We started working on the lunging exercises assigned to us by the wonderful Julie from Duchy Equine Vets. I also finally had my hospital appointment, where I discovered what might have been causing my health issues.
Plus some very exciting news at the end 👀

Hi Tina I had a similar problem with my pony with those muscles. I had to lunge twice a day 3 times a week. 20 minutes a time. Also alternate with cavaletti 3x 2 meters apart. Once a week is not enough. Also I put on the bridle but put a headcollar on over it. Lunging from the headcollar is more horse friendly and you don't jerk in the mouth giving mixed signals. Also u can lunge in your field. I do. Although now I have a round pen with some sand in it. That works great in the winter. My boys always have access to the sand pit. So the exercise themselves in the winter. As the sand is salty itdoesnt freeze. It also gives a more solid bottom less muddy. Just a few tips. For the muscles and helping him use his core to propel those back legs. You could also teach him passage. Do it from the ground will also help him
Have hysterectomy then its over. I suffered for years. And u are more than likely this will turn cancerous after your menopause.
Tina it would help you massively if you had lessons in lunging its difficult to do correctly so maybe a dew lessons and you will have more confidence ❤❤
When you ask him to walk on to a new circle ask using your lunge whip and voice you whip iis your leg aid
Tina happy to hear you are ok i had a hysterectomy years ago keyhole surgery i have to say it the best thing i ever did my moods went away no bloating it bliss
Aww you cant do that i cant wait to see the next blog ekk a new member of your fury family ❤❤❤❤❤
Great first go!! I would get a longer lunge line, so you can have reserve line in your hand to send him out more or make the circle smaller, avoid holding onto the loop, as he could drag you along. Also I would rather see him with a roller on, an outside side rein, and put the lunge rein through his bit and run it to the roller, so it’s like a running rein. Then you have more control of his straightness and bend etc. lots more transitions, walk/trot..trot/walk, trot/canter and vice Versa. So good to see you looking well, and Banksy as well 🎉❤🦄
Ohhhh the SUSPENSE!!! 😭😜😂
I have to say you are getting more and more like my twin! The ulcers and bum work with Banksy and the ladies problems…. Good on you for sharing it all, because it is only helping me (and others!)
Good luck with the results, cannot wait for the next vlog!! 😍🤞🏼🐎❤️ xox
Hi Tina
Your lunging is really coming on, keep it up. I do it once a week with my girl and she loves it, no whip needed just voice commands she’s a legend. We all love your vet Lucy she is amazing such a lovely lady who I think has a soft spot for banksy. I hope you enjoyed your time at talland, I entered this year but sadly didn’t get through, fingers crossed for next year. I was offered a ablation but because I’ve got a c section scar from having my children they couldn’t do it, so I went on the cerazette mini pill and have been on that for 20 years, never looked back. The hysterectomy is a day procedure now they do it keyhole and your out the same day if no complications, so it’s worth thinking about and you will never have to worry about periods again, you get your life back. You little tease Tina, you can’t sit on a new pony and not show us , that’s not fair, hahaha looking forward to seeing your new baby soon, xx happy anniversary to you both. Hi susie, hope your well.x
Great to hear even the pros get stage fright! Also glad to hear you're getting answers re' your personal health! And was about to say that whinny at the end sounded female 😅 but then you said he was a good boy! Haha, super excited for you! x
Happy anniversary to you and Rob! Glad your procedure went well, I had a huge polyp removed "down there" at the end of May last year and was quite relieved that all was clear when it was sent away. Well done with the lungeing I think you did a great job for not doing it that often. If you find him falling in on the circle, a tip I had been told was to point the end of the lunge whip more toward his shoulder to encourage the shoulder to keep out and once the horse had moved out to return to the triangle shape of having the whip pointing towards his bum again. x
You did so well in my opinion! For me the biggest thing with lunging and long lining is different goals each time. It feels really boring to go in a circle twice a week. So I try to set a goal for bending (lots of bigger and smaller circles) and the next time I work on lifting legs (poles) or streching (long lining and using the complete arena and work on extention and collection on a strait line too). Just like you do with ridden work…
Greetings from Germany😊
Great to see him feeling much better! What helps me in lunging and being clear in communication to my horse is relaxing the front hand down a bit and staying behind his girth line when he has to keep going forward and then dropping the whip hand and stepping a bit in front of the girth line to slow down. I saw it mentioned in other comments as well, but I also prefer to hold the lunge as a rein and keep the other (big) loops in my whip hand. I will say, the way you follow and step your feet along while lunging is very good naturally!
Lunging is REALLY hard to learn! We've only done it ourselves a couple of times and it's a lot. It sounds like you've gotten some really helpful advice in the comments. The one thing we noticed is just how big and irregular your own circles got, which seems like it kept Banksy from staying on a track. If that was not intentional, along with a longer lunge line you might fight it helpful to draw your own circle in the sand with a foot, or give yourself a cone to work around so you can keep your movement smaller. That's the thing we struggle most with and our instructor gives us a guide for how small of space we should be in. It's a lot smaller and less movement than you think for yourself! She always tells us to move your shoulder, not your entire body!
Happy Anniversary to you both ❤
I was a huge fan of the old lunging myself. I think you did really well. I was alway told a raised tail was a sign the hind quarters were working. You can also use side reins with saddle and different heights use different muscles plus the pessoa which I believe Meg also uses are quite good.
I also had the coil for my bleeding plus other lady problems and it helped loads so fingers crossed! Now I’m enjoying ( NOT) the menopause ❤
Hey loverly hope your feeling better now, thanks for sharing your journey with us it's much appreciated loverly love banksy give him a hug for me hugs loverly ❤x
T, if it makes you feel less silly about “planning ahead” – I’ve been worrying myself and thinking about ✨that day✨ ever since my girly turned 13.
She’s 27 now and thiriving!
(I do get what you mean though, about wanting to have a familiar face there when you make that call. I feel like it would make you a little bit more at ease if the person doing it is someone who you know and trust – as a person – not just as a professional).
Sending you big hugs, and I hope that day isn’t for a very long time – for either of us.
I had an ablation it changed my life ❤
Just do the same thing on both sides, Tina. That's all you have to remember to do. What you do with Banksey going to the right must be done the same amount of times going to the left. To stop getting dizzy. Walk!! Make the circles bigger. With you walking around, you won't get dizzy by staying in one place. Just a suggestion for you. When I lunge any horse, I'm always walking around with them. It also puts less stress on their joints when you do this. Once a week to start is a great idea, but after talking to the Vet, you might need to increase it to twice a week. But follow the advice of your Vet. Good luck 🍀🤞 Tina with your health and excited to meet your new 🐴 boy. 💜
He looked really good! One of the horses I lease, he's 20, 21 years old and ever since I started lunging him last year, I found it's really benefited him. His muscles are looser and it makes other work a lot easier on him. Your on your way to another success!
Lunging definitely gets easier with practice! I always found it really useful to watch someone more experienced lunge also. Very exciting news about the new horse, looking forward to the videos! Also just an fyi the GU desserts are not vegetarian.. we got them and had to give them away as unfortunately they have beef gelatine in them 😒
I love you sharing your journey with Banksy. I've also learned a bit. Because of your influence, I decided my 14 yr old Gelding, "Rainbow" needed a vet check and vaccines. He is mostly a back yard horse mostly. We do some play days when we can. He was showing some of the same things you were seeing in Banksy. We had a great and positive Vet appointment this morning. have an easy treatment plan including weight and muscle gain.I can handle that!! Thanks for helping us be brave.
