  1. The Internet Historian situation is blown so out of proportion. He made a video documenting an event, he probably used that article as one of his sources for it, the website that hosts the original article felt that his wording was too close to their article and he apparently changed it. And somehow this is enough to start making assumptions about antisemitism based on a couple of losers in his twitter replies being losers. As if any fandom as large as Internet Historian's is comprised ONLY of decent human beings.

  2. 'How to Take Down an Internet Legend'

'hbomberguy could cancel any Youtuber he wants'

'having their livelihood taken away from them'

Okay, can we hit the brakes here. My guy Internet Historian went from 4.04 million subs to 4 million subs. That's less than a single percent of his total subscriber count. He's going to be fine, so can we stop the drama? This is the drama most people hate. Blowing things out of proportion rather than just saying what happened and moving on.

  3. Hbomberguy has set a new standard here. It's like back in the day with Idubbz content cop but this has research, valid points, and actually a great message to take away. Here's to hoping it has a lasting impact and legacy that people refer back to in the future.

  4. jeesus this commentary is so low in quality.
    you wanna play devils advocat?
you think hbomb could "cancel any youtuber" if he put his mind to it? no he couldnt!
why do you spout nonsense to appear balanced and objective?

hbomb points out multiple times that he is NOT focused on the honest mistakes people make, he is pointing out blatant stealing as business strategy.
my dude, did you even whatch his video?
get better at playing devils advocat.

and also: the antisemitism-quip was one snide remark in a 4 hour long video about plagiarism. how is that "accusation" a main point in your video?

sheesh im never gonna watch anything from you again.
and to all the rest of the viewers here: stop watching that cheap garbage maybe?

  5. It was apparant. I avoided older IH stuff cause some of them were plain alt right most being just harmless dark humor. MOST. I liked newer things while avoiding older videos that I remembered from my alt right phase, but the fact that he just stole a whole article just pushed me away from newer stuff.

Fr he even had a neo nazi dog whistle as a joke which is just fucked up.

  6. 11:22 – this is a destructive argument, I feel: It takes "nobody is perfect" and twists it into "anyone could be 'canceled' by mighty H, so if he comes with damning evidence about someone, it's just because he chose to look there" – implying that whether or not someone acted clearly badly is secondary, and the more interesting question is, why mighty H chose this victim instead of that one. I would caution against this line of argument, even when taking the advocatus diabaoli position.

When it comes to Internet Historian, though, I agree that Harris spiced up his plagiarism critique with critical speculation about IH's and his fanbase's politics in a way that's a bit.. questionable. The evidence presented doesn't look good, but it's not substantiated enough to just jam it in there – and it opens an unnecessary flank in his critique of IH. Did he want to 'cancel' IH a little? Maybe… Hard to tell, since it should have been obvious to him then, that that wouldn't work (if done this way).

It would be great to see them talk all this through in some podcast!

  7. I’ll still watch him, dgaf. We don’t have many escapes from this wicked world and I don’t want to lose one. Besides from what I heard it was plagerism but his comedy and editing is more than enough. Especially when the people going after him allow hasan and other ‘react’ people to straight up steal content with no form of transformative aspects

  8. I would argue the opposite of the main point of this video – IH got off relatively light compared to the others in the video. His backlash was on the same level as AVGN. It's barely a blip on his channel metrics that he probably won't ever acknowledge, because nobody cares enough that he has to do so. He released a main video on the same day and it got less than 5% dislikes. The man in cave video is a shame, but it is an isolated case and was addressed before hbomber ever released his video on it.

  9. I think having edgy jokes in the past is fine. The 2000’s-early 2010’s were a different time after all. We had different value systems as a society. But for me, you can’t tolerate too much bigotry (racism, homophobia, etc) in your core audience in 2023. I do think it’s the responsibility of creators to at least try to stomp that shit out when it happens. Some fans will still be assholes at the end of the day, but you can at least make an effort. (EDIT: Not a criticism against GFM, but just among YTers in general)

  10. I think this is a bit of a bad take. Hbomber spent hours exposing some pretty clearly wrong examples of something that is a serious problem. He didn't say everyone who produces content quickly is inherently bad. He said producing content quickly without doing their own work and just stealing is bad. I have no loyalty to anyone of this people either way; I've only just barely heard of a couple of these people and I had never heard of HBomber until this video.

