I flew solo across Australia in a day

OVER THE TOP EP1 – Flying a single engine small plane across Australia in a day. From Melbourne to the top of the Northern Territory, watch the flights, see inside the cockpit, hear my radio calls and watch how I navigate over 1,500 miles across this continent.

Aircraft is a Cirrus SR22 VH-EYZ flying from Moorabbin Airport to Leigh Creek, Tenant Creek, Katherine (Tindal) Airport and finally into Darwin.

  1. This is amazing and it’s only just started. 😍 I’ve flown my Beechcraft across the Canada-U.S.A. border. It’s always an interesting experience.

My plane’s comedy fuel gauges mean a dipstick and fuel log are crucial…

  2. It was so cool to see EYZ outside Australian airspace. You make the most amazing videos and thank you so much for sharing them with us!
You really have inspired me to get my PPL after by PhD

  3. I wonder, we never saw Jackie join you in one of your GA trips. Is this because it is your thing or because she thinks it is utter madness to fly in a sit in a glorified tincan a few thousand feet AGL?

  4. Wonderful adventure, Stefan!

You gave us a view of your refueling along the way. Wondering about oil burn: how often and how much oil did you add during the flight? Looking forward to the next episode!

  5. At 6:35 I went straight to the comments to see if Jacqui has commented on you acknowledging her rightness.
Wow! That Tennent Creek terminal building newspaper clipping was all about the Lockheed Hudson VH-AGE that crashed there. It used to operate aerial survey for Adastra Aerial Survey's. My dad flew the Hudson for them when that happened – 1966. They were doing a test flight and took the local kid (pictured) up for a ride. An engine failed and for unknown reasons the pilot did a single engine go around on his return, the Hudson rolled over and in they went. So sad. A memorial was placed there in 2016 to mark 50 years as many of the boys family and locals are still there and were involved in recovery. The Hudson is notorious for challenging single engine low speed handling. Opposite rudder on full power with a critical engine failure is 200lbs or 90kg of force on the pedal to keep it straight.
    Great flight Stef.
