HUGE USAF Anti-Ship Attack vs Russia's Black Sea Fleet (WarGames 104) | DCS

We use DCS World to simulate the effect of a large USAF aerial anti-ship strike on the Russian Black Sea naval fleet. The strike includes F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lighting II and F-16 Falcon with AGM-158C LRASM missiles. Russia defends with Su-35 Flanker and Su-57 Felon.

  2. I would love to see this again but swap the 16s with 15s or something capable of carrying the American decoy missiles and send those in a couple staggered waves to soak up a lot of the initial S400 and Su-35 missiles. All in all a fantastic video🎉

  3. "Can – to a degree – see stealth aircraft" – all modern ship born RADAR will "see" stealth aircraft to maximum range. The only issue is the RCS will be smaller, so it depends on how sophisticated teh back end systems are when it comes to tracking and engaging them. Smaller RCS is meaningless when you can still see it! When a small RCS meant your RADAR signature was lost in background clutter, it was a game changer – we can now declutter RADAR returns and track tiny, tiny returns that would have been lost in the noise in real time. Let me give you an example, a British Type 45 destroyer will “see” an F-35 perfectly well at the maximum possible range – that's about 225 miles if the plane is at 30,000 ft or 300 miles at 60,000 feet (good luck getting an F-35 up there!) – limits dictated by the curvature of the earth and the elevation of the RADAR installation. So whether you are stealth or not is irrelevant – you will be seen and tracked. Great, so you have the RCS of a bird, but you cannot hide amongst the birds, why not? Because the fact you're doing 500 knots kind of gives the game away – the system knows you are not a 500 knot bird! It will pick you out and track you as a possible cruise missile or stealth plane discarding all the other slow bird-sized returns. This is the power of real-time digital signal processing, you can amplify RADAR returns 1000 fold until they are wall of noise and then sift through it looking for constants in real time – all modern RADAR back-end systems can do this to one degree or other – same for infrared returns which is how PIRATE on Typhoon has doubled in detection range in the last ten years without touching the sensors.

  4. no mention of any virus introduced ( USSF provide) into the SAM fire control radar or 10 days prior NATO jets probing Ukraine airspace to see how the Russians reacted ? No mention of the Ukrainian patriot missile batteries that would constrict Russian air space freedom of safe movement

  5. I think it's been proven that the capability of Russian equipment and personnel is vastly overstated. In real life, the US would be hilariously good against Russia. That's not to say the US wouldn't lose anything, they likely would, but no where near what they do in these simulations. S400 is no where near as good as what people say.

  6. It's funny because the setup for this scenario is the exact opposite of what would be done in reality. SEAD with stealth platforms and standoff munitions reducing or eliminating enemy air defence, then allow fourth gen fighters and ground attack aircraft to enter the theater. F-16's wouldn't be sent headlong into certain death against known SAM positions.

  7. Hey Cap, would it be possible to do a historical recreation from the Pak-Indo war. Flt Lt Alam Khan was credited with using an F104 for a high speed recco mission over an Indian base, thought it would be interesting to see if the team can do the same against historical Indian AA and modern day AA!

  8. Add 3 B-21 to the mix, 1 in the south with decoys to suck up ship SAMS. 1 in the north as a missile truck leading the attack dumping AMRAMS into the battle space. After the F-35 attack 3rd
B-21 Anti-ship missiles to finish off the fleet. If your nice you can add a C-17 with a supply of body bag for the Russians.

  9. Great stuff as always, very interesting. I'm just left wondering if your cost calculations include the monetary value of personnel? Obviously there's a huge amount of money spent on training a pilot to fly an F35, maybe not so much is spent on a Mig pilot, certainly not a speedboat pilot! As I say, just wondering, would be interesting to know. Keep those wings pointing in opposite directions! Cheers.

  10. Hornets, or better yet – Superhornets could make a big difference here. F-18C can carry 6 TALDs with 3 bags, or 12 if you have enough range with just one. For F-18E it's 10 and 16 respectively. Have the F-22 score the opening stealthy kills as suggested at the end of the video, then a few bugs release the decoys and watch the russians expend their fancy missiles. The F-16s then have a much fairer fight ahead of them.
With the decoys deployed, the Hornets can turn south and lob a couple AMRAAMs each towards any Su-35 coming towards the strike pakage, forcing them to evade and buying time for the F-35s to release their payload.

  11. I think one thing was missing if you were basing this on current events. The Ukrainians should have had at least one S300 battery around Odessa to help cover the F-16s and F-35s.
It may have made the difference in efficiency overall. Other than that, a really interesting setup and execution.

  12. In real life the LRASM atleast according to the manufacturer does have the ability to asses Damage which is pretty bad ass if true.. LRASM all around is just a very deadly and VERY intelligent weapon working with other LRASM's in real time data link.

  13. Recently retrofitted with Russia's best technology…radar and anti-missile defenses The Moskva was expected to serve until 2040. The pride of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

In 2022, two $5 million dollar Ukrainian Neptune missiles sunk the pride of Russia's Black Sea fleet. The Moskva. Armed with 64 S-300F AA missiles, along with Russia's latest high powered radar systems and close range AA missile systems and AK-130/Ak-630 CIWS close range gun systems.

Taken out with 2 missiles even being retrofitted with their best weapons and radar systems.

Me thinks this attack scenario is a bit lacking in reality.

  14. Cap.. my suggestion would be to lead with F-35 strike with F-22 CAP. Russians wouldn't know it was coming until the strike group was already on their way home. No reason to alert them with a wall of F-16's!

  15. Some suggestions for improvements: 1) Delete the F-16s from the attack. It was a good idea, but all it seemed to achieve was making the Russians scramble sooner. The F-35, even with external stores, has a much smaller RCS than an F-16. They would have been detected much later and caused the Russians to scramble later. 2) Send the F-22s in well ahead of the anti-ship force. In full stealth mode, they could easily penetrate to within AIM-120D range of the Russian bases without being detected. Then when the Russian fighters scramble, the F-22s can pick them off as they are taking off. 3) The B-21 is not in service yet, but the B-2 is, and it can carry LRASMs. It's not as stealthy as an F-22 or an F-35 in full stealth mode, but it's definitely stealthy enough to get to LRASM range without being picked up on radar. You'd also need fewer planes, since each B-2 can carry a lot more LRASMs than an F-35. 4) Would it be possible to stagger the waves of LRASMs more, so the ships have time to sink before the next wave comes in? You might need to use fewer missiles that way to get around the deconfliction problems.

  16. Some general combat tactics would make that attack better. You basically attacked from one vector. If the F-16s were only meant as cannon fodder, why not throw them from one or two more angles to draw the fighter cover away from the side that you are actually attacking from?
