  1. I don't think saying you do something pre-emptively counts as offensive (like Blademail). If I raise my arms while boxing to block possible incoming jabs and punches, it is defensive.

I nevertheless get your point but the beginning was a little misleading when you just called it an offensive item. You narrowed it down later on.

I probably won't buy a blademail on my sniper or attributing it the same value as maelstrom.

I think it can be called a deterrend. Where with BKB you actually do no damage or CC (exceptions do exist), blademail is deterring people from applying damage while BKB is preventing certain effects and magic and reflected damage.

Good that you mentioned the passive exception of Blademail. I think many people don't read it carefully and expect it to be a lesser version of the active.

Thanks for the cool video. I really prefer the shorter version with examples and gameplay being shown.

  3. Low mmr player here I have a question, cant blademail be used to defend urself against breaks? In the case of something like BB when the enemy breaks you your going to take a lot of damage and returning can take someone down with you or stop them from attacking. Euls -> windwaker is better against breaks but dont give damage like blademail so blademail might be better in some games. Also you forgot to mention that blademail returns damage before reductions so you are often dealing more damage than ur taking, this further supports your argument for it as a damage item. Anyways am i missing something?

  4. understanding bkb and blademail is the most difficult part of dota to learn for the majority of players it feels like the barrier to having a competitive game ie if one player doesnt understand they unintentionally grief the game making there team almost lose

i've seen things like cores unble to kill a cm as they get frostbit deciding that instead of buying and activating a bkb to kill that cm to buy deso and basher and a million other situations where its one spell preventing a kill
or on the otherside a core activating a bkb and going and the supports waiting till it expires to do there thing

its basically the same for bm one is for damage the other for cc one is str and dmg other is armr and dmg stats

the worst thing is understanding the items and timings and getting placed in games with or agaisnt those who are unable to learn as they create difficult situatuions for there team and can become quite toxic. rather then learning the game they try to pick on a scapegoat . they play in bliss being able to pin there loss or 50 min+ game onto a scapegoat everyone else gets a headache. for anyone stuck in this situation just hit the mute button as soon as they identify themselves and focus on winning without them once you gain mmr you wont have as many players like that in your game

  5. Few more pointers: (1) Its a good item to counter those heroes which deal out-of-control damage (like lesh/Wr/Sk cant control who they deal damage to); blademail pop is very offenive against these heroes and forces them to opt for a bkb. (2) Its good against heroes who deal physical damage when they have a window to deal a lot of damage and they lose their effectiveness when that window expires (Like slark pounce/Pa blink buff/Marci Ulti); identify the window and pop blademail to close their window.

  6. Great video. Would be nice to understand how spell casters that deal damage via different mechanisms are affected by BM. If I understand correctly, targeted spells will affect the spellcaster (eg. Lion finger or Shaman Ether Shock), but spells that cause indirect damage such as Lich Chain Frost or Witch Doctor Death Ward do not affect the spellcaster. But I'm not 100% sure on these examples. Also yes I am a support player XD
