This is a revised and updated version of a video first published in August 2021.
It makes me wonder if his power over air influenced the eagles and their willingness to help. They played critical roles at very pivotal times, and just as gandalf's ring have him the ability to inspire others, maybe elrond's let him inspire creatures of the air to his aid.
I read "The Hobbit" back in the 1960's, read TLoTR, Silmarillion, some of the Lost Tales, and still cannot wrap my mind around Elrond having a red silk handkerchief to loan to Bilbo. And did Bilbo return it? Or was he always mooching off him?
I've said he should've played roose bolton in game of thrones because of book description
Didn't the sons of Elrond stick around in Rivendell for the beginning of the Fourth Age ?
It is interesting to compare and contrast the Tolkien's concept of Power comparing Elrond vs. Sauron but also what we today view as power (a.k.a. money and control over others).
He mostly use His Air powers to Epically and Heroically move the hair of the fellowship….
I am really sorry. What you write is great, but your narration is unbearable
I love his line “What good is a phone call if you are unable to speeeak.”
If I could live in any part of Middle-earth, it would hands-down be Rivendell. To me it says a lot about Tolkien's regard for Elrond that Sam has such praise for the last Homely House. Not to mention that the Fourth Age is not held to have begun until Master Elrond's departure from the Grey Havens. He's part of a line that played a pivotal role in the First and Second Ages, and when he leaves it means that age of myth has ended. His ring is associated with air, which is the realm of Manwë. To me it suggests that Tolkien considered wisdom to be a greater power than magic or skill in battle. If so, that would make Elrond at least as powerful as Galadriel and Gandalf. Maybe even as powerful as Sam.
Mr. Anderson…
Maybe Michael Ironside would have made a good Elrond… Or a good Sauron… or a good Strider.
Is it possible Celebrimbor fell for Anatar’s ruse because his grandfather fell for Melkor’s lies?
They absolutely nailed his casting, though. Hugo Weaving was the perfect Elf-human combo, authoritative and almost gruff at times but graceful and elegant all the same.
You are fun.
In Tolkien, wisdom is power. This is oppose to force which Sauron believe is power.
First, the epic is great, because it touches, but does not write in great expanse what happen in other regions in the war. Casual readers do not realize that Elrond and Galadriel took part in the war. This was the mistake of Peter Jackson. I was not happy to see Elves fight at Helms deep. If he had to, he should of shown that the Elves were fighting the dark lord, and can not send help Made it clear that Sauron sent forces to attack all the free people. I was always curious what was Elrond, and why do everyone go to him He was not King. even though he seems to rule Rivendell. I think it was right that he was a mere lord, and yet seem to not be commanded by anyone higher. That he is wise and not seek power or glory. Although I felt Cirdan was missing from the story. It might be Cirdan was Elrond's king, but they seem to rule independent.
"Galadriel was a lot less engaged (with Sauron)"
Whaaaaaa? Didn't she hunt him for centuries, save him from drowning, help him in Numenor, help him found Mordor, and almost fall for him??
Have I been misled?? Surely not! After all,.. "back to the book, back to the book, back to the book"
in Charlie Hopkinson, he's very powerful. second only to Gandalf.
Hugo Weaving threaded all through this video and not a single sighting of Robert Aramayo’s portrayal.
IDG Robert is trying to say something, I think.
How did Badahir end up with Aragorn? And why?
Isilduuuuur!
I think it is mandatory to mention Elrond's Father is perhaps the most famous PERSON in the legendarium?
I'm sure it'd warm Tolkien's heart to know that his stories are just as beloved now as they were when he was still around 😊
Robert, “power” as you describe the “abilities” and “magic” of Elrond, Gandalf, and to a lesser extent, Galadriel, is nothing more than “True Power” as Tolkien himself defined It in general: humility, sage counsel, and the prescience never to seek power, or “authority,” over others. It’s a genuinely humanist definition of power, something that, sadly, far, far too many people in 21st century America and Britain have forsaken and forgotten.
Elrond being a magnificent being who is part of all, cares about them all, has duty of care and he carries it with honor.
I wonder if the telepathy mentioned was actually a usage of the Ring of Air? Conveying one's words to someone far away, in secret, seems fitting for a magic of air.
I mean, he couldn’t stop Captain America, so
The real question is who wins Elrond or Agent Smith
Let's remember that Manwe was the King of Kings, and his domain was the sky. It makes sense that the Ring of Air was also the chief amongst its equals.
‘Choice’, that sounds more like an ultimatum….
