Ok so House Of The Dragon Episode 8 is now out and the brand new entry is currently up in the Aunty like Jon Snow in Season 7. It’s a big family affair with the sides metaphorically burning down the house. Dracareys. There’s a lot to unpack from this one and throughout the video we’re gonna be recapping the plot, pointing out all the easter eggs and talking about how it differs from the book Fire and Blood. Now the entry combines several years from the timeline in order to tell it’s story. The two major events in it are the death of Vaemond which is later followed by King Viserys who sadly passes away at the end of the entry.
In the books the first of these happened in 126 AC with the latter happening 3 years later in 129. Therefore they’ve kinda combined several events into this hour long episode and according to the creative team this will be the last time jump in the series.
From here on out we will be travelling into the dance of the dragons which is described as being the far more elegant name for the civil war amongst the Targaryens. This was foreshadowed all the way back in episode 1 with this line from an elderly Rhaenyra.

Now the episode is titled Lord Of The Tides which is a title traditionally held by the heads of House Velaryon. The people who gain this instantly get the island of Driftmark along with the naval powers of Black Water Bay. This also typically grants them the position of Master Of Ships on the council and it’s a heavily saught after position.
Most of this episode centres around one single paragraph in the book that talks about Vaemond claiming to be lord of the tides and then getting beheaded before he’s fed to Syrax.

I watch your RoP videos too. You definitely project a different vibe, which I have noticed with myself (I watch it at a friend's house — I envy the way you keep your cool and successfully maintain an objective approach.) When something is good, it's easy to be positive and to find interesting talking points. When it's horrible, it is very difficult to find positive things to say and even more difficult not to keep pointing out the flaws. Congrats on doing such an excellent job covering both shows so well 🏆

Heleana coming into Aegons room disrupting he and Allicents conversation (we'll the queen is berating…). I feel like Helena knew what happened already but was testing her Mothers truth or something. She knew and asked at the most inappropriate time for them but the best time for her.🤔
Daemon never wanted the throne. He would have accepted it, of course, if his brother didn’t produce an heir. He was hurt when Viserys’ declared Rhaenyra heir, in order to deny Daemon the line of succession, because brothers are supposed to support each other. He wanted Viserys to trust and confide in him, he wanted to be his brother’s Hand. He wanted to help Viserys rule and be his balance. Viserys seem to always pay ear to the gossip of Otto, who was interested in causing a rift, between the brothers. That is what Daemon resented more than the possibility of being king.
I was so happy to see the fact that Daemon actually loves his brother, and it wasn't all about the throne. Remember in the beginning what he said about Otto as hand. I am now in agreement with Daemon that he wouldve been a better hand to viserys

While Vaemond no doubt loved his brother, I feel like Daemon has always had a deeper love for Viserys than he lets on. Obviously he is positioning for Rhaenyra's children's power (his nephew/sons?), but the way Matt Smith portrays him seems much more than that. I particularly like when he picked up the crown and put it back on Viserys's head. He didn't bow or give any deference to Vis as king. But rather helped try to restore a bit of dignity to the head of his family.
Speaking of "heads," there's a little of Vaemond's on your shoe.

ya I’m all for murdering someone that tells the truth about my wife/niece but everyone’s defense of murder was that Daemon holds the title of Kings Justice…….dat true? Come on now, y’all give Rhaenyra too much of a pass for “only doing her duty” which is ridiculous because she feels entitled to it and wants it, but she had a couple decades to maneuver herself into a solid position but her and HotDaemon showing up last minute to demand a dying man come and help cover for their procrastination?
