  1. If this was released as a modern port with a "fast forward" feature, that would honestly be a big bandaid on the aged "sluggish and grindy" nature of the game.
Otherwise, its a great rpg. As someone who discovered this game AFTER he played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue, this was favorite of mine growing up. And to find out the DS games adopted a similar type of battle system made me even more happy to play those games.

I know people say Digimon World 3 was the better rpg, but this one was just so fun playing while growing up.

  2. That's the thing about monospaced text – its kerning is terrible!
SCSI is a hard disk connection standard now superseded by SAS. It's typically pronounced "scuzzy".

  3. Like other comments, yeah, this is definitely one of my favorite Digimon games, even though it has its issues. It gets hard to discern where you need to go at times 😅

  4. Also, passing right when you said you're going into this totally blind, maybe reading a digital version of the booklet that came with the game might help out a bit more when it comes to some nuances of the game 🤔

  5. You can add filtering and increase the resolution scale in PCSX2 btw, if your pc can handle it.
Makes the player models and environment look a lot better.
There should be an option that works on text too.

  6. One of my favorite Digimon games to this day from childhood, and got to known my true partner Patamon… It's grindy but I love recruiting Digimon and creating a team of my own with my partner. I wish for a remaster or a remake of this classic Digimon game…😌

  7. Some tips that aren't necessarily explained:
    – You can use items to heal etc in battle with the "Cannon" command. You could have beaten the Tapirmon if you had healed.
    – You can buy gifts from one of the stores in your guild, which you can use while outside of battle to increase the chances of digimon joining your team after battle. More gifts = higher chance. There are generic gifts that work for all types but arent very effective, and your guild will sell more potent gifts for the type of digimon they specialize in (virus/vaccine / or data). If you dont give a single gift there is no chance it will join.
    – Moving in the world takes EP, 1 per square moved. Every time you move other digimon in the same field as you get an opportunity to move too, same if you use an item outside of battle such as gifts.
    – Never let your EP or HP of the digi beetle reach 0, rather leave the domain early from the menu. There are penalties if the beetle breaks down
    – You can upgrade your digi-beetle to have better treads, engine, item cannon, etc from one of the NPC's. Can't remember if they were in the guild or by the Main Gate. Your options expand as you get through the story.
    – You have to save manually from the menu. There are no autosaves.
    – The trading center cycles through different trades depending on how far you are in the story, usually targeting a digimon you are able to recruit. Trades are almost always worth it as they are often a higher level or rank (eg: trading a rookie for a champion). Speak to the guy again after his introduction to see what trades are current.
    – Every digimon has a maximum level it can reach. To increase this, wait until your digimon cannot level any further then DNA-Digivolve it with another digimon that is also at it's max level. There is a formula to calculate the new max level but you will always get the best return from using 2 digimon that are as high as they can be.

  8. I want a new digimon world type game but an mmo style. Many players in the world and have a simple story that grows as the years pass. Players could interact and digimon could too. Would love to see my gomamon talking with an agumon.

  9. My favorite digimon game, largely due to nostalgia but damn does it hold a special place in my heart.

Also Leomon's attack sounded like hadouken because beast king fist translated is Juouken.

  10. Ok, they may look like the super archetypal "power is everything" Slytherin style team, but the Dark Swords have DemiDevimon just flying around in their entrance hall like a mascot, and depending on evolution path he's always been one of my absolute favorite Rookie Digimon.
Mostly because he generally can digivolve into Devimon, which is cool, or Wizarmon whom is my all-time favorite Digimon.

  11. Pkmn has had trouble programming their games ever since the guy who made gold n silver died he was a genius n helped them put info/data super compressed n usable but ever since he died they can’t do what he did even though they make billions n can make it happen but choose not to waste the money on ppl who can help. Instead they want to over work their programmers n then blame them for a crappy/buggy/glitchy game.

    🤦🏽

  12. This game is a dungeon crawler like Mystery Dungeon so I guess you could use that as a reference, but trust me, you're not ready for this game. The words I'd use to describe it are Grind and Chaos, I wouldn't even consider trying to beat it without at the very least a Fast Forward button :v

People complain that Story games are grindy, but that's because they don't know how to get around it. You have to know what you're up against and plan ahead cause the evolution system in the game is messed up. They'll have you grinding for Digimon you're not even gonna use.

Base idea for the game is good but the evolution system and level caps just drag this game down. Also you gotta grind for money, like a lot of money.

This game had some compatibility with some other japan-only digimon games that could lessen the grind, but that's just missed here since those games required the PocketStation to be played, so they never even had a chance of being localized.

There's also a tweaked version of the game made by fans, but I don't know how much it improves the gameplay loop. And the reason Leomon sounds like he's screaming Hadouken is because the game still uses the japanese voice acting despite having dub names in it. The move is called Juuouken in japanese, which translates to the same thing they went with in the dub for once :v

  13. glad your finally getting the chance to play this game, amazing game over all, would be cool to see it with the patch (adds some digi's and fixes some move names and animations) but so glad you got the chance to play it and hopefully others will learn of this game and give it a play thru themselves 9/10 game imo

  14. Dude, you are in for a grind. I absolutely love Digimon world 2 but that doesn't mean I don't see its many many flaws, the dungeons are uninspired some models look janky and there are a few bugs that if encountered are game breaking, the DP system is cool but it requires way too much grinding due to only being able to level once per battle even if you gain more exp than would be needed to level up twice you will still have to do another battle even though your exp to next level is zero. Digimon world 2 is actually what inspired the Digimon Story series and I won't lie I put hundreds of hours into the game, I might even be close to 1000 hours or more.

  15. Worst Digimon game. It's a repetitive dungeon crawler that requires you to constantly buy items to avoid traps, traps which drain 2 types of either limited energy that runs your tanks as you try to befriend new mons via RNG. It's also grindy and slow. World 3 was a step in the right direction but it drops the triple team for a pokemon-style 1v1 that's almost as slow

  16. Before you play 3 remember to save frequently too. The game also Game Overs if you lose a battle, and you can sometimes wander into areas with Digimon you werent supposed to face until hours later.
