This is nonsense, because we need to focus on colonizing our solar system first. We are too tied to infrastructure, so interstellar flights are not yet possible and unprofitable. At least because we don't have nuclear fusion yet
Getting us out there would be great, but establishing compatible biospheres for colonization is an even bigger step. Everything in an alien biosphere is probably poison to us, and vice versa.

I would miss the wind, our sky, the sea and all the wonderful life on Earth.
I used to dream up these scenarios, too (asteroid belt mining, nuclear propulsion in space becoming commonplace, unbelievable telescopes, etc.)
That is, until I started to realize, Feminism, Marxism, democracy (every idiot having a say), corporatism, globalism, environmentalism, etc are bringing about a VERY serious demographic collapse (Elon himself admits to this)
The challenges of the future are probably gonna be very, VERY different, than those that futurists often love to dream about.
That's means china will dominate moon .
The biggest issue I don't see people talking about is entropy… No matter how advanced we get stuff will break and if you can't gather resources to do repairs then you won't get very far. We will somewhat concur our solar system and maybe we find some exotic materials that will change the future
Trips to Mars are currently NOT when Earth and Mars are "closest" as stated in the video. It is when Earth and Mars will be lined up for a minimum energy Hohmann transfer orbit, which is an elliptical solar orbit that has a maximum distance from the sun at the orbit of Mars.

I could see a future Starship variant with some type of new engine perhaps nuclear in nature.
The future is bright but the path has yet to be lit.
When and how, for now after forty years of trying, no Earthling can survive the conditions of the moon, how many centuries will it take to survive on Mars.
SpaceX should create some type of structure in space. Where they can dock 6 or more Starships in circle and use its own thrusters to create artificial gravity. This would help on long trips for astronauts to stay healthy and safe. if anything goes wrong in any Starship they can just ditch it and transfer everything to another Starship and continue with their mission and also they can land multiple Starships anywhere in our solar system.
Edit.. Another thought came to my mind if they're gonna go nuclear propulsion. They should build the propulsion system in the center of the structure, so they don't have to beef up each starship from radiation inside.
In the past 4–5 years, Elon is a liability to any company he is involved in. He is too terminally online, too petty, too thin-skinned and too egocentric.
It would be interesting building 1000 star ships as the improvements between the first and the last and how would you work on maintaining the differences for the passengers who gets the "old" ones and less features interesting

To orbit, you need the speed of about 28,000 km/h, or about Mach 25.
How could NASA propel something of size and weight of 737 in 1980s to such speed?
Can they do that now?

If you look at other orbital spacecrafts, the crew modules are tiny compared to the rocket.
If you look at the Space Shuttle, the Orbiter is huge compared to the rocket.

We still don't know enough about living on another planet and id be surprise if human presence is even pass the moon by 2100… Maybe we will be able to send human on Mars for a few days as soon as the race to land on Mars start but that's about it.
This can be accomplished just as easily with global contributors. But, most of these nerds getting the funding have a fetish with seeing, whatever, in places we will never go. At this point there's likely been trillions spent on 'gawking at stars'… Enough.

LMAO at the idea of using Mars as a base to mine asteroids… might as well use the Florida Keys as a base to mine in Utah.
Mars has somethings asteroids do not, starting with a gravity well that is expensive to get out of, more expensive than the moon and less expensive that the Earth. In comparison the fuel needed to get to an asteroid is tiny.
Its actually more economical by far to go to an asteroid than to Mars or the Moon !
O'Neill cylinders are the most efficient use of materials for a space colony.
The O'Neil cylinder needs to be thought out a little bit. First off its simple, which makes it easier to build. It also looks to be the most practical design of the lot.
Mining the moon should only be done to use those resources ON the Moon. Only for the logistical reason that the Moon's gravity well makes it too expensive to haul stuff away. It is much cheaper and easier to basically dock with any of the thousands of asteroids within the orbit of Mars (or a million+ of them in the asteroid belt). The smallish ones of 10km or less in size (which is the overwhelming majority of them) have barely enough gravity to hold themselves into a pile of rubble (dust, pebbles, rocks, and boulders). This makes them super easy to mine.
The only stuff you need to haul up from Earth (or possibly the Moon) is the original mining/refining equipment and equipment to build more equipment.
And as long as you're at an asteroid full of the materials you're after, you may as well just build a space habitat on the spot and save all that effort of moving stuff around. In fact, if you put a big bag around an asteroid and spin it a bit faster, it will come apart and be on the sides of the bag. THAT is even easier to mine, its like a ravine in Minecraft, you just walk along until you see what you want. This hollow asteroid is now doubling as a shield against space radiation and random rocks zipping around…. so you'd want to build your O'niell Cylinder space habitat inside that nice cozy hollow.
Colonizing the Galaxy has already been done many millions of years ago. All inhabitable planet already seeded by drones and star gates placed so that humans may travel between planets. Something happened along time ago that caused the travel too stop except for a group that is carnivore and eats everything periodically. Earth Humans are along time off from being able too travel from star too star and it takes so long that only Drones can do it.

Sending a robot with AI and a science lab with a lot of materials is how we could possibly seed life on another planet.
Problem with Asteroid mining is economics. The value of a resource is determined by its relative scarcity. One thousand quadrillion dollars becomes pennies when the supply of those metals is multiplied by a thousand. Unless you are also engaged in future tech mega structure building on an extra planetary scale, what are you going to do with a hunk of antimony the size of Delaware?
There's a huge gap in technological advancements between nuclear fission drive and an antimatter one. Like, with fission we can actually imagine how to build one, today, but with antimatter one we aren't anywhere close and is more along the lines of science fiction for now. I would imagine the much better tack is to invest in nuclear fusion drive as an interim if we are serious about it.
