How to Be Struck When Entering a Catholic Church | LITTLE BY LITTLE | Fr Columba Jordan CFR

How many times do you walk into a church? Once a year, week or day? Every time, there is an unimaginable amount of grace available, if we just engage our faith. Fr Columba explains door liturgies, why we make the sign of the cross when we enter, what it means to do that with holy water, and how a church can help us to prepare for Heaven, the place it’s made to point us to.

  1. Fr. Columba you rang a bell in my mind when you said you are called up to Limerick where my family is from. I wonder if you are related in some way to Fr Liam Jordan from Wexford, now in Heaven, he was a very good priest and friend.

  2. Sad you're leaving Yorkshire but Ireland is the next best place! I hope you are taking Gerry with you. I shall look up that church and maybe visit too. So many churches falling into disrepair these days, but I think of Saint Francis and what he achieved. Good talk- I remember houses being blessed by a priest and we had a holy water stoop too for a while in the house. Take care and God bless.

  3. LOVE THIS SO MUCH … The holy water remitting venial sin … I was told it doesn't remit sin, but it strengthens us in the fight against sin but the Blessed Sacrement does remit venial sin

  4. The one thing I know for certain is that the Lord is not calling anyone into Catholicisms dark religious practices. What ever sincere desire to serve the Lord? Look for it outside the paganism of Rome.

  5. Great information, thank you Father, you always answer a question that is on my mind. The other day my (discerning) hubby asked me about the holy water font and now you’ve given me the answer!

  6. Thank you for wonderful videos! A year or more back Fr Columba mentioned the error of Janesium and the Catholic Church in Ireland, and through Irish immigrants this error coming to USA Catholic Church. Could you recommend further reading or elaborate on this? In light of so many lapsed Catholics, and in particular with death of Sinead O’Connor a famous lapsed Catholic who was filled with pain and described the faith of her youth teaching her that “all were unworthy and the joyless priests were beyond reproach.” Which obviously is not true Catholic faith but so many could benefit from hearing explanation. I wish Sinéad could have met a priest like Fr Columba. May God have mercy on her soul, and on all the faithful departed, and on us here on Earth.

  7. REASONS WHY THE CHURCH OF CHRIST IS THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH

    1. You can read about it in the New
    Testament. (MATTHEW 16:18;
    ROMANS 16:26; ACTS 4:12)

    2. It has no creed but the Bible, binds
    no name on members but Christ’s.
    (ACTS 12:26; l PETER 4:16)

    3. Its acts of worship are patterned
    after New Testament examples.
    (JOHN 4:24; ACTS 20:7;
    I CORINTHIANS 16:1-2; EPHESIANS
    5:19; COLOSSIANS 3:16)

    4. It teaches that UNITY can be
    achieved on all doctrinal disputed
    questions. (JOHN 27:21;
    I CORINTHIANS 1:10; EPHESIANS
    4:4-6)

    5. Its future: Eternal Glory with Christ.
    (I THESSALONIANS 4:17;
    MATTHEW 7:14)

    YOU CAN’T BE SAVED ANY OTHER WAY

    There’s just one way to the pearly gate,
    to the crown of life and the friends who wait.
    Tis that old cross road and the way called strait,
    there’s just one way to the pearly gate.

  8. I am 71 and when I was little, my Mom used to tell me that when I entered a Church I should look for the Sanctuary Light and I would know that Jesus was there. She talked often about how empty Protestant Churches are – because they don’t have a Tabernacle and a Sanctuary Light – Jesus is not there in the Eucharist. I still to this day – look for the Light. Thank you, Mom. Rest in peace.

  9. Last night at Mass I felt such peace and joy. And I knew it wouldn’t last once I stepped back outside afterwards. I want it to last, but there’s no peace outside that equals what I experience inside the church.
    As I drove home an idea or image came to me. Being in the church is like climbing out of a choppy, stormy ocean into a snug, safe and cozy boat. It’s a respite from the challenge of treading water. The outside world is like an ocean—sometimes calm and breathtakingly beautiful, but sometimes challenging, scary, exhausting—wave after wave crashing over us, and us hanging onto the rock of our faith for dear life.
    My sweet church, where I can rest and find a special kind of refuge with my Father, with my Jesus.
    Thank You God for churches.

  10. I love this. I have been assailed numerous times by people throwing the cliche: "If the Catholic Church sold all its trappings and gave the money to the poor…blah, blah…" The beauty of our Catholic churches – the traditional churches, not the hideous modern things – takes us to a place of peace here on earth so that we can imagine the peace and joy of Heaven. Bless you , Father.
