OVER THE TOP EP1 – Flying a single engine small plane across Australia in a day. From Melbourne to the top of the Northern Territory, watch the flights, see inside the cockpit, hear my radio calls and watch how I navigate over 1,500 miles across this continent.
Aircraft is a Cirrus SR22 VH-EYZ flying from Moorabbin Airport to Leigh Creek, Tenant Creek, Katherine (Tindal) Airport and finally into Darwin.

What app do yo use for checklists on the iPad?
This is amazing and it’s only just started. 😍 I’ve flown my Beechcraft across the Canada-U.S.A. border. It’s always an interesting experience.
My plane’s comedy fuel gauges mean a dipstick and fuel log are crucial…
Imagine what it would be like if you had to put down in the desert, I have done it. Please follow roads. Go to ifollowroadsCyrusThomas episode 1
Great video! Can’t wait for part two! Congrats!❤
Love it, been waiting for your first international flight for a while, as have you! Is this the beginning of the big un?
Awesome video. Surprised you didn’t gush over that new avionics while on the way. We want to see more of it!
Are you using checklists in it? Lean assist?
👌👌👌
👍☑
Thanks for taking us along Stef! That was super cool
How much lead juice did it swallow to do that trip?
Bit surprised that the plane can't balance the tanks on its own.
Ripper Stef….are you heading on to Java?
Epic day for you & EYZ. Did the new avionics package make that day any "easier" than it would have been with the original layout?
is "<blank> watch" similar to your "flight following?"
Inspriing video Stef. You've helped reignite my interest in aviation and travel. Keep it up
It was so cool to see EYZ outside Australian airspace. You make the most amazing videos and thank you so much for sharing them with us!
You really have inspired me to get my PPL after by PhD
I wonder if this is the start of RTW? 🙂
Glued to near 20 mins of a chap just doing what he loves. Spoiler alert, the fuel tank change is epic 😂 jokes aside, love your channel man, makes me want to learn how to fly.
I wonder, we never saw Jackie join you in one of your GA trips. Is this because it is your thing or because she thinks it is utter madness to fly in a sit in a glorified tincan a few thousand feet AGL?
Wonderful adventure, Stefan!
You gave us a view of your refueling along the way. Wondering about oil burn: how often and how much oil did you add during the flight? Looking forward to the next episode!
Awesome video Stef. I love your content. Keep it up
Great video, looking forward to your next part of the journey. Glad to see you had the company of milkshake,on your travels.
Happy flight mate. stay safe .
You just got a new subscriber mate, awesome content
At 6:35 I went straight to the comments to see if Jacqui has commented on you acknowledging her rightness.
Wow! That Tennent Creek terminal building newspaper clipping was all about the Lockheed Hudson VH-AGE that crashed there. It used to operate aerial survey for Adastra Aerial Survey's. My dad flew the Hudson for them when that happened – 1966. They were doing a test flight and took the local kid (pictured) up for a ride. An engine failed and for unknown reasons the pilot did a single engine go around on his return, the Hudson rolled over and in they went. So sad. A memorial was placed there in 2016 to mark 50 years as many of the boys family and locals are still there and were involved in recovery. The Hudson is notorious for challenging single engine low speed handling. Opposite rudder on full power with a critical engine failure is 200lbs or 90kg of force on the pedal to keep it straight.
Great flight Stef.
Wonderful trip pictures. Good luck on your international flight. Enjoy your commentary. You should’ve take Nikko!
You had definitely inspired me Stefan getting my PPL and flying around Australia.
Godspeed on your journey!!
Excited ‼️👍
Really enjoyed watching this one mate. Must have been very tired by the time you got to Darwin. Thanks Stef
Great video. You deserve more followers. It's the American YT algorithm is all suited to Americans. YT needs to push you over there. so much better then a lot of them
Great video Stef! Thanks for making such great content.
That dodgy Cirrus nosewheel gives me heart failure every time I see it hit the ground. Of course it must be fine, but it looks terrible!
Fantastic video Stefan, never flown MEL/DRW before so was interesting to see the Murray as well as the Creeks (Leigh and Tennant) – places us mere pax are unlikely to fly into. Waiting for Ep 2 now 😀
0230hrs? Night?
Can't wait for the next one Stef!
Thanks so much for this video Stef. Just amazing all round, really enjoyed it!
Absolutely awesome content Stef! Can’t wait to see the next video.
And good on you for acknowledging that your wife was right!
Posters about a fatal plane crash at an airport lol.
Hey Stef! There will be Jakarta Aerofest from 28-30 October 2022 at Pondok Cabe (PCB), come by if you were available! (Or Near Jakarta for sure) Its General Aviation Airshow
Nice to see EYZ back in the air. Keep up the great work
Brilliant videos as usual, is there any chance plotting the whole route, would love to fly in MSFS.
I have flown long distance in my Rockwell Commander in Europe. Now I can’t fly lost my medical. I am in UK
