For anyone who reads the timeline as '2277 The Fall of Shady Sands' and DOESN'T think that is referring to the LITERAL NUKE that dropped on the city……..when do we refer to the destruction of Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Is it Pearl Harbour or when America dropped a nuke on them? Moreover, even if you contort your brain to somehow think that makes sense.
Is it really better that the NCR was destroy by this Vault employee instead of the political forces that several games tried to build up? It doesn't bother you that they NUKED something that made these games actually interesting?!
The state of New Vegas on show reminds me of dead money secret ending. However Elijah and Mr. House endings are basically canceling each other (or canon Courier was gigachad playing 5D chess)
NCR WILL LIVE!
from today today:
"One of the takes that we always have is to approach things very locally when we're doing Fallout. We're careful about saying what's going on in other parts of the world. And we always take this view of, communication is difficult. And look, if you look at the background, the NCR is a wide-ranging sort of organization and group across not just California, but other places. So the show focuses on this period of time and this group here, and that's what we can say right now. But I don't think you've heard the last of the NCR"
My thoughts were this. The 2277 "fall" was a shortage of some kind of resource. That's why 4 years later the Battle of Hoover Dam was so important for the NCR. In the case of New Vegas looking rather run down it could either be reusing assets (something we know US TV shows do frequently) or neither the NCR or House won the Battle of Hoover Dam. This could in theory mean the Yes Man or the Caesar ending is canon. What we're shown doesn't automatically imply that New Vegas (and FO1 and FO2 by extension) aren't canon, just that it not be the ending we thought was canon.
It's all entirely up to speculation until we get Season 2, though. I think they knew this was going to get people talking and devised it to be the way it is on purpose, but I'm just hoping that those of us doubting it retconned New Vegas are right.
Just seems like Todd just mad that he cant make good fallout game and tries to erase all games made by interplay from fallout history
Would you say they did a better job adapting the game over Paramount's Halo?
Also, I really appreciate the backstory you gave of the older games as well as the comparison with the show's world building. I have only ever played Bethesda titles, mostly BF4, and I really enjoyed the show. If someone never said the show was canon then there would be nothing to stew about. I will say, it's gotta be very hard adapting a game to a TV show. It's also hard being a fan and seeing your fave IP get diced up. I'm sorry the old guard took the L on this one.
At the end of the day whatever bethesda decide it isnt ccannon without the people who made new vegas chris and Sawyer not involved? who cares what their headcannon is if they cant simple maintain the timeline right in a show for starters
Where the hell is freeside
All right peeps, don't bite my head off for this. I am not 100% mad about the ending of the NCR. I can tell a lot of people don't like that a vault based nuke is what caused their eventual demise. But here is why it doesn't bother me than an outside power started the collapse. I love studying history, and very few demises of empires actual start from internal conflict boiling over into all out, multi-factional civil war that leaves total devastation. Those internal conflicts are certainly a huge part of the process, but they are seldom the start. Often, it is a foreign or external source, invading, raiding, outtrading, or conquering a city, a capital, a region, or a leader, and the subsequent imperial corruption, lack of unification, and lack of trust in the empire, coupled with warlord mentalities amongst military powers, all culminate in the destruction of an empire. It is a process that certainly can start with the collapse of a single city, especially the total annihilation of a capital city. Personally, im not usually a fan of retcons, but it doesn't hurt me as much that shady sands was relocated because fallout 1 was the game I played 4th in the series, after 3, then the superior new Vegas, then 2, then 1. Locational retconning may be something we have to live with, it sucks, but its not everything I don't feel. No one, even hardline fans of the NCR myself, would claim that they were not a doomed state. They were doomed. Do I like that vault tec is this new bad guy that started the events that caused the doom? Im not really too happy with faceless robot corporations being the big baddie, however, its unlikely that vault tec would be taking a lesser role in the lore, and we do finally at least have a goal/philosophy, even if its not what I preferred. The reason I am giving the team behind the show the beinifit of the doubt on new vegas season 2, is because they have truthfully pulled something off that I thought was objectively impossible. Despite retconns and the pain people feel over them, the show as a standalone is really damn good. I have tons of people who have watched it in my life who love it. And right now, with the last name in the series being the garbage microtransaction that was 76, the IP needed help, and this show is as faithful as incredible as it possible could be I feel, at least while serving under their despicable bethesda overlords. How many of you expected to laugh at this show? To watch gleefully as a chemed up ghoul who couldnt be more well cast, gibbs a load of townies with a handcannon. I personally try not too doomsday on the future potential of projects that have pulled off such quality when no one expected it to be well acted, well cast, not look like horseshit. New vegas could rationally have got got tunneled in by da scally boiis, and be a new hellhole watched over by a man with a flagpole spear and some dope ass dreads, or House could still be there, perhaps distraught that his at times absurd goals of lunar colonization and totalitarian rule over a techno-utopia may have in fact been the dreams of a brilliant but arrogant megalomaniac, he doesn't have to be bland.
I bet the enclave gave hank a direct order to destroy shady sands

Papa todd had to step in so you new vegas fan boys can calm your tits.
My honest hopes are that the NCR still exists in some form farther to the North, Vegas isn't the ruin that it's being teased as and House isn't a one-dimensional asshole who isn't anything like the game version we had.
