The Honda City Hybrid makes a big leap for hybrid cars in the Indian market. Aside from offering a similar space and practicality package as the regular Honda City, it gets a powertrain that can deliver truly phenomenal fuel-efficiency. However, we had to see just how much the City Hybrid could deliver on a full tank, compared to other efficiency championing technologies β diesel and cylinder-deactivation.
The Honda City diesel represents the good old-fashioned way of maximizing mileage while the Volkwagen Virtus DSG represents a way to get the best of efficiency as well as performance and excitement. To see how they stack up against each other in the real world, Alan, Arun and Tushar took these cars on a two-day long road-trip, driving through unforgiving city traffic, open highways and interstate roads clogged with fluctuating traffic. This is the definitive tank range test, including every possible kind of driving, to answer just one question β who survives the longest in the drive to death?

Fun fact: The Honda City diesel goes limp mode after a range 0km restart and wonβt rev past ~1,000rpm
EDIT: Fuel-efficiency data as per Zigwheels' standardized real-world test (city/highway):
Honda City Diesel: 15.32kmpl/21kmpl
Honda City Hybrid: 20.15kmpl/23.38kmpl
VW Virtus DSG: 12.12.kmpl/19kmpl
As Alan stated in the video, the hybrid delivers its best highway efficiency with consistent/steady drive conditions but is sensitive to fluctuating traffic wherein EV mode can't engage as often/easily. The constant highway filtering that we had to do on NH8 is what ate into the City Hybrid's efficiency.
you guys should have done pune to Bangalore road. but loved the diesel even in that bad traffic of Mumbai. fan of diesel, still proves to beat all master of technology.
Loved the content …Please make more such videos.
Pls do such a video for Honda city petrol also
Good one. Why isnβt a Verna in the context.
Like really with 2 people you got only 850 km range with 50 litres i have got 1000 km with my skoda rapid diesel with 4 people with big size bags in summer.. that too i was around 100 kph.. and my car is 2015 model.. with 30% city and 70% highway
Even with that less range i will choose VW anyday but "A diesel is a diesel is a diesel is a diesel"
#Faisbeam
It would be more better to have Verna Diesel manual or automatic instead of Honda City Diesel for this test
just got a hybrid what a beautiful car. That power is all you need in the city.
Cost per KM would also be a good measure!
My skoda rapid 1.6 tdi can do 1200kms ππ
Hats off to the hardwork
Great Comparison, the tank of each car capacity differs, and filling the tank to the brim for the exact mileage ? . Hope the tank should have been filled till the Auto cut off and refilled again for the exact mileage. Enjoyed the way Diesel took over against all.
if u get good you can drive the city 5th gen petrol at 20kmpl easy
Diesel wins… Diesel rules…
guys fuel tank capacity of virtus is 5 lt more than honda , so not that fuel efficient, 1000 rs more than city deisel
I have a Jazz Diseal & trust me it covers range of more than 900 kms in a single tank on highways, done that several times, my Jazz Diseal consitantly delivers more than 25 km/ltr with always AC running….
Pls do this test with a Jazz Diseal, i asure u that Jazz will WIN π― againt any any compitator
A fun fact – 1.5TSI giving over 720km compared to the citys', i would prefer it any day.
Nice one guys….bravo really great infoππ»
Next vlog of drive to last drop of charge comparison with EV – Tata Nexon prime and MG ZS EV + Honda city hybrid car
Request to tell the route in start along with amount of charge of full car with fuel tank up cost of single fill. Toll tax to mention if we decide to replicate your feat again
Bro…Really impressed β€οΈ Subscribed π
Diesel are best for efficency . i use 1.3 DDIS and VW 1.5 TDI. Full Tank Range is more than 850 kms on both. along with higher torque figures.
An applauds for efforts of you guys…π Driving almost 900kms for a video is really impressive…π Thanks for informative content…π
Loved this review that is done with so much hard work. This could have become even more better if you could have got Honda CVT automatic diesel and not a manual. Manual always does have a advantage.
Thanks for the efforts guys , you just broke the myth hybrids are economical then diesels , diesel city is 16lakhs where as hybrid city is 24 lakhs absolutely makes no sense ππ
Is it legal to shoot on the worli sea link?
Amazing work team π
Absolutely loved this π―π―
