Hundreds of ADF personnel relocated to strengthen Australia’s northern bases

Hundreds of ADF personnel will be relocated from Adelaide to north Queensland in a move to strengthen Australia’s northern bases.

In the first round of changes around 800 troops will move out of South Australia.

Most of the troops will be resettling in Townsville.

Others will be split between bases in Brisbane and Darwin.

Over time the Army’s tanks and most of its combat vehicles will be based in Townsville as well as half its helicopter fleet.

Sky News Australia was joined by Defence Minister Richard Marles to discuss the restructuring of Australia’s military.

  3. wow, nothing like going full circle. Holy shit. An island nation surrounded by water and by hundreds of smaller islands, you'd think we'd have lethal Naval Force, and more to the point, a Marine Force that specialises on Amphib Ops.

  4. Bit weird moving the troops to the northern bases when there's a literal army of fifth column CCP agents living in Sydney and Melbourne. I guess we'll be ceding those states to China when the war starts in a few years?

  5. This is America sleep walking us into a war with China so we will be the cannon fodder. America and NATO has caused the war between Russia and Ukraine to satisfy Americas hegemony. Again the Australian people are the puppets for America and the ALP and the LNP don’t give a dame about the public.

  6. Yes if I was China and I was going invade it would be Perth were I would invade. China is closer to Perth than China is close to Townsville. And there is nothing there except for a small reserve force. For me it is a shit idea you need a brigade either in SA or Perth.

  7. LOL collapsing a Battalion and a Armoured regiment, is nothing more then a major reduction in Army combat power. This new Army wouldn't be able to achieve the 1999 East Timor intervention. In affect, China will be extremly happy, as we are virtually a defenceless continent.
