Hurricane Milton raced toward Florida’s Gulf Coast, where landfall was expected Wednesday evening. Storm surge of 13 feet or more was expected, with more than a foot or more of rain. An outbreak of tornadoes was reported across the state. NBC News’ Lester Holt spoke with officials and residents on the Gulf Coast.

Sarasota braced for a direct hit from Hurricane Milton, with the threat of storm surge potentially causing catastrophic damage to homes and other buildings. NBC News’ Tom Llamas reports.

Ft. Myers could experience a major storm surge as Hurricane Milton hits, and thousands of people have evacuated to shelters. NBC News’ Sam Brock reports that the area has already seen dangerous conditions.

The threat to Orlando and other inland cities was from torrential rain and potentially deadly flooding from Hurricane Milton. NBC News’ Priscilla Thompson reports.

  3. Its a cycle about every 20 yrs we get a cat 5 lie this in the gulf. Katrina was what ? 19 yrs ago 😮 although in 62 yrs i don't believe ive ever seen one cross the gulf in this direction like this before 😮

  12. Too much fearmongering and BS drama here for me. You would think with cbs abundance of resources and the power they have. They could do a lot more to help than this fearmongering boohoo reporting they're doing. Oh look the sand on the street is 2 ft high ! 😮 really sad and disturbing cbs 😢

The US authorities are lying to Americans about the strength of Hurricane Milton, for what purpose we will find out in the near future, my opinion is that this is all to distract attention from the international failures of the policy of the US authorities. The Democrats are making an unprecedented mistake, the main thing for them is to keep power.

  17. I went through a similarly large storm in 2019: Typhoon Hagibis in Japan. It reached peak winds of 120 mph, compared to Milton's 160 mph. Thankfully, I was in a well-built, well-prepared Tokyo, so we didn't have to worry much—just stayed indoors. Unfortunately, less well-built areas in the countryside were devastated. People in Japan didn't have a chance to evacuate because that monster storm swiftly moved from the south to the north, affecting the whole country.
    Milton's 160 mph winds will be devastating. Good luck.
