  1. Well tbh if it’s gatekeeping in the sense of “you can’t play this because you’ve played this or you don’t like this”. As an example just because I still buy Pokémon games I’m called an idiot and not worthy of the greatness of Temtem (sarcasm). But when it comes to journalists or people who aren’t actually fans of the genre trying to hijack it and change the genre to suit their tastes…then gatekeeping is okay.

  2. You say that gate keeping would stale a franchise growth but right now am seeing the opposite in a lot of franchise they open it for everyone and end up isolating a lot of the original fans. As much i would like to share my love of monster collection/raising games i do not want this community to change so much that i won't even recognize it anymore after companies decide mon games need to meet the global standards (looking at pokemon). I don't want to call high on life a fps mon game.

  3. As someone who started this journey by discovering Pokémon and Digimon 25 years ago, I may not be one to talk, but if you got a craving for these games, then you will find them, without fail, always.

But someone like you that actively goes to the lengths to talk about them and give others the idea that they even exist, is at least better than them moronic companies that only look at the money and not the quality or content.

  4. Not sure if I understand the gatekeeping the genre thing. I have ot look up gatekeeping, from the overall meaning I can't figure it out right now. 4:21

Staying friendly and answering questions, well I think I'm already doing that sometimes^^

  5. I started playing Pokemon Red and Blue, I have tried others Dragon quest/Warrior monsters and Digimon. I enjoyed MHS on 2DsXL and version2 on the Switch. I really want to get Re:legend but badly marred by bugs and glitches there hasn't been update since September last year. Pokemon gets samey with each version, I will try others for variety. Dragon quest Monster series and Yokai Watch you can battle with team instead of one. Nexomon Age of Extinction was even recommend by sales assistant. The genre has more variety and evolved over the years but avoid Mobile games they force players to buy items in order to make progress. I was constantly attacked on Dragonpal to point of quitting.

  6. I'm a hobbyist character designer/pixel artist and have some experience making an Emerald ROMhack of my own. I'm especially experienced with making those types of 64×64 monster sprites and have worked with a youtuber on their own romhack projects a couple times.
Learning the programming and musical side is interesting but slow going.
I'd love to work on a new monster taming game if anyone needs a pixel artist. Just kinda hard to figure out where to look for that type of gig especially while working full time.
If any type of projects pop up tho I think it'd be awesome to be a part of.

  7. this is one of those things that dont make that much sense in the video game world, throughout time companys try to replicate games that do well making genres in doing so, like when the 1st super mario did well all we saw was plataform games, now more recently minecraft exploded and everyone tryed to copy it giving birth to the surviver genre, then it was lol with the moba genre and now pubg that started this battle royal "meta" we leave today, meanwhile pokemon is on the side doing literally billions of dollars and nobody seems to try to compete for some of those billions, i say this because i love the genre and love pokemon but at the same time i think pokemon is really slowing the genre back, i think that when a pokemon game flops for the 1st time we will see the best pokemon game of all time in the next gen and for that we need real competitors i hope monter hunter storys continues to do great and the smt series too

  8. Great video Ed 😁 unfortunately we still have a long way to go recently when Hoops announced he’s working on his own monster taming game I found a comment saying that don’t release the game on switch so I asked why since Nintendo already approved the ports of Coromon and the 2 Nexomon games but they refused to listen or read anything that I wrote ultimately Hoops deleted a comment asking me to chill lol

  9. How to grow the monster taming genre: get a studio to make a monster training game that isn't a boring, terrible turn-based fighting game. I need a monster training game with Dark Souls combat. Like the Pocket Souls Dark souls 3 mod.

  10. Recently found your channel and love it! Any chance you can do a video with your top 10 personal favourite monster games (excluding Pokémon as I've played them all haha) or something similar? If you have one already I may have missed the video!

  11. Ed I love you bro! Your takes are the hottest, and they're so true. I actually found your channel because I got heavily interested in game dev and also PLA was such a disappointment that I didn't even buy it and I'm sick of turn-based monster taming in all honestly. Keep up the great work my guy.

  12. There's this monster taming game my friend really likes – Dragonseeds, for the PS1. It's super hard to find any info on, but his enthusiasm for it has passed onto me a bit :'3 if you ever do a video on older/forgotten monster taming games (or even if you find a way to play through it yourself !) it would be a really cool inclusion 😀

  13. As a aaa/indie dev of the last decade, Ive always been eager to finally pitch my monster taming project.

After porting all the Digimon World 1 raising and combat logic, and recreating the Chao garden a few times only to have no interest your channel is really giving me faith.
