  7. LECTURE SUMMARY 🙂

    The Blessings and Rulings of Winter

    Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala mentions the diversity of creation, including the alternation of the night and day, and the differences between the seasons, as a sign of divine wisdom 00:56.

    The winter season is considered a blessing for believers, as it allows for easier fasting and prayer, with longer nights for tahajud and shorter days for fasting 02:54.

    The Prophet Muhammad sallallah alaihi wasallam mentioned that fasting during the winter months is one of the easiest ways to gain blessings and rewards 03:33.

    The Shar' (Islamic law) becomes easier when things become difficult, and there are rulings that pertain to the cold season of winter, including the encouragement to perform wudu (ablution) with cold water 06:42.

    The Prophet Muhammad sallallah alaihi wasallam incentivized believers to perform wudu during times of cold and difficulty, promising extra rewards for doing so 07:29.

    However, the Shar' does not ask believers to intentionally make life difficult, and it is not recommended to torture oneself for no reason 08:46.

    In extreme cold weather, Islamic law (Shar) allows for ease in certain rulings, such as not having to perform Ghusl (ritual bath) if it may cause harm, as seen in a story where a companion of the Prophet Muhammad had a wet dream on a freezing cold night and led his people in prayer without performing Ghusl first 10:43.

    The Prophet Muhammad gave a concession to the Sahabah (companions) to wipe over their socks for three days while traveling and one day while not traveling, as long as they had Wudu (ritual purity) when putting them on 12:12.

    In extremely cold weather, it is permissible to combine prayers or pray at home instead of going to the Masjid (mosque), as the Prophet Muhammad did on a cold night, saying "pray in your houses" 13:59.

    Scholars have allowed the "illusion of combining" prayers, where one prays a prayer just before its time is up and then prays the next prayer with the same Wudu, as long as they are monitoring the correct timing 16:39.

    Safety and Precautions in Winter

    The Prophet Muhammad cautioned people to take precautions during the winter season, such as turning off fires at night to avoid accidents, and this principle applies to taking reasonable precautions to protect oneself and one's family 18:10.

    Remembering the People of Sham

    Muslims should make dua for the people of Sham, including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine, who are finding liberation from tyranny and injustice 20:36.

    The Prophet Muhammad (sallallah alaihi wasallam) praised the people of Sham and said that iman will always go back there, and there will always be groups of people apparent upon the truth until the day of judgment 21:22.

    Preparing for the Unexpected

    Muslims should take advantage of the peace and security they are in to strengthen their relationship with Allah, and prepare for the unexpected by establishing a connection with Allah, understanding their faith, and making constant dua for protection and blessings 23:26.

  25. Shaikh, the hadith to wipe over socks is not about the normal socks, it is about khuffa that should be worn with many conditions as told be ulemas of all four school of thoughts…. Socks never meets that condition…
