  1. I have a rules idea for overtime. No coin toss, no kickoff. Instead, the teams negotiate starting field position. IE, the team willing to start the farthest back gets the ball there.

  2. They really should just drop the kick off all together. Just implement the Schiano Proposal at this point. 4th and 15 or 20 from the kicking team's 30-35. Penalties for extra points can either push the line of scrimmage back or extend the line of gain farther making conversions harder. These new kick off rules just feel ridiculous at this point.

  3. I expect a slight bump in ankle/calf injuries on players who are getting tackled from behind due to the hip drop ban. I bet you'll be seeing people straight up diving at player's ankles and just bear hugging them until they fall down.

What i think should happen with offsetting penalties is that any amount of yardage equally lost by each team cancels each other out [so in a game between SF and AZ, if the 49ers commit a 15 yard penalty and the Cardinals commit a 10 yard penalty, the 49ers move back 5 yards, with the other 10 yards of their penalty being canceled out (or "offset" in football talk) by the 10 yard penalty by Arizona]

  5. Watch "Kickoffs are stupid and bad | Chart Party" by the channel Secret Base.
Kickoffs should be replaced with punts. Maybe 4th and 15 from the 20 or 25. We can adjust the numbers.
What you don't want is too easy to convert if they try a fake, but possible so it is exciting.
We don't want coffin corner punts where teams start the game backed up inside the 10, so that was why I said the punt from the 25, and punts average about 60 air yards from NFL punters is 85 yards, or caught on the 15-20 or so, with a fair catch. Directional punts and shanked punts can help the team getting the ball.
    Blocked punts.
    Muffed punts.
    Bad snaps to the punter.
Roughing the punter can give a first down to the team that was punting and a momentum shifting "change of possession" in terms of starting the game and starting over time.

  7. while potentially dangerous the hip drop tackle is way safer than most other forms of tackling. leg injuries suck but with the exception of alex smith their usually not life threatening. the best way to hit people is going to be hitting as hard as possible in the torso. oh wait kareem jackson is proof that even thats not acceptable. additionally people have injjured their leg not even playing. von miller blew his achilles walking off the field from a no pads practice

I’ve kinda been sold on the idea of penalizing based on results rather than actions

If you injure another player you’re penalized

But if you do a move that may be dangerous but it doesn’t lead to any injury you are fine.

I don’t like that quarterbacks who are roughed but can still play perfectly fine

  9. 35:20 and that’s absolutely how the owners look at it

It’s about the safety of their investments

Which is why a solution that would make players safer but might cost owners more money

    Like removing field turf

    Won’t be considered
