  1. I think the bad thing about live service games is the predatory microtransactions. I play FFXIV and am okay with paying the subscription price because I know the money goes back into the game. But battlepasses and loot boxes feel like I need to pay more to get the stuff I want

  2. gets very nostalgic when Asmon talks about RTS games, damn the hours i could spend in RTS games, half the excitement was exploring, then learning the most efficient way to win, by collecting raw materials, building, upgrading, attacking, defending, etc … I miss the feeling of playing a really good RTS game. Age of Empire series, age of mythology. but the absolute best pure war strategy game in that category was Cossacks European Wars.

    But we also had R.U.S.E.

today we see none of these 🙁

  3. Halo 1 got me into gaming. Halo 3 was my life until cod 4. Then i became a cod fanboy. Reach was good but the multiplayer forge maps were trash compared to halo 3s maps. Infinite should have had a BR mode. I remember on halo 1 we would mod the silent cartographer island into a BR gametype and multiplayer map. We would add snow fall for winter and stuff. Halos always been a perfect BR game. As for infinites campaign i felt lonley and bored when playing it and honestly felt ripped off. I regretted buying it and quit halo entirely just from the bad feeling i got from the campaign. Speaking of Halo 1,2,3 and early cod days montages were a big thing to hope people to play. No one makes sick montages with crazy editing and awesome gameplay anymore and its kind of sad. I spent 3 years making my halo 3 montage before i finally quit. Montages need to make a come back.

  4. What does it even mean that "indies killed the AAA industry"? Wasn't it just recently that the latest CoD is the highest selling CoD of all time? How did they kill it? Monetarily? Morally? Artistically?

  5. 26:47 I don't agree.
Age of Empires IV was launched last year.
Age of Empires II and III Definitive had a new expansion on 2020 and 2021 each. (For II: Central Europe and India and for III: Africa and Mediterranean)

    RTS are coming back.

  6. I'm sorry but after Bungie ruined Destiny i'm really sure they would've ruined halo by the same way … not because they are bad, but because once the high level managers start put ridiculous targets and cut things you can't make good things … 🙂

  8. Rts is dead, ignores wargame red dragon, ratten reich, homeworld 3, regiments, planetary anahilation, total war warhammer, broken arrow, battlefleet gothic armada 2, etc. Shows how much you know.

  9. The AAA industry has to jump through too many hoops:

diversity and inclusion, towing the political narrative determined by journalists, microtransactions required by the publisher, constant lawsuits leveled at them because they have so much money that they are constantly targeted by people looking to sue, massive expenses due to huge teams make them risk averse, and factory-like work conditions which make the work boring and a grind, lack of a feeling ownership by devs due to huge teams sizes.. and more

It comes through in the end product

  11. Halo 4 should of been halo online , Halo 3 introduced more story and Advanced map and game mode customization which made it utterly amazing which was SUPER hard to do coming out of Halo 2 which Introduced online clans and the first instance of mass accessibility to online ranked system (pc's were not in anywhere near the # of homes at the time vs xboxs which were the #1 with PS2 Taking #1 time to time for popularity and units sold etc) (Halo GTA or What destiny is now) instead ppl got junk after junk. Halo Online would just be Halo 3 with the map builder but add more maps more models for customizations, more rule sets. And all story is turned into Online DLC which all have special achivement based armor (some harder to get than others) kinda like the hayabusa armor. Competitive ques with a more refined ranking system over time with armor rewards based on ranking being introduced over time. As well as unique game modes that are likely often inspired by community projects (like blitz ball was) But instead, we got Halo 4, then 5, 6 etc….

  12. As an indie dev I keep telling other indies when they first start that mechanics are king, stop trying to buy assets and make it pretty, that crap will not sell.

They wonder why their indie project sucks, and I tell them, strip all these polished assets from your project and so you just have a feel for the mechanics, for if you hate the game and it's not fun, then try to make it fun then, and only then do you earn polished assets, don't try and use polished assets first, because it's harder to tell if you are enjoying the game at a mechanic level, also if you have to change something then that's wastage, I'm here doing my part anyway, and I get so much damn hate for it, because people get offended.

I then tell them, if you're offended now, then wait till you work 3 years on something only to have it bomb, a bit of harsh feedback ain't gonna kill ya, use it as a todo list.

Like right now, I'm making a dumb game, but it's fun, I may keep the assets purposely terrible to prove a point, that you do not need good graphics to make a fun game.
