If the backstory told here is to be believed, then that balcony scene orchestrated by Charles was Exhibit-A of the day the future king had shot himself in his own foot, because, today when many among his limited working royals are rendered infirm, himself and his queen CONSORT included, he eventually needed back the services of The Edinburghs, the elder Gloucesters and the Duke of Kent (plus Princess Beatrice of York, occasionally) as we've seen during his coronation and until now.

    Narrow-minded Charles who dreamt of a narrowed-down royal family, devoid of keen foresight and administrative acumen, has now swallowed what he had once vomited. He'd better learn from the results of his own folly.

  2. Slim down family won’t work. If you start neglecting the common wealth that will give them all the excuse they need to leave the royal family and by time George becomes king the only thing he will have to rule over is England.
