  1. Wow it’s much easier to run a fleet in the UK than in Victoria Australia.
    Down under for instance
    # 1: you own more than 5 cars you need a Motor traders license
    # 2 every car needs registration
(road tax) this is done yearly, 1/2 yearly or Quarterly.
No registration = not road legal. We cannot take cars on & off registration
As if a car has sat more than 30 days unregistered it needs a new MOT & therefore a new set of number plates. Which are canceled after 30 days of non payment.
    # 3 insurance depends on what state you live in down under but we all need CTP or third party insurance. Fully comp is optional.
Here in Victoria we pay our CTP as part of our registration bill so hence we need to keep paying registration all of the time to keep it on the road.
So to run 12 cars would cost you
At least £1000 per month minimum as you would have to have all cars registered regardless of how little use they get.

  2. I only have three cars, but i struggle to remember whats what, so a similar system would work for me i think! Also, you have an empty space at the bottom of each of those boards – two new members of the furious fleet incoming…?

  3. An interesting subject Matt, thanks for your update, on the subject of insurance I thought you might have a “traders insurance” where you pay one “umbrella” price and drive any car, but question answered.
The other major expense is the Price of fuel! Obviously you can only drive one vehicle at any given time but if you drive several during the week like the Crown Vic which I’m imagining only does around 20ish to the gallon I can only imagine it’s a major expense.
On the up side though, having a fleet does give you a choice of “steed” as well as never being without transport, plus it’s very good for channel content.

  4. Interesting to see how you tackle this, and how it works in your country. I have two cars: one 19 year old ''modern car'' and a '89 quattro. Last one will never be road tax free, but have it on a classic car insurance. I can suspend the road tax every month. The quattro is during the winter suspended from the road tax. And the daily driver is suspended in the summer months.

  5. I only have 4 cars to worry about and only 2 of them are road legal. I used to have a fleet of Triumph cars on a multi car policy with Footman James with unlimited mileage. Matt, have you considered compiling a "to-do" list for each car? It would give you an idea of how much work would be needed to get each car up and running.

  6. As you test drive other peoples cars why don't you get some trade plates. I know there are some limitations like you can't park on the road with them but anytime you want to give a car a spin you can

  7. Guess you have something akin to a Traders policy for insurance and at least you can do TAX/month now so you can chose the months. Got to be harder for your part-time YouTubers tho'.

When I had to do the company vehicles I timed them all for December, it was the quietest month in our industry and time to catch up. Just had to save the money all year as it was a tight month. Whatever way you don't, got to have a system, especially today as they catch more, and the fines/cost/points are higher to go with it.

Shame the 420GSi is coming off the road again. Had hoped it may have been your car of choice for the social.
The white boards are a good idea.
How many cars did you get up to before things got complicated.

  9. Had a similar stuttering under acceleration issue on a R51 Mini Cooper, after convincing myself it was the coilpack it turned out to be the ignition leads, which was a fair bit cheaper so worth checking those out

  10. You would be jealous of the tax/mot system we have for Club usage here in Australia. We pay $50 per annum for rego/compulsory third party insurance which allows you to drive to any scheduled club events and 60 days per annum of personal usage. You have to log each day in a logbook you keep in the car but 2nd car on is $30 per annum. I have 8 classics and this allows me to basically switch between any of them on a daily basis. Keeping them all roadworthy, well that's a different challenge.

  11. Hi Matt, Is your insurance just a normal company or a specialist, is it a multi car policy or something else, I have no idea who to approach. I actually have two no claims bonus one for 5 years and another for 15, if I could run all my cars off the 15 years policy that would be great but I didn’t realise you could do that.
I’m not asking for a recommendation but I am interested to know if it’s cover I can get from most insurers.