The fact the show is made for brotherhood of steel fans.
I genuinely refuse to believe that New Vegas would fall, at least not fully. Perhaps most of it, but I don’t think House would be weak enough or stupid enough to completely fail.
how could house still be alive if i made him a mashed potato?
Not all but enough to piss off every New Vegas fan there is lol
Aged like fine milk.
I do hope House survives but I worry the show will ruin his character and I’m so disappointed at the state of new vegas we see at the end of the show
Bethesda has never really hidden their distain for Obsidian's success in the Franchise
Don't forget lonesome road Ulysses says in 15 years new vegas will be over run by tunnelers and be ended
The Fallout tv show is obviously made for normies and the modern audiences. It's one gigantic middle finger to the Fallout established lore/fans of the game series.

The fall of Rome = not one day.
The fall of Shady Sands = not one day.
Bomb drops later after the decline of shady sands after it was removed as capital of the NCR. Not for strategic reasons but seemingly at the whim of a jealous husband.
They should have just made short stories based on in game characters instead of ducking with cannon the survivalist could have been a great episode that would have been easy and less messy
The fall of shady sands doesn’t mean that they were bombed that year it means some event happened that caused them to start going down hill. Shady sans was bombed after the events of new Vegas. And the NCR aren’t just in California only the NCR and Los Angeles are weak and dying. The Ncr is not dead im sure they will return❤. As for new vegas can someone shine some light on that for me, is yes-man in charge, is Mr. house. Did Ulysses bomb new Vegas while the courier was in big mountain. Tf happen, I don’t mind and I’m sure they’ll find a workaround But Man. Overall I think it was a really good show.
That weirdo was not House, did the showrunners not see what House looked like? Why can't shows cast people who actually look like the character they're playing, you can't just slap a moustache on someone and say, look it's House.
Would be a waste to use new Vegas if it's going to be dead anyways
I'd say that the date doesn't really matter as long as it can fit to some viable year that makes sense. saying "2277" doesn't mean that NCR wasn't around during New Vegas story, it just means that they wrote the wrong date.
Yes it's annoying and a mistake, but it's nitpicky to care about it when the year can easily be adjusted.
Your argument about shady sands is wrong.
Look at the wiki article it states "Soon after the events of Fallout: New Vegas which was set in 2281, Shady Sands was destroyed by a nuclear bomb on the orders of Hank MacLean, a Vault-Tec executive and overseer of Vault 33, in order to hide the truth of the surface world from Vault 31, 32, and 33's inhabitants"
Then in the timeline in 2882 states :
"Shady Sands, the first capital of the New California Republic, is destroyed in a atomic blast[Non-game 180] launched by Hank MacLean and Betty Pearson in order to kill Rose MacLean before revealing the true purpose of the Societal Preservation Program"
Stop spreading wrong information .
What the Fallout TV show does is a retcon but not in the usual way that we would expect it.
It isn’t a retcon where it directly says that what happened didn’t happen, instead something else happened. It is a retcon in the sense that it changes the present in such a way that it wouldn’t have mattered what the past was to begin with. Fallout 1, 2, and NV don’t matter because Shady Sands will be nuked, and Vegas and the NCR will collapse back into the wasteland, with the only unifying force being… the Brotherhood of Steel… yay…
I really hate that people are defending this change. These "fans" are not true Fallout fans. They are Bethesda shills.
LOL looks like youre wrong LOL!!!!! ign just did an interview and all you crybabies are wrong, there was no retcon like everyone was saying. turns out you people are on a Bethesda witch hunt
Tbh new vegas gives us multiple ways that vegas can fall soon after the ending so there are so many ways it could’ve ended up this way without breaking the lore, even though it’s sad. I hope we get to see the tunnelers again.
It’s just a matter of budget for them. If something is thriving in the TV show, it means hiring for people, designing vibrants communities etc. It’s better to just nuke everything and let them wander a minimalistic world as possible. Honestly I think Fallout would most benefit from a hard core anime than a TV show, although I liked the later even with the woke crap in it.
I bet it’s going to be the courier who is running new Vegas with yes man in season 2
It is a retcon, because the New Vegas game is not a sequel, so they say lol.
its because yes man won.
Yeah it's so over, the show was good but entirely retconning the best installation in the series?💀
Bethesda having the gall to canonize this show clearly shows they are actively distancing themselves from earlier games.
I always thought of Mr. House as possibly the most antagonistic force in fo:nv, but he has the charisma to convince people playing the game that he wasn't some murderous autocrat looking after no one but himself. The dude has no right to be alive, he's one of the privileged few with the resources to thrive after end of the world, who's to say he didn't orchestrate nuclear warfare to further his own goals? One look at his obituary shows he practically lives inside his own ass, he does not care about anyone unless they are standing in his way. When someone like that commands an army of titanium super soldiers that are physically incapable of feeling remorse for their actions, I really wouldn't be surprised if he turns into a moustache twirling super villain the moment all the forces that can resist him are out of the picture.
Wonder if vegas will get hit with the red cloud in the new season.
The rumors that bethesda hate new vegas cause its so popular
I don’t think the whole strip is destroyed. My guess is what’s shown is a part like Freeside that has been war torn but the strip itself is still alive and well