However, fact checking him as you go is mostly easy (I can't find things that dont exist, so I can't confirm that they were exactly as he presents them but it's easy to give him the benefit of the doubt there because he quickly garners trust with the rest of his citations being easy to find), and he is very clearly providing accurate information. He adds in a few opinions, but those opinions are well grounded in what he is proving and clearly not arbitrary. The exception being that he doesn't like YouTube drama channels for reasons he doesn't explain.

  11. This is a small nitpick but I disagree with saying Harris "targeted" or "accused" the plagiarists. It wasn't an accusation — it was actual evidence presented in exacting (nearly court worthy) detail. He wasn't targeting them – they put the target on themselves with repeatedly plagiarizing people then playing victim when they got caught.

  12. What really blows my mind isnt even the plagiarism. There is atraight up misinformation in the video, such as the part where he confused crystal cave with sand cave.

Whys that so interesting? A quick look at wikipedia could have helped him clear the confusion, but somehow, the guy who was willing to scour the internet for an article to rip off almost beat by beat couldnt be bothered to spend 5 minutes to fact check something pretty simple, and this guy has 'Historian' in his name.

  13. The thing about hbomberguy pointing out Internet Historian's edgy audience, is it has merit. Source: I was one of them. Internet Historian's early videos were about 4chan ongoings, like Pool's Closed and the Mountain Dew "Dub the Dew" fiasco. But, as someone who is a fan of hbomberguy and was a former fan of Internet Historian (I literally listened to Internet Historian's video on wine right before watching the hbomberguy plagiarism video), and someone who has watched the plagiarism video multiple times (at work in the background, but multiple times nonetheless), the quips about Internet Historian building an antisemetic audience is such a tiny fraction of even the part on Internet Historian that I genuinely don't know why it's the focus of the discussion.

The worst part about Internet Historian being exposed for plagiarism is that his videos were awesome. He puts so much effort into them. They're clearly high effort and great. But like, why couldn't he just, ask for permission to use the article as a basis? It would have been fine.

hbomberguy's video's point wasn't "Internet Historian is anti-semetic and thats why he's bad." The point was incredibly clearly "Internet Historian plagiarized an article for his video, and that is bad." But I suppose that's just how the internet is. I even shared the video with a friend saying how disappointed I was that Internet Historian did this, but he didn't really even watch the whole segment of the video before saying soemthing about it. People listen to respond, not listen to learn. And hell, not even saying I'm not guilty of this. God, I am. But the internet makes that worse for everyone.

Maybe Internet Historian shouldn't lose his career, I would love to be able to watch his videos again without the feeling in the back of my mind, "Was this taken from somewhere or someone else without credit?" But he needs to put work into proving that he will take steps and strides into providing credit for his sources better.

  14. I have never heard about this bomber guy before but the fact that he attempts to twist IH and the fanbase into some sort of right wing and racist monstrosity instead of simply reporting about the plagiatrism case tells me everything i need to know about him and his content.
I hope IH avoids copying shit better going forward but this event doesn't change my opinion of him at all. His videos are highly entertaining.

  15. I have to admit it's hard to take Hbomberguy's criticism's seriously when he makes constant statements that seem to tell me the guy had motives beyond the plagiarism which I agree was bad.
Like I'm sorry but complaining that he made fun of sjws in a video about dahs-con which is stupid since they were the reason that con failed. Complaining about random comments that are anti semetic and you can't even be certain if they actually are his fans or just some third party trolls/bots. The spite just seeps through his words quite frankly
That's not even getting into how leftwingers like himself don't believe in private property
