And easy way to make a cosmic peace beacon is to built a lot of green tinted glass and sent it into orbit around the sun with the flat part parallel to the surface of the star. Green is a neigh impossible color for stars. Making it a very enticing anomaly.
This will signal to advanced civilization that someone wants to be seen, which will trigger. First but gradual contact. The best kind of contact

I believe that the only logical purpose for interplanetary war is conquest.
Aliens would in my view not immediately open fire on earth because for a civilisation to be capable of advanced technology they need to have political states that support industrial development and therefore also rational diplomatic developments.
There is absolutely nothing to be gained by investing in the resources needed to murder a far away fellow life form.
I can imagine if our species are similar in technology levels the stronger civilisation will occupy or even govern the defeated planet and start learning the foreign tech, society, history etc.
