Howard prints a new halftone of a train in our shop for National Train Day (May 11)

May 11th is National Train Day this year! It is observed on the closest Saturday to the anniversary (May 10) of the the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.

For today, Howard letterpress printed one of our new pieces in our shop from the Bill from Chico Collection. This large halftone depicts Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5409, a K-4S (4-6-2). Nicknamed the “Pacific,” it was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February 1927 and was retired in February 1955. This is a view of the engine in 1930. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
