  1. From the fragments of their mask that was ripp off, obviously. But i wonder…if Aizen gave them asauchi and they seal that fragments of the mask in asauchi…they would be capable of ressureccion, shikai and bankai as well.

  2. Makes sense. Shinigami bring their spirits and draw out their power from within vs Arrancar more gaining humanity through repression. The broken mask forms the blade as a form of repressing their instincts. There's a reason most of their zanpaktou are named after animals due to where they are in the Buddhist reincarnation cycle.
I also think that the Espada's aspect of death isn't just a neat term. I think it describes them and possibly how to evolve them. Ulquiorra and Yammy reaching second forms feel like they tap deep into their respective aspects to reach those forms.

  3. Quite logical actually. If all pluses need a conduit in the form of a Zanpakuto, Schrift or a significant item for Fullbring in order to draw out their inner unique strength, then the minuses do not need this.
When souls become minuses, they are turned inside out. Literally. Their unique appearance as Hollows is already equivalent to the abilities of Zanpakuto and others. So it's no wonder, that when they gain shinigami-like power it's their hollow forms goes inside swords and masks (that represents hollows) become their conduits. It's not for nothing that their release is called "resurreccion". They are literally bring themselves back to who they are.

  4. Makes me wonder if the masks of Nel's fraccion were ever recovered in some state, perhaps by Szayelaporro or devoured by an adjuchas. Ultima didn't seem like a complete zanpakuto.

  5. Thank you for covering this! I've wondered about this for a long time. Based on Kubo's answer, I really wish he hadn't called the Arrancars' swords "zanpakuto" since they don't fit the definition he gave us for that term at all. Even so, Kubo's answer implies that the mask fragments just spontaneously assume the form of a sword.

  6. Espada is the Spanish word of sword.. Espada don't possess zanpaktou coz zanpaktou made out of assauchi while Espada having a sword is like a seal, sealing their true nature as a hollow .. so when they released it they came back to their original form as a hollow and magnified Their power and potential

  7. Doubt anyone would be willing to read this, but this new information got me thinking.

A hollows power resides in the mask, and hollows gain power by consuming souls. Shinigami are bigger targets due to their reiatsu, thus a higher increase in power for the hollow that consumes them. It is relatively safe to assume that higher level hollows typically have higher amounts of shinigami souls.

My idea is that that level of shinigami souls condensed within a hollow's mask is what breaks off to become a zanpakuto, which we know is also made of condensed shinigami souls. This explains why lower level hollows/arrancar releases are less humanoid, as their masks have a lower composition of shinigami souls that they could form into a zanpakuto. The vasto lord is essentially the closest a natural hollow can get to becoming like White through the consumption of powerful souls like shinigami or other hollows who have consumed shinigami, as White is an artificial hollow composed purely of shinigami souls.

This would also mean that a hollow's growth in power is almost directly proportional to the concentration of shinigami souls they have consumed, as shinigami are most likely the most nutritional due to their high inner reiatsu. A hollow that has only consumed a hundred regular souls probably still wouldnt compare to a hollow that ate 20 regular souls plus a shinigami captain for example.

It is the reiatsu they consume that determines a hollow's power level, but it is specifically the level of shinigami souls within a hollow that determines their potential as an arrancar. Due to shinigami souls being much more reiatsu dense than regular souls, it is realistically impossible for a hollow to grow in power without consuming shinigami or hollows that have done so.

Assuming this is how it works, that would also mean that the whole gillian-adjuchas-vasto lorde system we already know about is only the practical evolutionary path of high level hollows, and that hollows that have theoretically reached higher levels of power without consuming shinigami directly or indirectly could take on completely different forms despite matching the divisions of the known hollow hierarchy in power level, while still not being able to turn into an arrancar due to not having any concentration of shinigami souls within their mask to form into a zanpakuto and seal their power into.

  8. Considering how Grand Fisher's sword disappeared in the same way that his body broke down after being defeated, its safe to assume that the sword is indeed made out of the hollow's body thus supporting the answer.
