I Held an Awards Show for the Thomas and Friends Community | The Steamy Awards

It’s finally…FINALLY here…after MONTHS of work…and nine hours AFTER I wanted to get this video out…it’s here.

I felt really disappointed that I didn’t get this out on New Years Eve…not for a lack of trying, mind you…but then I saw a comment on the post saying that this would be late…and it read ‘It’s never too late for a good video.’

To the person who commented that…to the people who’ve been waiting patiently for this…and to everyone who helped make this happen…this goes out to all of you. Thank you.

  1. OH BOY… this video's reception is a trainwreck of good and bad. I keep noticing the comments stating lack of permission – which is very important – and the controversy behind many of the nominees; I may not know all the drama behind a lot of them (and I think it'd be wise of myself to stay out of it) but I think this video became a spark to the gunpowder barrel that was the Thomas fandom.
I myself thought that this video was interesting, seeing all of these incredible pieces of work that people from everywhere put their efforts into. It is important to obtain permission for using these clips, that I do agree. However, on the topic of controversy: rather than watching everyone wage war on each other on how messed up a certain content creator is, I prefer to enjoy the content itself.
Ay… quite a great shame that a lot of the fandom is bashing you for a couple of crucial mistakes on such a hard-crafted video, but there's always the opportunity to learn from these experiences. I do like your content, and I hope that if you ever hold the Steamy Awards again next year, these lessons to be learned from are taken into consideration.

  2. I have noticed that the Youtube side likes this idea and people on Twitter are angry. Of course, we know people on Twitter are always arguing about everything but I can kind of see their point, that you just re-used content from other creators without permission and ranting about it in some cases.

Even though it's about awards and that is in a positive way 90% of the time and I don't agree with all Twitter takes I have to agree with The Blue Snowplow. He really feels like his series about Hawin Lake has just been painted in a bad light here and considering all of the negative things about part IV got shoved forward in the review and the positive things are almost completely absent, its totally justified.

While I understand asking permission from around 60 different creators including creator that don't upload anymore would be almost impossible, maybe some credits in the description would have been nice and maybe give them a little heads up. With all of that said its still very clear a lot of effort went into this video and I found it a great watch

  3. fantastic video to start 2023, hoped to see some other creators that werent mentioned but there are so many talented people it is nearly impossible to include everyone, congrats to the obvious winner being unluckytug nontheless
just a shame some is making a fuss over this video instead of taking it as a compliment

  4. The Thomas Fandom Is An Incredibly Important Place To Me, Considering My Younger Brother Parker Was A HUGE Fan Up Until He Passed Away In April Of 2020. So Returning To The Fandom, Seeing All The Creative Things Everybody Does, Is Genuinely More Than I Could Ever Ask For. So Thank You So Much For Highlighting Some Of The Best Creators In The Fandom Man.

  5. Safe to say they won't be a "Steamy Awards" for next year, not that anyone will miss this given twitter's reaction to this =/ All in all you had good intentions, but this was a bad idea and is very bias

  6. Welcome back to where Twitter has led me to today

I think the words “in my opinion” sum up why this video failed. This feels like YOUR awards ceremony, not OUR awards ceremony.

You say that you stopped community polling because The Unlucky Tug won too many but, you’re still the creator of the video/event. So, you get to choose the nominees. Why didn’t you just add The Unlucky Tug in one or two of the categories and then used the extra space for smaller creators that deserved the promotion?

  7. Just an amazing video about the beauty of the countless contributions and collaborations by the many very talented and downright awesome users in this community. Many got the love and appreciation they deserved, and this video and all work showcased and celebrated in it inspires me to continue making videos in a time I was beginning to lose motivation, so thank you for that. Amazing work man, can’t wait to see what you and this whole fandom do next 🙂 also where can I find that “Sodor without Edward”? I tried looking for it but couldn’t find it

  8. Okay I'm going to try and be civil with this

Your main flaw here is that you went too hard, and you've contradicted yourself multiple times

You said you couldn't get permission and inform everybody in the video, and yet you were able to inform most if not all of the winners that they won you could have at least gotten permission from everyone else whilst you were at it

Some people didn't want to be in this video and that's fair especially considering you didn't even talk about them and just use their clips for bad examples or good examples

It's clear that you were biased in this as well, I get that unlucky tug was winning everything but then you probably should have just taken him out of the polls, tanzig shouldn't have won and that seems to be something a majority of the fanbase agrees on, especially considering what you stated about it versus The Railway Series, be real with me here if this wasn't a trainz series would you have picked it? Would this series still hold up if it was in Wooden Railway?

