I always think they look like a blinded up Austin Maxi. Cracking cars though,
well done Matt i think you made the right decisions on this car i wouldn't think anyone will care about the blind. like you i never close mine on my Panamera with a dark interior
That roof job looks foul during a really sunny day people your bodge will be so unbearable. but this other people im sure would like it for sunny days however much youve just killed the gt part , Grand tour …. No .Pretty rare to see a good bmw.
Not a bad old bus really, luckily the fuel injection work had been done (not heard of that problem before), and hope the timing chain hangs on for a while. The newer B57 engine ~2015 onwards is anecdotally a better engine and more reliable, and still a peach to drive. Would quite like a G30 530d personally as a great all rounder.
My only BMW was an E46 330i, owned up until 175,000 miles and the good thing about it was that whatever went wrong, it only cost £200 in parts to fix maximum, I did all the the work myself. I think it always takes BMW a couple of generations to iron out the bugs with their new engine tech. (and others too), such as direct injeciton petrols and the common rail Diesels. With the newest engines they have probably hit the sweet spot. N52 petrol old school was perfect apparently, but with direct injection and turbos the N53, N4 and N55 were all flakey imho., and the N57 Diesels and the 4 pots loved to eat timing chains (and apparently fuel pumps according to this video). Then they ironed out the bugs and introduced the B series petrol and Diesel engines.
It's a shame, 6 pots and combustion engine days are probably numbered but the latest ones are probably peak ICE. Currently drive a 2016 Mini 3 pot with the B38 and it's peppy and only minor trim issues so far with the car, overall it feels rock solid, like a much bigger car. Not too exciting but good enough on the backroads, a remap will give it the extra 20% it needs to be quite fun.
Great video Matt, quick question though – the car verticle checks you do as you pull up I understand is post-purchase? Do you do a check before you buy, or are you genuinely surprised by the returns it comes up with? Cheers!
We had the 535i GT here in Australia with exactly the same roof issue. We had BMW rectify once out of warranty, and after that we just decided never to open it again to be on the safe side. Living in Australia the blind was an absolute necessity.
It was the most magnificent car, it was great on long highway runs and surprisingly efficient, but it was like a whale to park, gutter rash was our arch nemesis, and all in all as 2 men and 2 small dogs we didn't get the use out of it we could have, given it was used as a work commuter and the odd run to Brisbane.
5 years and 60,000km later we traded it on a 440i … whomever bought that GT got a great car.
I’ve always found the GT an acquired taste even for a 5 series lover like me. It shouts “caravan lover” to me. It would also be good to know what you actually sell it for in an update video.
What a Bargain.
Ok to cut corners with cosmetic stuff but not mechanical stuff I suppose
Hey Matt, you should give us some closure on those "I bought a cheap car…" videos. 😅 Let us know how each one of them got on in the end…maybe a compilation once a month since they can take a while to sell?
BMW GT cars are Top 5 worse looking rears of all time.
You certainly have done the right thing matt the car is lovely and at 13 years old and the only minor is a sunroof blind I think its a great car with great provinence well done 👏 👍
the interior on the f generation cars like this and the normal 5 series are so beautiful
cars and service repair cars are very cheap compare to Australia,
Sooooo many ads now😢
Less your time and running that monstrosity you travelled in to see it, I would say you will be out of business in a year if it wasn’t for your income from Tic Tok prove me wrong
Next door neighbour has one in the same colour, very nice.
Must say a sunroof with no option to dim would do my head in. Would have like to see you go for a tint.
The car must have sold pretty quickly, as I just checked your website and it's not listed! 😄 Great content Matt!
Well done Matt, IMO the blind removal was a sensible and fair choice on a $10k car, not corner cutting. I think you are very honest and honourable from all the evidence on here! those who doubt that expect something for nothing and do not understand secondhand cars. I've never been a fan of the look of the GT, but I have to say, as they go, this one looks quite good! I am a fan of the BMW 3.0 6 cyl diesel. I ran a 530d estate for a few years and loved the seamless power deliver and really quite amazing economy (when I wasn't thrashing it!). Great engine!
Always loved these and that's a nice example, I was looking for an estate for practicality running round two huskies, but a dealer had one of these and I was really tempted, then I seen renault had gotten the tracing paper out and created the arkana now I'm not sure!
I had one of these, same age. I bought it with 50k, lovely car when it's working. That was my fourth BMW, put me off from the German premium cars forever!! Spent 10k on it in four years. Never by another BMW!! Bought a Lexus instead.
idk why but it feels like the car fits you so well, looks good with you
Great video as always! Particularly love this one as my Dad used to have an F11 530i Touring, so I have a soft spot for this era 5 series.
Very sensible. Well done
You should do the John O Groats road trip in this!
It’s horrible just get the Norma 5 series people!!
You say that they drive brilliant but it depends HOW they're driven. Which to be honest not great.
Hi i am in north Cyprus . I have just bought a BMW 318i 2008. Cannot find the brake fluid level. When i take the black plastic cover of there is a white plastic box thing . i cannot open this tried all over the internet for information. Can anybody help.
Have 2014 m sport lci model, love it. Every morning I jump in it and it makes me smile. 1 thing with bmw definitely get rid off run flat tyres
Nice cars these – a former boss had one – very comfortable long distance tourer with bags of space inside.
typical ive just bought a 2016 f10 520d m sport Because i couldnt find a 5 series GT WHICH has always been my dream car, its hard to find a good example Still great for your forecourt it should fly off to a new owner in no time . well done matt . good luck
Hi Matt, your previous review of a 530gt ,made me buy a 630gt m-sport,just as lockdown finished, and it was the best car I have ever owned, never driven an auto box before, and now would never go back to a manual, family problems made me move it on, but now have a bmw active tourer auto, would still love you to do a review of a 630gt, sorry for the late reply but just came back off holiday.
Seems a low price for that Matt? Easily a 11/12k car especially when you sold an 2004 Bora for nearly 2.5k but what do i know haha.
You could save half the money by doing things yourself.
The bills listed ih these is why i stay away from diesels if i can.
I'd rather have the 25mpg and less maintenance and repair costs.
I have 530d GT and have same problem with blind. Luckily mine is not sagging so badly yet. Common issue on them. Only thing in summer with open blind it will get pretty hot. Even with air con running. Definitely need tinting the glass.
Whatever you do, don't tint the sunroof. Heat can get trapped between the tint and the glass then, bang – the glass shatters.
Nice car, great vid as always, what happened with the blind spot camera?
That’s one gorgeous car. Good job all round
