Great dig picking a cubist painting of Hitler.
No one should be able to take everything. As well as hurt innocent people. The original jitbag little boy coward. Philadelphia USA
I mean tbqh they did own a lot of art……
Threatening to burn all the art unless collectors bought it is a pretty clever move. Also, you can’t really call him a failed or mediocre artist, as he was better than the vast majority of humans.
There not lost or hidden they’re in Russia
In the title, shouldn't the plural of Nazi be Nazis without the apostrophe?
True
The film 'The Monuments Men' goes into this story in a really fascinating way. The book of the same name that came before the film was much better again – an absolute must read! Tells the story of the Allied military unit of that name which Simon refers to. Truly unsung heroes of the war!
Actually they preserved alot of the art and history treasures. Go to Prague in czech and take a look at rhe public library. They actually did one good thing there : preserving the nations history and 500 year old books.
Everything is Hitler did to the Jews had been done to them 200 times before by 200 different leaders…
And judging by your words, you would have been on Hitler's side at the moment, because you love authority.
Great documentary called the Rape of Europa about this. I think it may be on Netflix in US.
Everybody forgets, or leaves out, that the guy who rejected him from art school was Jewish.
There are priceless artworks in attics, basements, barns, private libraries. I have no doubt some of the lesser known pieces have been sold and bought at garage sales.
The war ended in 1945. It is now 2022; 77 years later. I see these possibilities: 1) some art was smuggled out of post-war Europe in the confusion and is in private hands.2) Some was sunk in deep lakes or hidden in mineshafts / caves; where exactly and what is long forgotten. 3) The war was really destructive and some of it is lost forever. 4) Some may be hiding in museum basements, lofts of barns, and other such places few people ever actually go; crated up and forgotten.
A case was made on Quora that, far more than looted art and the the disappearance in billions in precious metals that disappeared from Germany at the end of WW 2, itself often stolen from other nations, was intellectual theft of all the scientific and technological innovations that the victorious nations acquired afterwards. This was further exacerbated by Operation Paperclip and its Soviet counterpart where German scientists and technicians were sent to either the US or the Soviet Union to contribute to their new masters development. Few of these scientists returned to German academia, thereby failing to help Germany maintain a scientific edge, having a multi-generational effect on both Germany and Europe.
I wanted that art was destroyed accidentally are intentionally
I had heard that a lot of it was smuggled out of Europe heading for America. Gold helped the American economy and art is in private collectors, collections.
Also, error: the "Fuhrermuseum" was going to be in Linz, Hitler's "hometown".
jackanory
It’s in Argentina
You didn't cover many of the works stolen from the Russian front. the most famous being the Amber Room, and a good deal more.
If you steal something that was stolen from you is it really stealing?