The majority of the winners were trainz users or makes model trains, you kind of ditched to everyone else

I believe you can improve, everyone can this. This video was a misstep and now everybody's shown how they don't like being included in videos without being told especially in something like this or you're trying to say what is the best of _ thing.

I get that in the beginning you did state that this was going to be biased but it shouldn't be biased to this degree when you're trying to be objective

  9. So apparently there's a lot of drama surrounding this video, but I honestly enjoyed it. It also was in production for a very long time so while some mistakes were made, I think it still turned out great.

  10. you should have a category on the best horror story in the fandom for the next one. There are so many creators who have a following mostly due to their ttte horror stories, like shunter productions, rheneas productions, narrow gauge and his horrors of the rails, 22tesla and his tales from the scrap sidings along with creators that are already mentioned here like carson's workshop and the blue snowplow

  11. For anyone confused about the controversy around this video:
The confusion and frustration about this video are for several reasons. Play don't pause didn't ask for permission of all the channels he featured in this video to put their videos in his one. He also seems very critical of their videos unnecessarily harsh on some, but he is trying to be fair. I don't see how he could have done it better, but if so, ranting and yelling is not the way to fix it. Staying neutral is always a good idea in a situation like this. Don't bash him on twitter or say bad things about him online. Constructive criticism is the way to go. We can all agree that there are good and bad things in this video, so what should one do? Stay Neutral.

I completley understand the flaws of this video, but I guess the viewpoints of the viewer decide. If you're a pessimist you'll see the people who dislike the fact that the video was made poorly without asking for others permissions. If you're an optimist, you'll see the amount of people who put work into this video to get it recognized and made easy for others to see. I myself found several new pieces of Thomas fan content and channels from this video, they all have my subs now. The Thomas fandom has always been about coming together to be part of a community with a unanimous love for steam trains, not constant controversy that wears everyone down. This is an example of the latter. If it makes you mad, just don't associate with it. This is the internet, you can click off to something you like instead. What I have noticed is that most larger creators who have either gotten their work in this video featured or are close to that status agree that the video is mostly well made and does what I have mentioned is the point of the Thomas fandom, while smaller channels, mostly just people who view content and don't create (most likely younger members of this fandom) are the ones jumping on each other's bandwagons in saying that this video sucks and it is unfair. Once again, probably the best thing to do in this situation is stay neutral, and AVOID TWITTER COMPLETLEY.

What happened there was a summary of this whole video, a shamble and a mess, insulting other people's content, and then going on to say that you didn't ask for permission and giving awards to creators such as Percy and the Beast Productions, best editor awards when the content they used wasn't their own

What else can I say you may have butchered the entire Thomas community with this, and I do expect a full apology video towards the content of others that you stole without permission, insulting them, and downplaying some of their work, but at times the Rev W Awdry's as well.

I expect you to do better, but I'm not convinced you can.

  14. So I earlier I noticed this video got backlash on Twitter when I was on a vc with some friends
(I'm SO sorry if bringing up drama isn't aloud in comments here)
But I really liked this! The amount of creators that I recognized, the amount of content you talked about which I never expected to

    Just wow.
This deserves a steamy award am i right?

Ha. I'm bad at making jokes

  15. Didn't think I'd enjoy something like this as much as I did, but it certainly had me hooked! I agreed with a lot of your choices and found a lot of new content to check out, too. I'd love to hear your thoughts on FlyingPringle's Good Old Days too; I was surprised that that didn't end up in the video too!

Excellent work! I hope you make these an annual thing. ^_^
