  5. Neat Fact: Pull your suckers and clip the bottom off clean. Then put them in a cup of water for 14ish days and it will sprout root. Boom, unlimited tomatoes hack. You're welcome 🙂

    Note: make sure the sucker is at least 8 inches and cover the bottom 3-4 inches with water.

  7. Wonderful and informed video. When I removed the suckers, or new growth, on my tomatoes I tried replanting them. I didn't know what would happen. And it did grow as another plant. I did have some tomatoes but not as many. Might have been the change in weather. Have you done that? What were your results?

  8. Does this also work for Beefsteak plants? My cherry 100 is nice & tall, but the beefsteak is short with flowers, but no tomatoes yet. Thanks for the great info! 👽✌️

  17. this year i didnt cut the suckers but i did check soil neutrient levels often. i've been using frest fish leavings, composted goat droppings and chemical fertilizer occationally, spraying with homemade calcium carbonate. looking like ill have the best harvest ever. I do have the use the largest cages ever but it will be worth it.

  23. Just came in from pruning all of my tomatoe plants . Iwanted to increase air flow as I am in western Michigan and its very hot and humid here in July. Right when my plants stast to mature , flower fruit. Blight can hit ya fast here. I never thought about these points you are making here in this video. I'm so excited to see the difference this will make to my plants this year. Thanks so much James ! happy growing season my friend !

Going to have to try a side-by-side comparison of this system (single growth point, string-grown) and the one recommended by West Coast Seeds where you keep a couple of suckers and, using a crossbar at the top of the trellis, create 3-5 tomato vines from a single square-foot-planted tomato next year.

    They claimed the multi-vine method netted a largrr harvest over the course of the year compared to the single vine method but who knows!? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wonder if this works for container tomatoes. 🤔 I am planning to grow determinate tomatoes for my fall crop but I also plan to plant a few more indeterminate plants and grow them on a bamboo pole but planted in the ground (or possibly a 20gallon grow bag). I really like the bamboo pole method of vertical gardening indeterminate tomatoes because I have quite a few of them and this is a great way to use them (besides my pole bean teepees). Great ideas! Thank you! This year and last I used square tomato cages and they just aren’t tall enough for my indeterminate plants and they flip over the top and sprawl. Not fun with my small garden beds. I have to make the best of my small growing space until we can put in my proper deer fencing and I can plant to my hearts content. For now my plants have to stay mobile in grow bags as much as possible. I do have small raised beds but they’re also technically 2×4 feed troughs with drainage holes and they’ve been great. I’ve done my best with what I have. I definitely want more tomatoes though and I think this method will really help. Thank you!
