  1. Anybody else think Dan Campbell is vocally separated at birth with (Chris Farley's) Matt Foley? I would love to hear Dan Campbell utter the Phrase…"In a van down by the river!"

  2. Also think about the QB's we lost to in our last 5 conference championship losses. Doug Williams, Chris Chandler, Kerry Collins, Nick Foles …. and Drew Brees. Other than Brees, 4 borderline backups, so talk about pissing away opportunities. We made Chandler, Collins, and Foles all look like Joe Montana.

  3. 19 titles / 57 years since merger = 33% title rate
    2 titles / 4 Zimmer years, pre-kirk = 50% title rate
    0 titles / 4 Zimmer years, with kirk = 0% title rate
    2 titles / 8 Zimmer years, total – 25% title rate
1 title / 5 kirk years = 20% title rate (the other four were not even close; closest finish 3 games out of 1st in the NFCN)

Starting in 1970 (for even numbers), there was only one 5-year span where the Vikings did not win their division (2001-2005). In all other years, they won between 1 and 4 division titles every five years. Objectively then, the kirk era five years have been the low water mark on title win rate, except for 2001-2005.

The era has been an objective failure given his cost. We won 2 titles in the 3 years before him using inexpensive QBs. 1/5 since, with unprecedented QB cost in terms of % of the cap in those five years. That cost drained the coffers for the rest of the roster, thus the degradation in the defense, OLine, etc.

I am not a Zimmer stan, not even close, yet a sub-population of Vikings fans want to pretend the QB is great and put blame on anything else. Well, can you really put blame on Zimmer, who won titles 50% of the time before kirk? Can you put the blame on the OLine, even though their sub-par pass protection grades are related his lack of mobility? (How can they be so good at run blocking, but not pass blocking? Maybe the QB plays a role in that.) Can you blame the defense, when your defense was consistently great in the years before kirk, but degraded is some degree because it was starved of good free agents once the QB position was taking up 15-20% of the cap.

Let this be the last year. Please. It's a largely failed era, and it's time to try something else.

  4. I think it's ironic that in 3 consecutive NFCCG losses ('77 '87 and '98) we would've played the Broncos in the SB. It would've been the Ravens, Colts, and Patriots in the last 3. So 6 straight CC losses after 4 straight SB losses.

  5. It’s crazy that regime after regime that comes in with this team doesn’t realize that the closest we’ve gotten to championships is always when we have a good QB, but they all seem to think that all u need is a ok QB with a great team around him. Well how well did that work for all of em??…. Il wait….. yep that’s what I thought… still no SB wins!!! 😂😂😂

  6. We were robbed in 1998 and 2009. Both years were our years. 1998 Dennis Green and the kicker were paid off by gamblers. 2009 we not only had to beat the Saints but also the refs who did not call a fair game.

  7. I'm 71 – I have witness all four of the Viking Super Bowl losses. If the Vikes ever get to the Super Bowl again in my lifetime I will have to be sedated before the game – Think how apprehensive this fan base would be, leading up to that game, worrying about loses a 5th one!!. I think being a lifetime Vikings fan is God's way of preparing you, while your living, for hell. 😂

  8. I saw the last three Viking Super Bowls. The loss to the Dolphins was heartbreaking considering how the Vikings had dominated the Cowboys the NFC championship game two weeks earlier. The next year, the Viking defense played a very good game, but mistakes and turnovers by the offense and special teams doomed them (plus a fumble that was mistakenly called down by the refs on the Steelers final scoring drive). As for the Raiders loss, if the Vikings don't fumble away the ball on the Raider two yard line when the game was scoreless, that game would have winnable. I love Bud Grant, but the reality is that he was outcoached in all four Super Bowls (especially against the Chiefs, who they had no business losing to). It really hurts to say that, but it's the truth.

  9. I think the biggest problem with the SB losses is opposing teams knew if they schemed against Chuck Foreman you basically stopped 70% of The Vikings offense. They were a "tough finesse team" masquerading as a smash mouth team but when they actually played a smash mouth team in a neutral stadium without the cold/home field advantage they got manhandled in the trenches pretty much every time.

