How Few Companies Control the World With This Tiny Device

There is one vital resource that will make the world go around in the future, and unlike oil, only a few companies will be able to provide it. Check out today’s epic new video to learn about how these tiny devices control literally everything!

  1. if we all can buy the same machine, why some can not make it ? we all know how to spell words, but not everyone is Shakespeare. China has huge market, cheap labor, work hard engineer, if they have same conditions, to run business, they have more chanece to survive. That's why they got sanction by the US.

  2. Although already mentioned by others, the importance of ASML in this seems to be understated. As far as I know anyone making chips on a smaller node than 90nm is using the lithography machines from ASML. China can make their own lithography machines which is an impressive feat of its own, but to do the best of my knowledge these can only do 90nm chips. Moving on from there is extremely difficult and all modern (non Chinese) nodes afaik use EUV (extreme ultraviolet) which was an extremely challenging and expensive gamble for ASML to figure out if they could make it work or not.

As China is blocked from purchasing modern lithography machines from ASML they have no choice but to build their own and that puts them at disadvantage of at least a decade. This is why generally it's considered unlikely for them to ever catch up.

For those that think designing the chips like the US does is some obstacle China can't overcome. That's a much easier challenge Huawei despite all sanctions still made some fairly powerful socs (System On a Chip) for example. You could argue that's thanks to ARM (a British company) but I'm pretty sure that they could pull the same thing off using a RISC-V design.

  3. The us still leads the world to create the smallest chip technology in the lab. Tsmc leads in the pulling together of technology developed by others. If the us wanted to over take tsmc, they could (but they won't) by just restricting the technology transfer. And i agree asml should have been a big part of this video.

  4. The reason the US got so far behind in a lot of areas is due to globalization. I have nothing against having trading partners, but I do think we should be making our own things here. And by things, I mean microchips, mining for rare earth, and transformers for our grid. I think Covid woke most countries up to the frailty of the globalist supply chains. I personally will pay a few extra bucks to purchase made in USA goods.
