From PR superfans to pop culture critics like Nerdrotic, #TheRingsOfPower fiasco has been an interesting case study of what happens when a monolithic corporation takes on the legacy of an age-old fantasy series.

This was a ridiculously big project for my second video essay and a huge pain in the Bag End to put together (both because I don’t generally like discussing identity politics and because scripting, voice acting, and editing took 6 days of non-stop work). Nonetheless, I felt that it would be incredibly valuable for fans of Tolkien to understand all the angles to the recent Rings of Power controversy:
If you enjoyed the video, consider liking it and leaving a comment! It would help greatly. In the future, I’ll be doing roughly 10-minute video essays on topics in literature with book-related shorts posted in between. Coming up next: ‘Microsoft Word is Watching You Sleep’ 💻👀
Great analysis, but perhaps it could have been broken up into shorter parts to make it easier to view (just a suggestion)
The quality of this video is incredible, if I could buy shares in this channel I would.
Really no nonsense, candid breakdown from more than one angle. I hope this channel takes off.
Very unexpected quality here, looking forward to what you've got next in store!
These remakes are absolutely vile
I dunno man, I still feel like people shouldnt rip on something until they've actually tried it, but since so many people are needlessly pushing back against this show its going to convince a lot of them to never even give it a chance, Weve celebrated works in the past that deviated from both the source material and the authors intentions (Stanley Kubrick's The Shining), However this show has effectively been shot in the foot before it even got to get going in the first place, and that makes me sad, because who honestly knows? This show might one day be considered one of the greatest pieces of the Tolkien film universe, or it could be bad, but we'll never know untill we try it.
