Is there a way I can pay to have a one-on-one with Joel about my dog? I've learned a TO in just a few videos – and it's already making a difference – but I have a few questions. My dog is a tiny little guy (Coton de Tulear) but he's super alpha and I'm a softie so I'm having to learn to change completely the way I deal with him. He got in my 11-year-old niece's face the other day – she was sitting next to me on the couch – and the look in his eye was scary. He looked like he was going to snap at her. Normally they have a good relationship. She's very good with dogs. I wasn't sure at all how to handle the situation. I got up immediately and called him to me (in case he was resource guarding ME) and made him sit, lay down, shake – just to get him in a different mindset. It snapped him out of it. But should I have been harsher with him? I just didn't know what to do. Should I lock him in his crate if this ever happens again? I hope that by being a stronger leader with him this won't not happen again but I need to know how to handle it if it does.

Before I really get into this podcast, I just want to say that I always appreciate how real Joel is. To me, it seems like a rare quality and it is something I highly value. I don't even have a dog. I watch this channel because it helps to confirm for me some things that I already kinda knew but wasn't confident about and I learn something new every time. As someone who also had a challenging childhood, I like to see people being great leaders as parents, bringing their children up in a supportive household and giving them a good foundation on which they can build their future.
Random question because of a crazy dog in neighborhood, there is this one part of my neighborhood we’re I passed by this house and then I hear this dog just go crazy and slamming his body into the wooden gate so I made sure not to walk thru there again while walking my dogs, I have not walked thru in about three month and today I decide to walk around that area again and hopefully nothing will happen. As I approached the house I just hear a loud and aggressive bark, I have intuition it is a bulldog type and this dog is not even barking to be defensive like a normal dog I truly feel this dog is trying to break out to kill whatever passes by, he is slamming his body into the gate full strength and just sounding like he wants to get out to kill not even defensive but aggressive. So my question is, if a aggressive dog is trying to get you do you have the right to shoot and kill the dog. I don’t own a gun but just wondering.
The “wet brain” phenomenon is hepatic encephalopathy from liver cirrhosis. The liver can no longer filter out ammonia and other toxins from the blood and those toxins affect the brain. The distended belly is ascites, which also goes with liver cirrhosis.

It reminds me a little bit of the Movie / Documentary "The Deepest Breath" I don't wanna give it away, or ruin it for anyone, but I promise you it's a movie that û me off guard as a 44 year old Man who grew up on the mean streets of Philadelphia Pa, & it had me balling crying like a little school girl to be perfectly honest. It's about as touching of a story as has ever been told & it's true. Nothing like True Love, Happiness, Complete Loyalty, Adventure, Athleticism, Heroism, and Tragedy rolled into 1 true story. You have to watch it.
Turning "shit" into fertilizer. It is a fundamental human skill, some of us seem to never learn how to do it but most of us can do it to some level. Folk like Nelson Mandela and Malala Yousfzai seem to have 'genius' level of this skill…turning even extreme malice and injustice into something that enriches them and those around them. We can make our "selves" richer and more fruitful or we can just leave the shit as shit (On us and in us.) and walk thru life stinking everything up and never transforming into someone richer, deeper, stronger.

Breed of the week: There were a range of 'native dogs' across ancient Britain and the "Collie" and the "Border Collie" came from that ancestry. There was one famous Sire "Old Hemp" who is seen as the key genetic stock for all pure bred Border Collies – apparently his working style is what we see in all Border Collie's now. The "Australian Shepherd" probably should have a different name. They actually derive from Spanish sheep dogs working in early days California – later on Australian and NZ "Collies" were also imported to California for cattle herding and their genetics added to the original Spanish dogs. It would be interesting to see what genetic connection could be traced between the UK, AUS, and Spanish sheep dogs. It seems likely to me that the relationships over a couple of centuries might be pretty connected.

I would love to hear more about how to make my dog feel as safe and secure as Joel's children (and Prince).
