Dr. Jordan B. Peterson and Missouri senator Josh Hawley discuss his new book, “Manhood,” and break down the importance and depth of the biblical ideals that have shaped society – and particularly the west – in a historically unprecedented manner.

Josh Hawley is a constitutional lawyer, the U.S. Senator for Missouri, and the bestselling author of “The Tyranny of Big Tech.” His newest publication, “Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs,” is available now and seeks to defend the positive and necessary attributes of masculinity across leadership, governance, and the everyday structure of American life. Men of character are needed for a civilization to thrive, and today’s America, the west, has openly sought to destroy the foundational and biblical principles that create them.

  1. Dear Jordan B Peterson, have you noticed that especially in this podcast most of the taking is done by you than the guest. I think it supposed to be the other way round. To give you an example, when senator started to share about his friend, you intrupted him and started to tell about your side of story. I have noticed this actually after watching several of your podcasts in this platform. I see your talk in different platforms and I am grateful for that, but when a guest comes please let him/ her do most most the takling to learn from them at least in this podcast. Thanks!

  4. 34:55 the British did abolished slavery which was an amazing accomplishment.

But I would add that Islam had a role in reducing it in the Arab world before that.

Islam's approach to slavery added the idea that freedom was the natural state of affairs for human beings and in line with this it limited the opportunities to enslave people, commended the freeing of slaves and regulated the way slaves were treated:

Islam greatly limited those who could be enslaved and under what circumstances
Islam treated slaves as human beings as well as property
Islam banned the mistreatment of slaves – indeed the tradition repeatedly stresses the importance of treating slaves with kindness and compassion
Islam allowed slaves to achieve their freedom and made freeing slaves a virtuous act
Islam barred Muslims from enslaving other Muslims

  5. About 25% of the time Jordan has on a guest who far outstrips him in intelligence and thoughtfulness, and I wish he would shut up and let that guest talk more. This interview with Josh Hawley, who is heads and leagues above JP, is a prime example.

  6. I fully agree with the true religious presuppositions that scientists operate on. Otherwise, why bother? These suppositions have a religious nature because they rely so heavily on faith. Believing there is order in reality is a huge leap of faith when you think about it rationally. However, I don't agree with Dr. Peterson on this: "Science emerged in Europe and nowhere else." This statement massively undermines the contributions other religious and non-religious societies have made to humanity. The scientific revolution that took place in Europe in the 18th century is without a doubt a significant event in human history, but it isn't the only scientific revolution. The foundation for the empirical scientific method was laid out in the 10th century by Ibn al-Haytham during the Islamic Golden Age. This period proves that religion itself isn't an inhibitor of scientific advancement as we might be led to believe. The true inhibitor is politics. The Islamic Golden Age ended when religion became intertwined with politics, reinforcing my belief that politics is the true inhibitor.

  7. JP has a tendency to always revert back to humans being animals, one of the few aspects I disagree with him about.
Humans have a moral conscience that completely sets us apart from animals, which have instinct, but no soul or spirit to drive their nature, completely opposite of humans who are always drawn to a higher power, God.

  8. Josh Hawley ran away from the Jan 6th rioters he incited like a coward! And he has the nerve to talk about warriors and kings. He exemplifies the shadow side of all of these Jungian archetypes.

  9. Let's keep religion out of politics how bout it.
Our tradition is freedom of religion and separation of church and state.

You don't need the bible to learn morals. It's scary to think that without the bible, y'all would probably be violent, dangerous people…hell many religious people already are violent, dangerous people.
