In this video I explain some of the strategies I use when kayak fishing the Gandy Bridge & Weedon Island area in Tampa Bay, Florida. On this particular day the wind was blowing from the East which makes it a bit windy. You can seek cover in mangroves but I knew the fish were on the flats.

Always try both the flats and the cuts when fishing the Weedon Island area. Live bait will get you more fish in this area because of how pressured this spot can be on a regular basis.

  1. Have you found the deep holes near where you are, there are 2 of them easy to see on google earth 3d. I have 130AH of battery power on my kayak, all day power. I can fix that rod. I live on the water near the kayak launch on the other side of weedon island, this is my back yard but not my favorite place to fish. I fish a grass flat protected by a sand bar preventing boats from getting in and preventing schools of predator fish from getting in, because of that this 2 square mile grass flat is a carpet of bait fish of all kinds. It has a very old boat channel through it providing deep grass edges that fill up with fish. Yesterday I caught a fish every cast for 3 hours in that spot.

  3. Thanks for being one of the few local people doing vids to mention the trash issue. Was at Gandy a few weeks ago and it was a mess. Went to Bay View park, same thing. Next time out I will bring a trash bag and do my part. Others should to.
