  1. I have returned to using Airfix as my go to kits my modest little stash it getting redder. A while ago I purchased a BBMF set. When I eventually got around to build it, the clear sprue fell foul of the carpet monster, while moving my chair I heard that knowing sound of breaking. I had cracked the main part of the cockpit for the Lancasrter. I E-mailed Airfix just to see if they could or would be able to help. Well. The response was well 'Nulli Secundus'. Second to none. Airfix Could Not have been any more helpful. A week later the Kit was finished. Fully agree. Customer service was fantastic

  2. for as long as I can remember Airfix were up-front about potentially unusable – or just missing – parts. I recall the kits in the 1970s had a slip of paper that you could fill in and send off requesting individual pieces. I will say that every time I have dealt with their Customer Services team they have always been excellent!
Mos – I will remember to take a photo of the bare table top and sprue tree for whenever a part is missing 🙂 🙂

  3. In the 70s you just sent off the slip in the kit with the missing or broken part number. It was such a pain. If only we had smartphones to take umpteen photos, write an email, multiple references, receipts, more emails, inside leg measurement, etc, it would have made the process much easier.

  4. I wonder how this works for those outside the uk?….i could be wrong but i can't see it being free…and obviously larger parts cost more to produce than smaller parts so if its a large part and you live outside the uk would it be cheaper just to buy another kit…when you take into account the price of the part /parts,postage costs and possibly a customs charge🤔🤔🤔.

  5. Well mos you obviously carry a lot clout with Airfix, I had short shot with the club kit twin Hawk and recieved nothing, they still had Hawks in stock, so miffed with very poor customer service I will not be renewing the Airfix club especially it now £35 and no hard copy magazine.

  6. That's interesting. I was told that the kit still had to be in production in order to get spares. I wanted the 1/24th scale Mosquito saxophone exhaust ends, and I was told it wasn't possible for the aforementioned reason. The reply I received was:

Unfortunately, due to the age of the kit, we have not been able to locate the part that you have requested so I am sorry but on this occasion we are unable to be of assistance.

However provided your kit was purchased within the last 12 months and the parts were missing or damaged upon receipt, your place of purchase will be able to replace or refund the kit for you.

I also remember a program on TV where they showed the stock room they had, full of old kits from where they would take spare parts. I don't know if they still do that or not. Maybe I was just unlucky….

  7. It just seems they are so used to doing it because their quality control is so crap they have to be good at it.
This is why I steer away from Airfix kits.
Because all I hear is Airfix are so good at fixing stuff ups with the kit they purchased.
I agree by the look of it they have improved the design of the kits greatly.
    And they are stunning mostly.
But the production lets them down constantly.
I seen a resent video of a 1/48 Buccaneer and review.
And it was ridicules it had problems !
I am not paying here in Oz $150 for that kits now knowing it has possible problems ?
I’ll just get the Tamiya F4 or F35 for the same money.
Because I hardly ever hear oh Tamiya are so good at doing faulty part replacements.
Because they hardly ever have to.
Tell me how many Tamiya kit reviews have identified production problems ??
    Me never.
Yet you hear all the time Airfix are so good at it a reviewers find faults.
    You have.
    Nigel has.
    Jen now has.
    Phil Flory has as well.
But not with Tamiya for around the same dollars 💵
And how long do I wait in Oz for my replacement parts ?
    Yeah no thanks.
    Thanks for the show.

  8. Had to use it again this morning for the THIRD time for the Rotodyne. 1 prop bent and the other missing. Airfix really need to sort out their quality control as there is no excuse for the shabby products being released again under the Vintage label

  9. Beware stash owners everywhere: I started to build a kit from my stash. Found a couple of parts were missing (polythene bag was sealed and intact, BTW) and that little label indicated that my kit was "out of warranty"….So, I had to pay for my parts.

  10. I'm in the middle of a project which involves the building of two 1/72 Blenheims. I had decided to build these two kits side-by-side. When I opened the boxes I found that one box had a part that had a short shot. The crux of the story is that I contacted Airfix in the manner in which you did. A few days later I received the replacement part free of charge. I live in southern Ireland. Great service from Airfix.

  11. OK, it's annoying and really it should not be happening, but I am not sure I could be bothered to send off for a replacement. Short shots and missing bits are obviously different. Not a difficult repair, job, and it might be useful gho show a repair for those modellers who have kits with damaged parts where spares are not available. I have always thought modelling has been about the development and exercise of skills.