  10. Mackey is SO DUMB. His presents an argument to BASH and HATE on Kirk what's new but the FACTS show that you do not need a great QB to win a SB. He said it himself Bradshaw was never a great QB he had seasons where he throw more ints then tds for eg. Foles won a SB Dilfer won a SB Hostetler won a SB those are QBs who were so BAD they could not even win starting jobs in the NFL ffs what a dummy a washed up Plunkett won 2 SBs a very average Eli Manning won 2 SBs the one thing that is clear is you do not need an elite QB to win a SB. But you will NOT win a SB with a #31 defense or with the 2 WORST Pass Pro Guards in the NFL. What Mackey is twisting to shit on Kirk actually PROVES we can win a SB with Kirk. Why because QBs worse than Kirk QBs who couldn't even be starters in the NFL won SBs. What we need to win a SB is a good team. We had a great Hall of Fame QB in Tarkenton and LOST 3 SBs with him… why because our defense and offense and luck were not good enough. Winning SBs is NOT about the QB. Mackey's hate overcomes common sense and rational though and facts every time his feelings against Kirk always come out.

  11. I would like to add a comparable analysis that is equally depressing, maybe even worse. If you look at the number of times each team has made the playoffs since the start of the Super Bowl era you would wind up with a fairly comparable listing, except the Vikings would sit at third place on that list behind only the Steelers and Cowboys. (Each of those top three teams would be the only three to have had more than 30 playoff appearances in this time frame). In like fashion, the teams ahead of and behind Vikings all have multiple Super Bowl wins. You would come to the same conclusion and analysis but it's just another way to see the improbability of Viking futility.

  12. 2008 and 2015 were underrated opportunities. Cardinals and Eagles in ‘08. Imagine any other QB instead of T-Jack and compare rosters. Walsh missing against the team that ended up in the Super Bowl. I don’t think we beat the Pats but there was a lot of potential. I don’t understand how the world can gift us these fortunate paths and the Vikings just find ways to squander it

  13. If Blair Walsh makes the FG against Seattle then I thought the Vikings would have made the SB. The Vikings matched up well against the Panthers. Don't know if they could have beaten the Broncos though.

  14. Having endured all four Super Bowls the Chiefs loss we should have been much better.

But versus The Fish – Csonka, that was a team of destiny. They just smashed us. 17 zip and the half and a fumble at their 6 just at the half. Griese only threw 7 passes and converted 6! Csonka just killed us.

Then the Steelers. Despite Franco Harris running all over us, even better than Csonka, we managed to stay in the game. But we had about 115 yards of offence! Shocking. Joe Greene looked like he was in our offensive game plan. Fran threw 3 picks. Again the Steel Curtain made them a team of destiny.

Then we roll into the West Coast the face another team of destiny. The Raiders just couldn’t get over the hump, miracle receptions etc. Well Davis and Van Eeghen just killed us. We were inversely terrible. Again multiple picks by Fran and the running attack was dreadful.

Younger fans need to understand we have been absolutely dreadful in these big games.

Personally I think it was because we played so many teams who knew they had to win, we just made up the numbers. When Dave Casper caught that TD pass I remember thinking we that’s it. And it was.

    What gives me hope?

We have a scalpel and his hame is Jefferson. That is why not getting to a SB with Moss was so tough. He was such an X factor.
But seeing JJ against the Bills last year suggests to me that he could be the key to the door for us.

Lastly that is why the 2009 loss was such a disaster. We would have been the team of destiny and we would have blown the doors off the AFC.

  16. other vikings fans what do you think of this you have to take one or the other 1. a top 5 talent qb or 2. a guaranteed SB but the team is just good but bad/mid qb like keenum or teddy. i personally would take the qb cause id rather have fun knowing the chance of winning every year but maybe not get one

  18. So yeah you guys remembered the 41-0 NFC championship game vs the Giants and if you search it you'll find out that there was an investigation into the Giants listening to our play calling.. I saw it on a sports show I can't remember what show though macafee or something like that but that was one of the most frustrating things I have ever seen in my life… the highest scoring offense in the world couldn't get a FIELD GOAL…I hate the fricking new york teams yeah fk both of them especially now that Hairon Rodgers is playing football for the Jets 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮
