artisan so was wondering if you had put any restrictions this time that i missed.
Im will build that bc 3 with pre-kongo class or like hms tiger
Chinese BB is a literal metal brick with guns. Hahaha
25:29: Oh my giddy maiden aunt it's a Badespielzeug für Kinder with a 360 degree aft main turret.
25:46: Oh no! The Jiyuan class has 3.2" gun turrets mounted on top of the 6.1" gun turrets, including a Q turret with the twin 6.1" guns. How do you move ammunition into the upper turret?
39:48: "Losses for the Kita were 161 officers and men killed or seriously wounded though ten of them were treated and returned to duty." I'm only able to add the last ten words when you show that pop-up box.
Port Strike as Invasion Landings Begin
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 15 December 1911
The Daini Kantai, consisting of the three refitted Kankō class battleships, Kankō, Sōryū, and Kanrin, the five refitted Azuma class armoured crusiers Azuma, Myōkō, Kannon, Yumiori, and Kumano, and the five Kitakami class protected cruisers, the Kitakami, Nagara, Naka, Suzuya, and Soya, found the port of Bintulu unguarded with seven transports at anchor. Moving in, they were able to sink two of the transports and do minor damage on the port before withdrawing to their blockading stations.
United Kingdom Allies with Nippon
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 4 December 1911
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland has allied with the Empire of Japan. Pushed by the First Lord of the Admiralty, the civilian head of the Royal Navy, this alliance will provide mutual support for operations in the Pacific theatre.
The First Capital Ship Engagement of the 20th Century
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 11 November 1911
The Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun has not seen a capital ship engagement with an enemy yet in the 20th century, until now. The Dai-ichi Kantai Arakawa-Naka class battlecruiser Kita and the destroyer Asanagi, lead of her class, were operating deep in Chinese waters in the Yellow Sea when the spotted funnel smoke of many ships coming out of Haichow. They immediately moved in to identify the ships and if enemies, attack them.
With the night clear and bright the two ships closed on the smoke of two ships approaching them, clearly two escorts for a larger convoy. When they were sighted the Chinese Sarhuda class pre-Fusō battleship Pak and the outlandish Jiyuan class armored cruiser Fuijian presented an awful sight. Their 10.2”/39 and 10”/40 guns were barely able to range on the Kita, and weren’t able to hit the Asanagi. However seeing her shells bouncing off the armor of the Pak Kita directed her fire on Fuijian until the cruiser was dead in the water though still afloat. Kita then turned her guns on Pak, firing at range with the Pak trying to close, while ordering Asanagi to close on Fuijian and attempt to torpedo her. Asanagi got close and launched her spread. Of her two torpedoes one exploded early but the one on target went straight in, hitting the Fuijian and sinking her with 1085 of her 1219 man crew.
Asanagi broke off and continued her search for the transports while Kita closed on Pak to engage her with high explosive shells. With Kita close Pak turned to bring both her 10.2” twin turrets to bear. This however allowed Kita to switch to armor piercing shells and get the critical flooding hit that sank the Pak with 1276 of her 1306 man crew.
With the escorts sunk Kita and Asanagi closed on the convoy smoke. Asanagi found the tail of the convoy consisting of thirteen Foshan class 15 thousand ton 65 manned two single 3.3”/32 armed transports and turned to open her broadside. The Hangzhou sank first, going down with 60 of her 65 man crew. Yun-Ti was second and also sank from rising waters losing 60 men. Ertang and Tangshan surrendered as Kita came up to join the shelling. Hongqihegou surrendered as well and then Altay as the Japanese raiders worked their way up the convoy. Chang Ling surrendered next.
Luan surrendered as dawn began to break over the sea, then Xingtai. With four ships left the next to surrender was Erentei. Then the convoy leader Foshan sank with all but one of her crew killed. Gough also sank but with three survivors. And finally Huolu surrendered after losing 29 men. In total the Chinese Merchant Marine lost 194 thousand tons of shipping, 503 officers and seamen killed and 342 rescued as the day broke of the oily water. The Republic of China Navy lost a total of 2361 officers and sailors killed with 164 captured.
Losses for the Kita were 161 officers and men killed or seriously wounded though ten of them were treated and returned to duty. The Asanagi took 5 casualties as she engaged the Xingtai and Huolu.
A Faultless Battlecruiser
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 22 October 1910
The Kaigun Kensetsu-Kyoku of the Kaigun-shō has announced the specifications for an improved battlecruiser for the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun. This class corrects all the weaknesses of the Arakawa-Naka class while maintaining the target speed of 28 knots.
The Norikura class will consist of two ships, the Norikura and the Shiomi, to be built out of Sasebo in the Nagasaki Prefecture on Kyūshū. Designed to a target displacement of 30,000 tons and a top speed of 28 knots, the class will use the turbine engines powered by steam from naturally aspirated boilers burning coal or oil vented through two funnels. They generate a total of 79,288 indicated horse power to turn three screws to obtain the required 28 knot speed with a range of 9700 nautical miles on a final displacement of 29,681 tons. Hydraulic power turns the balanced rudder.
The main armament is four twin 12”/40 mark 3 gun turrets of 827 tons with 90 man crews mounted on the centerline, two forward with the second turret on an elevated barbette super firing over the first, and two mounted aft also with a super firing turret. These fire a balanced magazine of standard sized base fuze high explosive shells and armor piercing capped shells using the improved medium burn Cordite as the propellant, far less likely to flash fire if not as energetic in propelling the shells, and TNT as the bursting charge. The turrets have improved anti-flash fire protection systems and electro-hydraulic turning engines. The guns have enhanced reloading systems. The 411 kg HE shells range to 18.2 km and the 663 kg AP shells to 21.5 km. The guns are aimed by improved coincidence range finders.
As a secondary the class carries eighteen 92 ton 7”/45 Mark 3 casemate gun mounts with 16 man crews nine per side. Their 75 kg HE shells have a range of 12.5 km and their 120 kg AP shells of 13.7 km. The lack of a 7” gun on the Arakawa-Naka class is considered one of their gravest weaknesses.
The class also carries ten casemate 3”/40 mark 4 guns mounted in the super structure.
The ship has standard compartmentation with reinforced bulkheads, a double bottom hull, anti-torpedo protection, and anti-flooding systems. Armor is the newest Krupp formulation using 1% chromium to alloy the steel and improve cementation. It is 12” thick on the main belt, an increased 6” thick on the extended belts, and 1.5” thick on the inner belt. The man deck is 3” thick and the extended decks and inner deck are 1.5” thick. The superstructure has 1.5” of armor and the conning tower 14”. The 12” turrets have 14” of face and barbette armor and 4” of top armor. The 7” casemate guns have 9.3” of face and 3.4” of top armor and the 3” casemates have 4.8” of face armor and 3.4” of top armor.
The class carries a crew of 1577 officers and enlisted men under the command of the Kaigun-taisa. Each ship costs $185 million and will take 20 months to complete with a commissioning time of three months at least. Estimated monthly maintenance in port is $7.8 million. After their shakedown cruise, if the active naval conflict with the Republic of China is still ongoing, these two ships will end it.
A Just Cause
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 16 October 1911
The Republic of China has declared war on the Empire of Japan. Naturally the bulk of the world opinion supports Nippon, including the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the République Française, the United States of America, the Regno d'Italia, the Dual Monarchy of Austria and Hungary, and the Reino de España
The Republic of China has the support of the Soviet Union, which certainly indicates that the Russian Communist Party is more concerned with their territories in the east then in recovering their capitals in the west and the enormous Siberian province controlled by China. The Republic also enjoys the support of the Deutsches Kaiserreich.
The Dai-gensui-riku-kai-gun-taishō of the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun assures the Nation that our navy is ready and able to defeat the Republic of China Navy as it currently has only four battleships and four armored cruisers.
The Daini Kantai, the reserve fleet of the Kankō battleships and the Azuma armored cruisers refitted in 1910, and the Kitakami class protected cruisers will be sent to the province of Sarawak to liberate it from Chinese Republican oppression, securing the ports of Kuching and Bintulu.
China Demands Concessions
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 4 October 1911
In a country as unstable as the Republic of China, with large new territories it has taken off the former Russian Empire being plundered by their corrupt governors, it is no surprise that any honest politician would end up being assassinated.
Why then does the government in Beijing accuse the Empire of Japan of this assassination and demand monetary payments and the return of Liaodong province and the Kiautschou Bay leasehold? This is totally inexplicable. Of course the government in Tokyo has strongly denied any involvement.
Refit of the late 1890’s builds
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 8 April 1910
The Kaigun Kensetsu-Kyoku of the Kaigun-shō has announced the refits of the battleships and armored cruisers of the Kankō, and Azuma classes.
All ships will have their engine plants replaced with turbines and have auxiliary petrol engines installed. The guns and turrets will be upgraded to the latest marks and the turrets given electro-hydraulic turning engines and the newest flash fire protection systems. Shells will have Cordite propellant and TNT bursting charges.
All ships will be reclade with Krupp armor to the same thickness. Anti-torpedo bulges have been increased in depth and anti-flooding strengthened. Advanced radios are added and the range finders improved to the latest coincidence models.
The Kankō class battleships will take two months to refit, as will the five Azuma class armored cruisers.
There is no apparent refit path for the Kitakami class protected cruisers as the Mark 4 3” gun turrets are far too large for the hard points on the ship hull.
The Shimakaze class of destroyers have been mothballed and offered for sale to our generous allies.
Peace with Germany!
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 17 January 1910
The forty-one month long war with Germany has ended. After the government in Berlin accused the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun of causing ‘incidents’ while at sea training a war broke out. The government in Tokyo made their aims clear; since the war started over ‘incidents’ around the German possessions in the Pacific the surest way of avoiding a repeat of the conflict would be to liberate all the German possessions in the Pacific, including their leasehold on the Chinese Mainland at Tsingtao.
The Ultimate Victory
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 12 December 1909
Western Samoa has fallen to the Empire of Japan. The last possession of the Deutsches Kaiserreich in the Eastern Hemisphere is now under our benevolent governance. The Naval Infantry and the Dai-ichi Kantai of the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun led by the battleship Fusō have taken Pago Pago.
Invasion of the Marshall Islands a Success
Yomiuri shinbun, Tokyo, 10 September 1909
The Empire of Japan has achieved its penultimate war aim against the Deutsches Kaiserreich, driving the Germans out of the Pacific with the exception of Western Samoa. The Naval Infantry of the Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun and the Dai-ichi Kantai led by the battleship Fusō have taken the Marshall Islands and the ports of Kwajalein and Majuro. The fleet and Naval Infantry are now moving to invest Pago Pago.
Obligatory request for a 6×2 12" armed ship seeinc how much deck space you had left over.
U could of made a fuso class with all that room on the battle cruiser 5×2 12 inch or 14inch lol
