‘I dressed Diana and Kate Middleton is her perfect fashion heir’ | Palace Confidential

The new Princess of Wales is making a series of ‘subtle tributes’ to Princess Diana in her choice of outfits, that’s the view of a leading royal fashion designer. Amanda Wakeley, who has dressed many royals, including both Diana and Catherine, believes that the latter’s skill is ‘owning’ her look.

‘The suit that she wore to the Trooping the Colour this summer, honestly that could have been out of Diana’s wardrobe,’ she tells a special fashion episode of Palace Confidential. ‘She owns it as hers, it’s not a pastiche of how Diana would have worn it, she’s owning her look which is a wonderful look. I love those subtle tributes to her mother-in-law.’

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English discusses the Princess of Wales evolution from Kate Middleton to the Princess of Wales, which culminated, she believes, at this year’s Coronation.

‘For me, there was a real – on a fashion level – stop in your tracks moment at the Coronation, when she got into Westminster Abbey,’ she tells the show. ‘She just looked like a Queen in waiting to me. It was so elegant, so polished, so regal I thought “she’s got it”.’

The pair also discuss Camilla’s fashion journey to the Queen, how the King is adapting to his ‘grandfather-of-the-nation’ role style-wise and the Duchess of Sussexes claims about stifling royal clothing protocols.

  1. It’s amazing that with so much money MeAgain can consistently choose outfits that look bad on her! Also with her hair down with no style, she looks messy. I think her inner ugliness comes through.

  2. I believe they have stepped up their A game! Love the fashions they are displaying.
As for Meghan, there is an interview with her about her clothing while she was on Suits, she herself expressed her muted colors, bland and cream tones. So this was her personal choice before becoming a royal wanna be. Sorry not a fan of MM.

  3. So Meagain said she felt restricted to neutrals during her time as a royal but almost all her outfits have been beige, brown, white…NEUTRALS! Her style is not Chic but rather oversized, too tight and just plain MESSY!

  4. The look Harry is giving William @13:50 is utterly blank, but chilling nonetheless.
"Meghan is used to walking the Red Carpet?" When? For what? Nobody here in the States had ever heard of her & actually, quite a few still haven't. She was never an actress.

  5. Kate’s goodness shines through. You can tell she’s a sweet and kind soul. MeAgain lacks any goodness. She never reflects any goodness because she has none. She always looks off.

  6. Jo did her best to stir the pot bringing in a discussion about HW and they soldiered on gamely for awhile, but switched over to Princess Catherine so abruptly (18:35) that the YT title writer became confused. Although I don't care for her, I wasn't offended that they discussed MM because the awkwardness of the discussion was quite amusing!

    Denn Designersachen, ohne eigene Note,
sehen auch nur wie jeder Fummel aus. Das sieht man bei so manchen Hollywood – Stars. Wo es oft mehr ums Aufallen, als um Eleganz geht.

  8. I never followed the royals but became a complete fan after the H&M debacle. I adore Catherine and her genuine behaviour. She truly came into her own in the last few years. I confess, I do also closely watch the Montecito train wreck… it’s hard to look away from this debacle and I honestly want them to get their just due. They brought so much meanness into the game, especially Meghan.

  9. C'mon! Megs in that gold strapless number the night of the NYC car chase!
(😆😂) That dress looked like it was made out of Granny's quilted house coat!
Plus, it made her look like a 5th Ave Street Walker or an Escort!
Bring back memories from her before Harry days! Her escorting older men at the exclusive clubs, along with her topless yacht girl days! She's just too pathetic for words!
For those needing a reminder of the forever
D-list gal, it shown up again at Kevin Costner's charity day outing. That then became her definite: Meghan's Hollywood Ousting!

  10. Meghan consistently wears clothes that don't suit her and don't fit her properly. She also doesn't seem to own an iron. If she has stylists, she either doesn't listen to them or she should get another one.

  11. The most British way of calling out Harry's wife's bs… she has continued to wear her beige 'fashion' since leaving the firm so no one forced her out of colours. And that red dress, Lord my eyes. So so bad!

  12. Thank you for ending on a high note. Princess Margaret is one of my favorite royals. I wish I could have drank and smoked with her. I think we will see tiaras at state banquets. There’s a few coming up. I wish Queen Camila would wear more brooches. I really wanted to see the Williamson Brooch in France. And Granny’s Chips. The redesign of Queen Mary’s crown at the coronation was glorious. Cullian 3, 4, and 5 was perfect. I love the Princess of Wales in these power suits. She looks like she’s ready for anything. Now, sloppy dressed Henry? Can’t he wear a belt and iron a shirt, or figure out a fabric that doesn’t look sloppy. AND…Omg! Really? We need to be assaulted by the overseas Harry’s Wife? Especially in that red monstrosity?! Is this designer trying to get some work from the Instagram wife? And those giant white pants and sloppy striped shirt at Wimbledon? Ok, enough about her, blech. I miss Richard, and I’m not digging this designer lady. You’re wearing a jacket, put it on, it’s not a cape.
