Hong Kong's COVID outbreak worsens ‘cage home’ dwellers' suffering

Hong Kong’s poor have long been unable to afford decent living spaces.
During a recent visit to Hong Kong, Chinese President Xi Jinping appeared to acknowledge the territory’s lack of affordable public housing, urging its new leader to make the issue a priority.
The Hong Kong government has pledged to build more than 300,000 homes in the next decade, something many residents say should have happened a long time ago.
Now, a new outbreak of COVID-19 is exposing that inequality.

  1. Major cities are designed to suck value out of the lowest part of the pyramid and throw it to the top. I would much rather live on a farm and not even bother with money.

  2. There're lands for new housing, but some people don't like it. They want the project to be halt, they want the resource to be tight, and they want the price to be high. In the past the HK Gov were facing pressures from these capitalist. Hope the situation can be changed.

  3. “Oggi capisco perché la mia generazione è vista come patetici vecchi che non sanno niente. Musei senza importanza e parola. L'eterno meccanismo di valorizzazione dei giovani per ragioni elettorali.
Per la giovane di oggi, siamo nati vecchi. Niente professioni, niente lezioni apprese negli anni, niente. Solo vecchio. Un museo che zoppica, pieno di dolore. E così si mantiene l'ignoranza.” From Adriana Leal, daughter of a polemic investigative journalist Manuel Leal, Itabuna-Brazil
Btw,why BBC news and my comment doesn’t appear on YouTube library?
Who owns all countries? Unbelievable. That is why I like Putin and my idol Prince Salman.

  4. Putting people in a cage? Nothing says dehumanizing of humanity like treating people like animals. This is morally mentally degrading. What crime did you commit in hong kong to be put in a cage? We were poor…better to live on the street than to locked away in a cage. At least you can see the sky and breathe fresh are. That would be more human than packed away and put into a dog cage. Never let your government treat you like a dog.

  5. I'm actually rather impressed that in spite these squalid overly packed living conditions, they held out on covid cases for far longer than America. Even then when it happened, it was quickly quelled, and deaths are barely anything compared to America too!
