Hype trailer for an upcoming documentary made in partnership with PC Gamer looking at the development of Homeworld 3. The documentary contains behind the scenes interviews with the development team. The full documentary will be available in December.

Homeworld 3 will explore an all-new story in the Homeworld universe. Imogen S’Jet, a scientist and Karan S’Jet’s successor, must become Fleet Command to help solve the mystery behind The Anomaly, a threat which endangers the galaxy’s future.

Homeworld 3 is an immersive cinematic experience that takes the series’ iconic 3D RTS gameplay to the next level with innovative features like cover-based tactics and physics-based ballistics simulation making space combat feel more dynamic than ever.

Players can also enjoy the robust competitive multiplayer Skirmish mode or recruit comrades to fight together in War Games, a new cooperative mode which fuses Homeworld’s strategic gameplay with roguelike challenge and progression.

  1. Hi @BBI! Everything is fine, but the interface worries me. It's just horribly overloaded UI, sometimes copy of Desert of Kharak, what by fact is a flat strategy game, this is not 3D game! For the selection of the ship in 3D, only one health bar is enough, why else do you need flat circles and white squares!? For 20 years we lived without additional UI, now they are not needed either. The player screen is replete with things that are simply not necessary for gameplay, things that overlap what is happening, overlap the beauty of space. All this garbage – flat circles + additional squares when selecting ships, information buttons, feedback lines, tactical overlays, buttons with inscriptions of commands, with 7 buttons names at the top of the screen, a 3D map in the bottom center, ship costs that go beyond the build menu etc. All this simply create a chaotic effect and interferes with watching the gameplay. Please make it possible to switch to a minimalistic interface, giving the player the most blank screen possible using switching by Tab button, as it was in Homeworld 2 Classic.

  2. I hope you wont mess the game up like relic did with their CoH franchise.
But all those delays are a somewhat good sign πŸ˜‰
i imagine, that the cover stuff and the camera will be hell to control, even for a veteran RTS/Homeworld player. You literally need to fly into the tunnels with the camera to use them.

  3. I had a chance to meet Rob and the team a few years back while vacationing in Vancouver. Nice bunch of guys. I've been a Homeworld fan since the first game in '99 so it's really exciting to finally be getting Homeworld 3 after all these years!

  4. One game play option I would LOVE TO SEE is a way to increase ALL HITPOINTS for ALL VEHICLES by 5/10/15/20% etc.

The reason? I want to watch a battle that doesnt require me to constantly change views because my ships get shredded in 0.07 seconds. I want to enjoy the scenes for awhile.

  5. Personally hoping that the battles I saw in the demos which showed 'dead' ships that seemed to engage in this sort of 'drifting' state aren't going to move like weightless blocks.. After some of the vehicle destruction some of those ships seemed to careen and flit about in their new 'husk' forms, like they weren't just massive bulky ships a few second beforehand. I'm hoping that isn't present because that would really break a level of immersion in the combat.

  6. There is so much talk about megaliths and the environment, but why the hell is it static in any video, even asteroids froze as in a freeze frame? For a space environment, this looks silly, because in zero gravity any object should have a slow rotation.

  7. Homeworld 1 was pure magic. A Big Bang in PC game history.

How they managed to make such a perfect first game, which resonating sound ripples are still detectable to this day, is a mystery, like the Big Bang itself.

I still remember playing the demo, which was released a day before the game came out and being blown away. The next day rushed to my local PC game store and was amazed even more. Not at least, by the spectacular 'art book' they called 'game manual' back then. I still play the original game all year, every year, on occasion. No other RTS managed to hit the 'SciFi' nerve that way AND managed to create a full 360deg RTS that is fun to play. It is also STILL technically impressive! You may find some tech-talks on Gamasutra/GDC Vault.

I was very skeptical, when Gearbox snatched the IP away from BBI at the THQ auction. But, it seems, "All's well, ends well"? The extended HW3 production time and multiple delays were a 'good sign' if you are a HW fan. It meant, they were given the time to 'make it right'.
