Graeme, I have a question if you would be so kind? We often see the cows eating what looks like chopped up soggy hay. If I think of horses eating hay it doesn't look like this. What exactly are they eating? Thanks

Greetings from the coalfields of Southwest Virginia, USA. You're a braver man than me. There's no way I would've used a quality hoof knife to pry out that nail. They're too hard to sharpen, and just too expensive to use as pry bars. That's just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. Take care, and keep up the good work.
I empathize with this good lady far too much for my liking 😅 stepped on a tiny bit of metal barefoot this morning 😭 in the house! No idea what it came from. Farmers/ranchers do what they can but they're only human 💛 and if little bits like what I stepped on can mysteriously show up in a house, screws & nails definitely will show up where you don't want them on a farm
Anyone else find that after watching hoof GP videos for so long, when other hoof trimmers pop up, you can't watch their videos because the camera angles, commentary, and even how they trim, just seems so wrong? Even though their doing a good job, everything just seems not right 😂

When I was lil I stepped on 3 rusted nails & my mom made a smiley face on the bottom of my foot

Question: can you not simply glue the wooden blocks on all the hooves – at an appropriate time, when all the hooves are healthy and grown – and just replace them as necessary as they wear down? Would that not solve many problems, such as what we are seeing here?
There was a string hanging off my knee once, when I pulled on it a sowing needle came out of my knee. The whole needle was stuck into the knee joint. Didn't hurt at all. Hope the cow has the same luck.

Anyone who acts like cows getting nails and such in their hooves is just carelessness by the farmers have obviously never been to a farm. There's just no way to keep every tiny bit of metal off the ground even if you went over every inch of pasture with a magnet every day.
better to see 500 done and gone to have to see one poor cow with immense pain. Good thing there are talented and trained people like HJP to help

Oh that poor cow! I had a teeny tiny piece of glass stuck in my foot for a few days recently and I was in agony! I can’t imagine the pain that huge nail caused. You are a godsend to these cows 🐮 🫶
Could you imagine being an animal and getting a nail in your hoof, paw, or other part of your body? You aren't able to take it out & it just continuously causes pain?! Or any animal that gets hurt or trapped or stuck in something or on something we humans make?!? It's our responsibility to minimize those things as much as possible & when we (all of us) see an animal in distress it's our duty, our responsibility to help.
