Hot Wheels 2 Jet Z (194) Four Horsemen Mars Crawler

On the bench today is a Hot Wheels casting called the 2 Jet Z. According to the Hot Wheels Fandom site, this is based on the real life 2 Jet Z which was entirely hand-built by Luis Rodriguez, and has been featured in many car shows, YouTube videos and automotive magazines. The car was based on an old Dwayne Vance design known as The Face Peeler. Interestingly, Vance is a current employee of Hot Wheels. The actual car (a play on words of the Toyota Supra’s 2JZ engine, featured in the original car), was the winner of the 2018 Hot Wheels Legends Tour.

This is my entry to the November Four Horsemen invitational. The theme is Mars Crawler.

Did you know that the actual Mars rover – The Perseverance – travelled 470 million kilometres at 79,000 kilometres per hour, for nearly eight months to reach its destination, landing near the Jezero Crater on February 18, 2021? The Perseverance is drilling for rock samples containing biosignatures, which are fossilised chemical and textural residues of life that can be found in sedimentary rocks. We’re hoping they can be returned to earth as soon as 2031.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.

  16. Love the personal decals, and how all the builds this month confirm I’m not crazy for keeping scraps and electronic parts. When my rough-and-tumble son breaks a toy and I can’t fix it, I always harvest the electronics.

    Candy wrapper, eh? Genius! What a great diorama, too.

    Never knew that about baking soda curing glue. Great tip!

  32. Very cool build Andrew! The gold foil really is a throwback to those in "our generation" because it seemed like all space vehicles had gold foil on them somewhere that caught our eye. When I see the Mod Podge come out, I always smile!

  42. Honestly, I'm not found of the 2 Jet Z in any other form other than its original livery. I did enjoy your build, however, as well as your Mars diorama. I would have been "hard-pressed" to figure out your starting casting had I not seen your video from the beginning. Thoroughly enjoyed it! BTW, If they do serve coffee on Mars isn't it truly out of this world 🌎?
